Abstract

Writing hijaiah letters is one of the fundamental skills in learning the Arabic language. This research aims to identify the difficulties in writing Arabic letters, which act as obstacles to Arabic language learning. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach. Interviews and tests are the data collection techniques used in this research. The data analysis technique in this study follows the views of Milles and Huberman, where the first stage involves data reduction, followed by grouping and detailed re-description of the data, and the final stage involves data analysis. The sample used in this research consists of second-grade students from SDIT Al-Amin, West Bandung. The findings from the conducted research reveal that the second-grade students at SDIT Al-Amin can already write Arabic letters proficiently. However, some students still face challenges in writing Arabic letters, such as incorrect sequencing of letters, reversed writing layout, connecting Arabic letters into a single word, and transferring Latin script into Arabic letters. In this regard, students require more intensive guidance.

The Al-Mufied Dictionary is a modern Indonesian-Arabic dictionary widely utilized by learners of Arabic in Indonesia, particularly beginners. This dictionary not only provides vocabulary but also includes example sentences and phrases that learners can apply in context. This study aims to examine the methods employed by Nur Mufid in compiling the Al-Mufied Dictionary and to evaluate its strengths and weaknesses. A qualitative library research method was adopted, with data collected through documentation that explains the dictionary's structure and development methodology. The analysis involved reviewing relevant literature to explore the background and contributions of key figures and dictionaries within this domain. The findings reveal that the dictionary employs a root-based morphological approach and is organized alphabetically in Indonesian. In conclusion, the Al-Mufied Dictionary is highly suitable for Indonesian students due to its alphabetical arrangement in Indonesian and the inclusion of example phrases that facilitate comprehension.

Abstract

Al-Mu'allaqāt is the most famous Arabic poem of the pre-Islamic period. Al-Mu'allaqat often uses flirting as one of its themes, and Umru’ul-Qays' al-Mu'allaqat is no exception. It is addressed to his lover, Unaizah. It is often regarded as an expression of the poet's love for his beloved, but like any other poem, the flirtation stanzas in Umru'ul-Qays' al-Mu'allaqat also expresses meaning in the indirect ways. The purpose of this study is to determine the meaning of Umru'ul-Qays' flirtation stanzas in Al-Mu'allaqat. This research applies Michael Riffaterre's semiotic theory and implements his methods, such as heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, searching for matrix, model, variant, and hypogram. The data source is the flirtation stanzas to Unaizah in the poetry Al-Mu'allaqāt by Umru’ul-Qays. This research is to understand the meaning and social context of Arabic literary works, as well as to dissect the variations of the sayings used by Umru'ul-Qays for Unaizah, which reflect the unrequited love between the two.  The results of this research are that the flirtation stanzas in Al-Muallaqat by Umru’ul-Qays also expresses meaning in an indirect way. This poem also describes Umru'ul Qays' deep love even though he was rejected many times.

Abstract

The acquisition of Arabic language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—depends heavily on vocabulary mastery. At MI Nurussalam Mantingan Ngawi, a lecture-centered teaching approach has resulted in low vocabulary proficiency among students. To address this issue, this study investigates the effectiveness of Wordwall media in enhancing vocabulary learning outcomes for 5th-grade students. A quantitative experimental method employing a true experimental design with a post-test-only control group was utilized. Data were collected through tests and documentation, and analysis involved t-tests with homogeneity and normality tests. The findings reveal that Wordwall media significantly improves vocabulary learning outcomes, as indicated by a t-count of 2.994, exceeding the critical values at both the 5% (2.021) and 1% (2.704) significance levels. Consequently, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This study concludes that Wordwall media is an effective instructional tool for improving Arabic vocabulary mastery and recommends its integration into Arabic language teaching practices.

Abstract

Proverbs that employ metaphors are deeply rooted in the social and cultural life of a society, often drawing from animals and plants. These proverbs reflect the characteristics and identity of a community while delivering messages in an easily understandable manner. This study examines the metaphor of the "dog" in Egyptian proverbs, employing a semantic cognitive and conceptual metaphor approach. The study focuses on the forms of the dog metaphor and its representation in Egyptian Arabic proverbs. A descriptive qualitative research method was used, with data collected using the SBLC method. The data were analyzed through the referential matching method. The study found 11 proverbs that use the word "dog" as a metaphor. The conceptualization of the dog metaphor is predominantly based on the dog's state, drawing on the relationship between humans and dogs as an analogy for human characteristics or conditions. The use of "dog" as a metaphor in these proverbs represents various human traits, including both good and bad characteristics, excessive talkers, lost individuals, as well as communities (civil and governmental) and individual traits.

Abstract

Arabic language learning at the elementary level is crucial for understanding Islamic values and developing general language skills. Evaluation plays a key role in ensuring effective teaching and learning, especially with the increasing diversity of assessment methods. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Arabic language evaluation at SDIT Insan Mulia Pekalongan, focusing primarily on test evaluation techniques. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving interviews, observations, and documentation. The results indicate that evaluations are systematically conducted through various types of tests, including Daily Summative Tests (SH) and End-of-Semester Summative Assessments (ASAS), which assess students' abilities in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, oral assessments and memorization practices using songs are implemented to provide constructive feedback. This study also identifies that the use of Item Response Theory (IRT) and Classical Test Theory (CTT) in evaluations can offer a more comprehensive understanding of students' abilities. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of more effective teaching strategies and improve the quality of Arabic language learning at the primary school level.

Abstract

This paper aims to demonstrate the integrative relationship between the science of stopping and starting in the Holy Quran, and the levels of linguistic study (phonetic, phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic). We chose to study the relationship between; the phonetic component, through some phonetic phenomena generated by stopping and starting, such as inclination, vibration, deletion, and addition, and the syntactic component that deals with the distribution and arrangement of words in sentences. Also, the relationship that connects them to give them semantic significance considering the representational relationships between words. We demonstrated this through an applied phonetic, syntactic, and semantic study in some Quranic verses to show the impact of stopping and starting in integrating these levels. We concluded that it is necessary to go beyond the inherited view of separating the levels of the Arabic tongue, which has arisen through linguistic theories aimed at specialized scrutiny, thus narrowing the perspective and obscuring the comprehensive vision.

Abstract

This study aims to find the relationship between the meaning of signs and the optimal meaning of the story of Dzul-Qarnain in the Qur'an, Surah al-Kahfi. Through these semiotic signs, it is hoped will make it easier for readers to understand the story of the character Dzul-Qarnain completely, deeply and to know the symbolic message behind the story. To analyze the data, a semiotic method is needed. This study will use the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, where a sign is something that represents something in some way or capacity for someone. Something that is used as a sign has a function, Peirce called it ground. The consequences of a sign (representamen) are always in a triadic relationship, namely a sign, object and interpretant. With the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, a number of semiotic phenomena in the story of the character Dzul-Qarnain will be seen in more detail so that the reading is more accurate. Apart from that, two interpretations can be achieved, namely the semiotic interpretation of the linguistic signs in the story of Dzul-Qarnain and the semiotic interpretation of the preaching message which is the main goal of the Qur'an in this story.

Abstract

This study delves into the realm of collocations within Arabic language instruction for non-native speakers, focusing on the associated challenges, difficulties in comprehension, and the influence of their rhetorical and metaphorical intricacies on learners' lexical development. It also advocates for the integration of collocations into linguistic lessons. This research is crucial due to the scarcity of comprehensive studies addressing this subject, aiming to fill the existing gap by scrutinizing a problem often overlooked in its entirety. Given its profound impact on the attainment and linguistic competence of non-Arabic speakers, collocations represent one of the most formidable hurdles in Arabic language acquisition. Their complexity, encompassing rhetorical, semantic, and cultural nuances, renders direct translation and analysis challenging.
