Abstract

Early detection of stunting is crucial to optimize the role of posyandu cadres in comprehensive stunting prevention, including anthropometric measurements, result interpretation, documentation, and education for parents. The problem in Randusari Village is the low level of knowledge among cadres regarding early detection of stunting, especially related to accurate height measurement and providing education on fulfilling toddler nutrition. This community service aimed to improve the capacity of posyandu cadres in Randusari Village through structured training. The methods used in this activity were lectures, discussions, role-playing, and evaluation. The results of the training showed a significant increase in cadres' understanding of early detection of stunting and IEC skills. This training successfully improved the cadres' ability to participate in stunting prevention and reduction efforts in Randusari Village. Furthermore, the cadres were facilitated with educational media in the form of food models and “Cegah Stunting” booklets to facilitate the dissemination of the stunting reduction acceleration program in Boyolali Regency.

Abstract

Environmental awareness is essential for the conservation of biodiversity, particularly in regions rich in endemic and flagship species, such as Bangka Island. The Community Service (CS) program aimed to enhance environmental awareness among young adults in Riding Panjang Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, through education on recognizing and conserving Bangka Island’s flagship and endemic species. This CS program, conducted on August 10th, 2024, included 25 participants aged 18-29 and involved three phases: pretest, education, and posttest. The pretest results revealed that participants had limited prior knowledge, with an average score of 56 points. The educational phase utilized interactive presentations to increase understanding of the species' ecological roles and conservation needs. Following the education, the posttest showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with an average score of 86 points, marking a 30-point increase. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of structured educational programs in raising awareness and engagement in biodiversity conservation. The results underscore the importance of conservation education, particularly for emerging adults who are more open to new ideas and prepared to adopt social and environmental responsibilities. This CS program successfully increased participants' understanding and motivation to support conservation efforts for Bangka Island’s unique species.

Abstract

Blubuk Hamlet, Kulon Progo is a rural area with great potential in agriculture and ecotourism. However, the community faces challenges in maximizing this potential due to limited knowledge. This community service program aims to empower the local community through waste utilization to have economic value. The program uses various methods, including training, participatory mapping, and focus group discussions (FGDs). The main activities include maggot cultivation for fish feed production, biodiesel production from used cooking oil, eco-enzyme production from organic waste, and ecotourism planning. The results showed that 80% of training participants successfully understood maggot cultivation techniques, collectively produced 3 kg of maggots, and produced 1 kg of fish pellets in two months. Eco-enzyme production from household organic waste reduced waste by 40%, with 85% of participants using the product as a natural cleaner and fertilizer. Biodiesel production produced 2 liters of biodiesel from 5 liters of used cooking oil, which was tested and used as an alternative fuel. This program successfully introduced the concept of community-based ecotourism management and increased public understanding of the economic potential that can be developed from local natural resources.

Abstract

Household waste production, especially organic waste from yards and kitchens, often accumulates, causing disturbances to the surrounding environment. Organic waste can be processed in several ways, such as being processed into compost, eco-enzymes, fish feed pellets, and so on. One of the objectives of this community service program is to enhance community skills in processing yard and kitchen waste into various useful products. Organic waste from household kitchens, such as leftover vegetables and fruit peels, is processed into compost and eco-enzymes, thus reducing the waste burden on the environment. The conclusion obtained is that with the training on organic waste processing, community skills have improved and organic waste that is usually disposed of in the trash can be processed into various more beneficial products.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant problem in Indonesia, but early detection can prevent many cases. Regular monitoring of toddlers' growth and development is crucial. However, a common challenge is the lack of competency among community health workers (cadres) in performing this monitoring. This community service aimed to train posyandu cadres in monitoring children's growth and development using a hands-on, learning-by-doing approach. Training involved lectures, discussions, and practical application of anthropometric methods to assess nutritional status. Results showed a statistically significant increase in average knowledge scores from 64.52 ± 12.86 SD to 71.94 ± 16.00 SD. Despite this improvement, some cadres still require further training. This community service demonstrates that training can effectively increase posyandu cadres' knowledge of children's growth and development.

Abstract

Tegal Regency continues to grapple with discrimination and stigma against people with disabilities, leading to insufficient social support, low self-confidence, and communication barriers. This limited communication hinders their social independence. This activity aimed to enhance self-confidence, public speaking skills, and social independence among members of Difabel Mandiri Slawi (DMS). The program comprised three stages: (1) An initial Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with DMS in July 2024 to assess needs; (2) Motivational seminars and public speaking workshops (incorporating theory and practice); and (3) Co-creation activities, including public speaking practice at Alun-Alun Slawi. The program successfully increased participants' self-confidence by 47% and their public speaking skills by 50%, positively impacting their social independence as evidenced by improved social relationships.

Abstract

Cocoa is an important agricultural commodity for the economy of farmers in Central Sulawesi, especially in Poso Regency. However, cocoa farming faces challenges such as low farmer competence and less-than-optimal management, particularly in its integration with livestock. Therefore, the development of environmentally friendly agricultural techniques is needed to increase cocoa production and enhance food security. The purpose of implementing the Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) program was to improve farmers' knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding the processing of cocoa pod waste into animal feed. This participatory program focused on developing farmer resources by utilizing local potential within the Tomata Ndeme Farmer Group in Sepe Village, Lage District, Poso Regency. Results showed a significant increase in farmers' management abilities, with knowledge scores rising from 63.5 to 80.3, attitudes from 53.3 to 70.4, and skills from 24.1 to 67.6. The previously worthless cocoa pod waste is now being used as cattle feed.
