Abstract

Corncob waste in Naramben Village is traditionally underutilized and frequently subjected to open burning, leading to air pollution and localized environmental degradation. This program introduces simple pyrolysis technology to equip local residents with the practical skills needed to transform this agricultural waste into value-added commodities: liquid smoke and biochar. Executed through a participatory framework, the initiative combined strategic preparation, hands-on production workshops, and educational dissemination. The program drove a substantial shift in community renewable energy literacy, with participants successfully adopting liquid smoke as an organic pesticide and natural fish preservative. From a technical standpoint, utilizing a 50-liter drum-type pyrolyzer over a two-hour cycle consistently yielded 1.5 to 2 liters of liquid smoke and 5 kg of biochar per batch. Evaluations confirmed that the direct demonstration approach effectively fostered operational independence among the villagers. Ultimately, this localized waste-to-energy model mitigates open-burning pollution, unlocks new micro-economic avenues, and advances clean energy resilience.

Abstract

Preeclampsia remains a primary driver of maternal mortality in Indonesia, highlighting the urgency of addressing maternal nutritional status as a critical, modifiable risk factor through targeted community programs. This community service aims to elevate pregnant women's literacy regarding balanced prenatal nutrition for preeclampsia prevention while mapping their baseline nutritional profiles and risk factors. The program integrated comprehensive health screenings (anthropometric and blood pressure measurements, and medical history assessments) with interactive video screenings and hands-on cooking demonstrations featuring local fish resources. Clinical screenings revealed a high prevalence of metabolic risks: 40% of participants were obese and 35% presented with anemia. A remarkably strong positive correlation was observed between BMI and MUAC (r=0.788; p<0.001). Post-intervention assessments demonstrated a substantial surge in nutritional knowledge, most notably regarding calcium requirements (131.6%) and protein needs (104.8%). Ultimately, combining visual education with experiential cooking workshops serves as an effective, highly practical strategy to improve maternal nutritional literacy and reinforce preeclampsia prevention frameworks at primary healthcare levels.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires a paradigm shift from surface learning to deep learning. This community service program aims to enhance Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers' pedagogical competence in designing Deep Learning-based instruction aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile. Utilizing a participatory approach, the program included pedagogical training, coaching clinics, and reflective classroom mentoring. Program effectiveness was measured through self-efficacy pre-tests and post-tests, classroom observations, and lesson plan analysis. Results indicated a significant increase in teacher self-efficacy, with mean scores rising from 3.01 to 3.96 (a 31.5% increase; p < 0.01). The highest specific gains were recorded in the ability to use inquiry-based open questions (41.0%) and critical project design (38.6%). Qualitatively, a transformation in teaching practices was observed, characterized by the use of relevant local contexts, explicit communication of learning goals, and consistent scaffolding of critical reasoning. These findings confirm that reflective practice-based mentoring effectively drives a measurable and sustainable transition toward deep learning pedagogy in ECE settings.

Abstract

The "Rejoarum" Women Farmer Group (KWT) in Pandowoharjo, Sleman, has successfully diversified their local California papaya harvest into three distinct value-added products: Payachips (papaya chips), Papaku (papaya seed coffee substitute), and Noripaya (papaya leaf savory seasoning). Despite these innovations, the group faces significant bottlenecks in product commercialization and market penetration. This community service initiative aims to resolve these downstream challenges by delivering targeted training in advanced food packaging and strategic marketing. The program was executed through a structured framework involving program socialization, hands-on packaging workshops, and strategic business formulation using the Business Model Canvas (BMC). The intervention yielded substantial capacity growth, with participants' understanding soaring to a post-test range of 37%–100%, a marked improvement from the baseline pre-test range of 10%–90%. Tailored marketing frameworks were also established for each product variant based on distinct consumer segments. Ultimately, this training has equipped KWT Rejoarum with the vital entrepreneurial skills and insights necessary to optimize post-harvest management and sustain resilient, independent production cycles.

Abstract

Public speaking education in high schools often lacks contextual relevance, missing opportunities to connect communication skills with cultural heritage. This community service initiative addresses this gap by enhancing the public speaking competence of SMAN students in South Sumatra, embedding local wisdom as a rich rhetorical foundation to foster regional cultural preservation. The program deployed an educational-participatory framework that integrated interactive training, project-based learning, and hybrid mentoring (blended learning). The intervention yielded a substantial transformation in students' oratorical proficiency, with mean performance scores shifting from a baseline of 2.07 on the pretest to 3.59 on the posttest. The most pronounced advancements were observed in students' ability to weave local pantun (traditional poetry) and proverbs into their speeches, maintain cultural relevance, practice linguistic politeness, and use authentic South Sumatran honorifics. Beyond sharpening technical delivery, the program significantly bolstered students' confidence, deepened their cultural identity, and enabled them to leverage digital media for culturally grounded communication. Ultimately, this culturally responsive public speaking model serves as a highly effective, scalable, and sustainable tool for contemporary communication literacy.

Abstract

Coffee farming is a major source of livelihood for rural communities, but its sustainability is threatened by weak managerial capacity, low technology adoption, and landslide risks. This community service activity aims to strengthen the economic independence of the “Bangun Semi” Coffee Farmer Group in Donorejo Village, Purworejo. The program was implemented using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach through the stages of socialization, training, technology application, mentoring, and evaluation. Interventions included digital bookkeeping training, strengthening the branding and digital marketing of Kopi Semi, installing a solar-powered coffee roasting machine, utilizing coffee husk waste into fermented animal feed, and implementing a Landslide Early Warning System (LEWS). The results showed an increase in business capacity and partner resilience. The selling price of coffee increased by more than 120%, roasting productivity rose from 2 kg/day to 12 kg/day, and energy costs decreased by up to 88%. In addition, the utilization of coffee husk waste reduced feed costs by up to 20%, while LEWS strengthened early warning and community preparedness. This integrated model is effective in strengthening a resilient local economic independence and has the potential to be replicated in other disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Traditional learning methods often face difficulties in concretizing the abstract relationship between sounds and letters. This community service program addresses an important challenge in teaching foundational phonic decoding skills to early childhood learners at SD Angkasa 01 Halim Perdanakusuma. The purpose of this activity is to design, implement, and evaluate the impact of "Flipbook Magic," an interactive tactile medium, on students' decoding abilities and teachers' pedagogical competence. The methodology used follows a four-stage collaborative model, which includes needs analysis, collaborative medium creation process with teachers, direct implementation in grade II through co-teaching sessions, and evaluation with mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative). The results from the structured observation checklist showed a significant increase in students' decoding skills. The percentage of students able to blend CVC patterns independently increased from 20% to 80%, while 40% of students successfully blended target CVCC/CCVC patterns independently and another 40% succeeded with teacher assistance. Qualitatively, the use of this medium significantly increased student engagement and participation in learning. In addition, the applied mentoring model successfully empowered teachers, with more than 90% of teachers showing the ability to use the medium independently and integrate it into lesson plans. The program concludes that Flipbook Magic, combined with a partnership-based empowerment approach, is an effective strategy to improve early literacy learning. Therefore, schools are advised to adopt similar practice-based learning tools and collaborative professional development models to maintain sustainability and expand the improvement of phonics education.
