Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the effectiveness of Simon says game on students’ listening ability at class VIII I of SMPN 1 Jombang. The method used in this research was quantitative method with a pre- experimental design. Population of the research was eighth grade of SMPN 1 Jombang, and the researcher used class VIII I as the sample of this research with total 30 students which consisted of 12 boys and 18 girls. The instrument of this study was listening test and it was conducted before (pre-test) and after (post- test) the treatment. The result of the data was analyzed using SPSS for windows ver.25. The mean score of students in the pre- test is 76,67 and the mean score of students in post- test is 95,17. Therefore, the paired sample t-test is 0,000 which is lower than 0,05. That means H0 is rejected (null hypothesis) and Ha is accepted (alternative hypothesis). To sum it up, the results show that Simon says game was effective on students’ listening ability. Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze: (1) to find out students’ perception of the program Gerakan Literasi Sekolah, (2) to find out the reading English achievement of students’, (3) to find out the correlation between Gerakan Literasi Sekolah and students’ reading English achievement at SMAN 4 Kediri. This research used the quantitative approach as the research design. Then, the data collected by using questionnaire and document. This research carried out 194 students of eleventh grade of SMAN 4 Kediri as the sample. The result showed that: (1) the results of the students' perceptions of the Gerakan Literasi Sekolah took a sample of 194 students. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions, with a total of 3.880 answers. Data analysis of the average number of students answered "yes" a total of 3.578, answered "no" a total of 302. So, from the result it can have a positive impact on students' reading desire. (2) the result of student reading English achievement shows a total of 194 students. A minimum student score of 75 with a total of 2 students or 1.0% and a maximum student score of 92 with a total of 1 student or 0.5. The average score of the dominant students is 83 with a total of 65 students or 33.5%. So, from the result can the score of students reading English is positive with good results. (3) the result of the students' perceptions of the Gerakan Literasi Sekolah on students' reading English achievement have a significant effect 0.031 < 0.05 on the t-test. So, from the result can be concluded that Ha is accepted.

Abstract

Reading is one of essential things in academic world. Most of refferences such as books, journal articles, online information, terms in academic study use English as the languange. Understanding an English text related to their major is a must to enrich literacy of the students. This study aims to investigate teaching strategies in improving English reading comprehension skill, It is carried out based on case study of sharia business management students of IAIN Kediri in English text study class. This study used qualitative descriptive method. The data is taken from observation, interview and documentation. This study tries to describe the strategies used by lecturers to overcome problems that arise related to reading comprehension skills in English text study class on Islamic business management c in FEBI IAIN Kediri. In the teaching process there are three stages implemented which aim to improve reading comprehension skills. The first stage is reading orientation and technique, namely the introduction of reading orientation, enriching vocabulary and learning reading techniques. then the second is compiling a summary that aims to measure and sharpen students' understanding of the reading and the last is evaluation. This strategy has proven to be effective in overcoming students' reading problems. this is evidenced by the increase in reading comprehension skills. Besides that, it is also proven by test results that pass the minimum standard score.

Abstract

This study aims to find problems that influenced the student’s speaking difficulties in English Specific Purposes especially in the accounting field. The results are necessary to find some solutions so it can graduate qualified students who are ready for facing some futures career challenge. Nowadays interpersonal communications skill is required for employees. This research conducted in the accounting study program and the students as key informants. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. According to the findings, internal and external factors both have an influence on students’ speaking difficult. The recommendations from this research are by creating good emotional relationships between teacher and students, conducting students cantered learning, and fun cooperative learning.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop learning materials for the precise understanding of Basic Grammar in English, in the form of a Pocket Book, specifically designed for eighth-grade students at MTs Bustanul Ulum, Glagah, Lamongan. The research employed a developmental research approach, consisting of ten stages: Need Survey, product design, design validation, design revision, try out 1, product revision, try out 2, product revision, and final product. The developed product underwent review by a supervisor, Media Expert, and Material Expert, and was evaluated by 15 students from MTs Bustanul Ulum. The research instruments included a questionnaire for the Validators, a questionnaire for student feedback, and an interview guide for the teacher to analyze the students' results. The students' responses were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods, with the quantitative analysis used for calculating the results and the qualitative analysis employed for interviews, critiques, and suggestions. The findings indicated that the students required a supportive book for learning English with simple explanations and comprehensibility. The outcome of this study was the creation of a Basic English Grammar Pocket Book. The researcher suggests that this product can be utilized in the learning process for an extended period as it facilitates easy studying and allows students to carry the book everywhere they go.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine whether the ability of the fourth semester students of accounting program of Politeknik Sekayu in writing English essays through Process Genre-Based Approach (PGBA) increase. The design of this experiment method research was pre-experimental-one group pretest posttest. The population was semester IV (even) students for the academic year 2022/2023. Total sampling technique was applied. Data collection techniques were carried out using pretest and post-test. The treatment was carried out 6 times. The results of the data were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the posttest average score (70.7) was higher than the pretest average (55.67). This showed that the semester students' ability to write English essays through the Application of the Process Genre-Based Approach (PGBA) increased. The results of this study were very useful for: (1) students to improve their essay writing skills; (2) teachers (lecturers) to add an approach to learning to write essays through PGBA with (a) preparation stages; (b) modeling and reinforcing; (c) planning; (d) joint construction; (e) independent constructing; and (f) revising. (3) English lecturers and teachers can conduct classroom action research using PGBA.

Abstract

This study examines the user experience of the UNISKA LMS platform, implemented for blended learning at Kadiri Islamic University, utilizing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The descriptive qualitative research, conducted with students and lecturers from the Department of English, collected data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Results show that the platform's perceived ease of use and usefulness significantly impact its acceptance. Users generally found the LMS beneficial for organizing study materials and enhancing engagement through multimedia integration. However, initial challenges included unfamiliarity with the system and technical issues like page maintenance problems and manual quiz input. Despite these issues, the platform facilitated a smooth transition from traditional to online learning environments, underscoring its potential to support modern educational practices. Improvements in system stability and feature simplicity are recommended to enhance user satisfaction and effectiveness. The findings contribute to understanding the practical application of LMS platforms in higher education, aligning with global trends in e-learning and ICT-based education models.

Abstract

Numerous studies in the field of discourse analysis (DA) have utilized X application as their primary data source. This study examines code-mixing in tweets from the '@skipberat' Xaccount between May 18, 2024, and June 18, 2024. Using descriptive qualitative with focus on discourseanalysis, it explores the types of code mixing used by the X user ‘@skipberat’ in his tweets. The research identifiesand categorized the tweets into three types of code mixing namely insertion,alternation, and congruent lexicalization. Findings highlight that insertion emerging as the most frequent form followed by alternation and congruent lexicalization.Insertion code-mixing occurs when the speakers insert lexical items into another language.The example from the ‘@skipberat’ tweet is‘Panjang umur aespa karir kalian bakal longlasting’. The English word ‘long lasting’ is inserted in the last and it does not change the grammatical so it is categorized into insertion code mixing. There is still a lot of tweets can be analysedby code mixing or others issues in Discourse Analysis so the next researcher can explore more.

Abstract

Previous surveys on college academic reading often utilized questionnaires and lacked in-depth analysis to assess students' reading skills. This present study involving 80 students of Universitas Pahlawan assessed students’ academic reading skills using Correlation Test, Manova Test, and Duncan Test. In addition to examine the importance of these skills, this study also identified the need to have adequate academic reading skills. The gap between the pre-test and post-test signified the significant effects on reading skill, analysis and evaluation, reading strategies and efficiency, and influential factors. However, comprehension skills, linguistic discourse, and knowledge did not have a significant effect. Furthermore, this study also discusses the implications for researchers and for the practices of the course.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of Hello English application on student’s vocabulary achievement in XI grade students of SMAN 2 pare. Using the correct instructional media and approaches can assist students in mastering English vocabulary. Researchers are interested in studying the possibilities of the Hello English application being reviewed as an effective learning media. To design this research, quantitative research technique was used to design this research. The experimental group was taught with Hello English application, whereas the control group was not. As data collecting methods, pretest and posttest were used. The results indicated a considerable difference between the classes that used application and the other ones. This is evidenced by the disparity in average scores. The average pre-test score for the experimental class was 71.50 and the control group was average score 70.33 and post-test 84.50 in experimental class while in control class 79.67. In addition, the use of independent t-test findings was determined to be 0.004. That is less than 0.05. It can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using Hello English application is effective.
