Abstract

Language style can be seen in particular language forms, such as variation, style of language, or dialect, and its application in society. Researchers are interested in researching language style because each individual has their style of speech. When Taylor Swift spoke, she did not read the script but spoke spontaneously. Therefore, this study's purpose is to analyze the type of language style and the dominant language style used by Taylor Swift in her speech at New York University on the day of her doctoral graduation. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The data obtained came from the official New York University YouTube channel as the primary source and speech transcripts from the official billboard music web page. In this study, researchers used the leading theory, namely Martin Joos (1967). Therefore, it can be concluded that the casual style is the most common because it tends to lead to the life story of Taylor Swift so that the language used tends to be relaxed, which is presented in an easy-to-understand language such as daily English.

Abstract

This research describes the use of Wordtune as an AI-Powered writing tool for rewriting or rephrasing English writing. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The analysis shows that Wordtune can be accessed at www.wordtune.com. If we do not have an account, we can register by using Google, Apple, Facebook, and Email, then we can log in. We answer questions related to writing needs and choose our profession and native language. In an initial trial, we can use Wordtune in a free version. We can input the sample sentences or text in the column available. Several alternative writing options including Rewrite, Casual, Formal, Shorten, and Expand” will be generated, then we choose one of them. Wordtune gives us several options to adjust to our writing style including casual, formal, short, or expand. Rewrite is exploring new ways to rephrase our sentences. Casual is conveying a lighter and less serious tone for the right audience. Formal is presenting sentences in a more sophisticated and professional way. Shortening is sticking to word limits and conveying messages clearly and concisely. Expanding is expanding our sentences to give more detail, nuance, and depth. We as educators need to teach students how to use this AI text writer wisely and responsibly. Students can use it to help improve the clarity and style of their writing. However, every writing produced by AI certainly needs to be checked for accuracy because AI tools may produce results that are inconsistent with readability and meaning.

The results showed that there was a change between the experimental class and the control class, seen based on the average value of the experimental class of 59.77 superior to the control class of 50.91. After being tested using the independent t-test, it shows a significance of 0.043 that the value is less than 0.05 in accordance with the predetermined significance level. These results indicate that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the chain story technique is very effective to be applied to speaking skills.

The aim of this research is to assess how effectively the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program prepares accounting students for job opportunities. The goal of the ESP program is to provide students with the English language proficiency required in the profession, particularly in the accounting industry, which frequently deals with foreign reporting and global standards. Students, lecturers, and graduates of the accounting study program were surveyed and interviewed as part of this mixed-methods study.
