Abstract

The lack of facilities and activities supporting literacy poses a significant challenge in many communities, particularly in suburban urban environments. This community service program aimed to revitalize a reading house in Kampung Jati Baru, Benda Village, as a comprehensive strategy to increase reading interest and community participation in literacy activities. The implementation method involved three main stages: observation and community needs mapping; improvement of reading house infrastructure (including a reading park and public restrooms) and environmental greening; and enhancement of book collections followed by joint reading activities and training. The program successfully revitalized the reading house and established supporting facilities, creating a comfortable, child-friendly, and accessible learning space. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in the number of children visiting the reading house, greater parental participation in reading house activities, and increased utilization of the reading house as a community learning and discussion space. This revitalization proved effective in empowering the community through enhanced literacy.

Abstract

Stunting remains a global problem with detrimental effects on children's growth and development. Specifically, Mujur Village has three toddlers suffering from malnutrition. However, health cadres of PRA Mujur still lack adequate knowledge and skills in handling stunting, particularly concerning complementary feeding (MP-ASI). The method employed was providing education to the cadres, in the form of material presentation, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and video screenings. The results of the activity revealed an increase in knowledge after the education regarding food security and complementary feeding from 80.9 to 96.9. This had an impact on improving skills in preparing complementary feeding. Thus, this program is expected to reduce the stunting rate in Mujur Village to zero.

Abstract

Addressing stunting necessitates an enhanced role for the community, particularly pregnant women and mothers of toddlers, alongside improved skills for cadres in the early detection of toddlers' nutritional status. This community engagement initiative aimed to increase cadres' knowledge of early stunting detection and toddler growth monitoring, as well as to improve mothers' knowledge of stunting prevention. The target participants were pregnant women, mothers of toddlers, and cadres. The activities involved 170 mothers of toddlers, 12 pregnant women, and 15 cadres, and were conducted through interactive education using smart card stunting cards and question-and-answer sessions with pregnant women and mothers of toddlers, as well as anthropometric measurement training for posyandu cadres. Evaluation results demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge among mothers of toddlers (from 66.5% in the moderate category to 93.5% in the good category) and pregnant women (from 66.7% in the moderate category to 100% in the good category) following the stunting education. Furthermore, cadres' skills also improved, with 93.3% of cadres becoming proficient in performing anthropometric measurements.

Abstract

Developmental delays in under-five children are a global concern, with a prevalence of approximately 10% worldwide. In Central Sulawesi, the coverage of Early Stimulation, Detection, and Intervention for Growth and Development (SDIDTK) in toddlers remains low at 44.6%. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres and mothers in Pinedapa Village in monitoring under-five children's development. The methods employed were education and simulation on monitoring child development. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge; 80% of participants previously had poor knowledge, which increased to 100% having good knowledge post-education. Similarly, there was an improvement in participants' skills in monitoring under-five children's development after the simulation. This demonstrates the effectiveness of education and simulation in strengthening the capacity of partners, particularly concerning the monitoring of under-five children's development.

Abstract

Adolescents at SMP Muhdasa Yogyakarta face limited access to continuous reproductive health education due to the lack of a structured platform such as the Adolescent Reproductive Health Information and Counseling Center (PIK-R). Therefore, this community service activity aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in reproductive health and to foster an environment that supports the development of quality adolescents. The program was implemented through a participatory approach focusing on initiating the establishment of a PIK-R based on the principle of “from, by, and for adolescents.” This included comprehensive education and training for prospective peer educators. Evaluation results demonstrated a significant increase in students’ knowledge regarding PIK-R and the role of peer educators, with the percentage of students possessing very good knowledge increasing from 8.43% to 12.05% after the intervention. These findings indicate that health education is effective in improving student understanding and has the potential to form groups capable of addressing adolescent reproductive health issues, creating a positive environment that supports proactive attitudes, and preventing risky sexual behaviors among adolescents at SMP Muhdasa.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy skills are crucial for solving everyday mathematical problems. However, at SD Muhammadiyah Pangkal Pinang, students' numeracy literacy skills are still relatively low. This condition is exacerbated by the absence of a dedicated numeracy literacy learning center and the limited skills of teachers in designing and developing such resources. This community service (PkM) activity aimed to introduce a numeracy literacy corner to teachers as an initial step towards establishing a more comprehensive learning center. The implementation method for this PkM included three stages of socialization: pre-activity, concept introduction, and evaluation. The results showed that teachers gave positive feedback on the numeracy literacy corner, considering it more engaging than conventional reading corners. It is hoped that this initiative can serve as a foundation for the optimal realization of a numeracy literacy learning center in the classroom in the future.
