Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the consumption pattern and nutrient status of student-athletes in Center of Construction and Sport Practice at Province East Nusa Tenggara. The method of research was a survey method with cross-sectional design study. The research was done in the Center of Construction and Sport Practice for student East Nusa Tenggara Province at Oebufu, from October 2009 until January 2010. Using census, there were 30 athletes had been interviewed. The results showed that the pattern of consumption of athletes was (1) frequency of eating third times a day and snack once a day in the evening, (2) variety of food consumption was classified as good with 7-8 types of food/day, weekly 8-10 types and monthly more than 10 types. The energy sufficiency level of athletes on the average were 73,37% which included insufficient category, which spread in boxing 78,15% (sufficient level), athletics 66,92% (under level), traditional self-defence arts 75,37% (sufficient level), and rattan plaited into a rough ball 65,59% (under level). While the mean of protein sufficiency level of athletes were 64,06% which in under category, which spread in boxing 69,38% (under level), athletics 57,61% (very low level)

Abstract

Malaria is one of the diseases that still becomes a threat, even often float the outbreaks (KLB) in the area that never found the malaria case before. It happened because the weakening of the care system early and the planning of eradication of malaria do not precisely and continual. To overcome this problem, needed the eradication program of malaria that doing by chronically and integrated. According to the Management Program of Eradication Malaria (P2M) Module and Program in Puskesmas Seba, there is some activity that acts as the effort to against malaria disease: 1)invention of the patient, 2) medication of patient, 3) spraying house and 4) distribution of mosquito’s net. The study is aimed to know the efficacy level of this program. Therefore, it’s necessary to evaluate the output of this program. The Type of this study is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The population is the entire officer of health in Puskesmas Seba. The sample amount to 12 one who represents the overall population. Data analysed descriptively. Result of the research indicates that from 3 activity of invention patient (ACD, PCD, and Posmaldes), only 2 activity that is PCD and Posmaldes that doing.

Abstract

Male participation in the use of contraceptive tools and the method of contraception are the real form of awareness and responsibility of family planning program implementation and reproduction health. An action someone takes is the first of all started with attitude. Some one’s positive or negative attitude will affect his/her behaviour. Men are hoped to have a positive attitude to the use of contraceptive tools and the method of contraception. The aim of the research is to find out the male attitude toward the use of contraceptive tools and the method of contraception in Kota Kupang. This research is quantitative in nature and of a cross-sectional study of descriptive type. There were 376 males of reproductive age who had been taken as samples. They were taken by the use of the Multi-Stage Random Sampling technique. The sample has been “proportioned” into four district regions of Kota Kupang. The result of the research showed that 295 men (78.5%) had a positive attitude toward the use of a condom, while 276 men (73.4%) had a positive attitude toward the use of vasectomy. Of all the men who have shown a positive attitude, there were 47 (15.9%) using condom.

Abstract

Food formula could is easily reserved as usual food for children under five years old. Giving additional food to preschool children can increase body weight and hemoglobin content to prevent the incidence of protein and energy malnutrition (PEM). The purpose of the research is to know the impact of food formula product using mug-bean and fish flour with local red rice and banana as basic food. Factorial experimental design with two-time replications and Randomized Block Design (RBD) as basic design were used in the research. Protein content was analyzed using Kjeldahl methods, and carbohydrate content was analyzed using Shaffer-Somogyi II methods, while fat content was analyzed using extract ether. The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference (P<0.05) and higher protein content on additional 50 grams of mug-bean and fish flour separately compared with an additional 0 and 25 grams of mug-bean and fish flour respectively. While carbohydrate content analysis for additional mug-bean on food formula showed that the additional 50 grams of mug-bean and fish flour separately has a significant difference (P<0.05) and lower carbohydrate content compared with additional 0 and 25 gram of mug-bean and fish flour respectively.

Abstract

Motivation is a stimulating factor for someone to do something by conscious. The role of motivation for performance midwife is important for PUSKESMAS to improve service quality. The general objective of the research is to know the role of midwife motivation performance at four sub-districts in Timor South Center district. The specific objective of the research is to know the description of motivation, midwife performance and the role of motivation in midwife working performance. Descriptive research using a qualitative approach had been used in the research. The population of the research was all midwives at PUSKEMAS for four sub-districts namely, Ayotupas, Niki-Niki, Nulle and Kapan. There were 8 (eight) midwife had been taken for each sub-district as a sample in the research. The result of the research showed that the motivation of midwife based on the need for fulfilment level was very high with an average of 82.28%. The average need for fulfilment levels is physiology 56.25%, sense of security 79.16%, social 96.87%, self-esteem 91.66% and self-actualization 87.5%.

Abstract

One of the factors which have an important role to increase human resources is giving breastfeeding in the early life of a baby. Babies and children under five years old who get breastfeeding have a low risk of diarrhea compare with those who do not get breastfeeding. Based on the data from the Provincial Health Service Office of East Nusa Tenggara Timur, during January-December 2008, there are 77,741 babies got diarrhea and 16 of them died. The aim of the research is to know the probability of having diarrhea case between babies who got breastfeeding with those who did not have in Puskesmas Bakunase working area during 2009. There were 60 babies have been taken as samples which consisted of 30 babies had diarrhea case and 30 babies were not. Mother’s age, education attainment, outside home job, income, knowledge about breastfeeding, age and nutrition status of the baby were observed as variables in this research. An analytical survey with a retrospective scheme had been used in this research.

Abstract

The research is aimed at knowing or finding out the degree of Escherichia coli contamination on water and food at some eating places in the working region of Puskesmas Oepoi, Kota Kupang in 2009. This research is a descriptive observation of nature in the form of a cross-sectional design. There are three samples of eating places that have been determined according to the so-called purposive sampling. 15 samples of food and water for food preparation of the same amount have been used in this research. The use of such sample materials is based upon the recommendation by the International Commission of Microbiological Spesification on Food. Method of laboratory examination has been employed to measure all variables. The result of the laboratory examination on the samples of food indicates that the degree of Escherichia coli contamination in the food served in the three eating places is high. The same analysis is true with the water preserved for food preparation, i.e. the degree of contamination of Escherichia coli is high.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the relationship between the lighting and working shift, and the fatigue work of the nurses in the Emergency Unit at RSUD Baa Sub District the Regency of Rote Ndao in 2008. It is observational-analytic research by using the design of the cross-sectional study. The population of this research is all 10 nurses in the Emergency Unit at RSUD Baa Sub District the Regency of Rote Ndao. This population is also a sample of this research. This research applies Phi-Coefficient of Association as the statistical test to test the relationship between lighting and fatigue work, and also to Contingency Coefficient Test to test the relationship between shift work and fatigue work. The result of the research shows that there is a relationship between lighting and fatigue work of nurses in the Emergency Unit at RSUD Baa Sub District the Regency of Rote Ndao in 2008 with p = 0,033. Moreover, there is a relationship between shift work and fatigue work of nurses in the Emergency Unit at RSUD Baa Sub District the Regency of Rote Ndao in 2008 with p = 0,040.

Abstract

This research aims to assess the impact of a combination of discussion with a simulation method on mothers behaviour towards providing a nutritional diet for children under three years old at Kelurahan Karang Siri Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan. The subjects of this research are mothers of children under three years with malnutrition in Kelurahan Karang Siri Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan. Data were collected and calculated by a proportion formula of 20 %. The total number of respondents in this study is 22 mothers. This study used a quasi-experimental design with one group pre-tested post-tested. The data was gathered using questionnaire and interviews and the result was analyzed by Wilcoxon (ά = 0.05). Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in mothers‘ knowledge for providing nutritional diet for children under three years old after combining the discussion and simulation method (p=0.000 < 0.05). This study found that the combination of discussion and simulation method had an impact on changing behaviour among mothers in providing nutritional diet for children under three years old at Kelurahan Karang Siri Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan in 2009.

Abstract

Obesity, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension in patient with renal kidney disorder increase the risk of renal failure which is characterized by decrease in the filtration capacity of kidney (glomerulus filtration pace). If the filtration capacity below 15 cc per minute, patient should had take hemodialysis for survival. In addition, it is important for them to control their eating pattern. The objective of the study would be to know food consumption pattern of patient with kidney failure taking ambulatory hemodialysis. This is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Population was patient with renal failure undergoing ambulatory hemodialysis in RSUD dr. Pirngadi Medan. The size of sample was 55 of patients taken purposively. The data of food consumption pattern were collected by means of food frequency questionnaire and 24 hours food recall which was conducted two times. The result showed that most of the patients aged between 54 and 62 years old. Food consumption patterns─type, quantity, and frequency─were categorized as ‘not good’. Also, potassium and sodium intakes were in the ‘not good’ category. In general, the daily water intake of the patient was in excessive amount.
