Abstract

This study highlights the role of K-pop fandom, particularly Indonesian NCTzens, in a boycott campaign against the collaboration between NCT and Starbucks conducted on the X social media platform. Framed by a sensitive geopolitical context, this research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing non-participant observation of the @nct_menfess fanbase account and in-depth interviews with seven informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed thematically to understand patterns of digital communication, fan content production, and the mobilization of collective campaigns in online spaces. The findings reveal that the boycott campaign carried out by Indonesian NCTzens represents a form of participatory culture that goes beyond fan support and evolves into social advocacy. Digital strategies such as hashtag activism, fan edits, memes, and real-world actions like LED truck protests demonstrate that fandom communities hold potential as active civic agents in global public discourse. This study contributes to the understanding of fandom’s role as a social force in the digital age.

Abstract

This study evaluates the use of code-switching and code-mixing in Japanese-language songs popularized by the Korean boyband Seventeen as part of the multilingual functions in pop music media. Using a qualitative approach, this analysis applies Poplack and Gumperz's code-switching theories regarding bilingualism phenomena, as well as Edwin and Even’s code-mixing theory in the context of World Englishes. Data were collected through documentation and transcription of song lyrics, focusing on the linguistic classification of code-switching and code-mixing. The study reveals that the use of code-switching serves complex communicative functions, not limited to two-way interaction, but also as a strategy for message delivery in one-way communication, such as in songs. These findings broaden the understanding of the function of code-switching in one-way communication contexts and underscore the important role of multilingualism in expanding a song’s global reach while reinforcing the linguistic identity of the artist.

Abstract

The digitalization era has brought significant changes in how communication is conducted, especially during crises. One of the challenges faced is how the government handles crises that affect public reputation. This study aims to analyze the crisis communication strategies employed by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenKopUKM) in managing crises through the use of influencers. The theories utilized in this research are the Social-Mediated Crisis Communication (SMCC) theory and crisis communication theory, which explain how communication mediated through social media can repair damaged public images. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with an in-depth case study design, accompanied by content analysis to examine the meaning of messages conveyed through social media. Data is collected through in-depth interviews with the KemenKopUKM communication team and involved influencers, as well as an analysis of relevant documents. The operationalization of concepts involves identifying key indicators of crisis communication and the effectiveness of using influencers in the repair process.

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method to examine the phenomenon of hate speech within the context of cyberdemocracy, particularly in relation to the case of Dandhy Dwi Laksono on the Facebook social media platform. A case study approach is chosen to conduct an in-depth analysis of a specific incident by taking into account the surrounding social, political, and media contexts. This method enables the researcher to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex social dynamics and digital interactions involved, including public responses to the hate speech in question. The study aims to explore the process of public opinion formation, the mechanisms of production and distribution of hate speech in digital spaces, and the role of social media as a contested arena for discourse and freedom of expression within the framework of Indonesia’s digital democracy. Thus, this research not only examines the textual aspects of hate speech but also analyzes the accompanying socio-political implications, as well as the dynamics of power and resistance within an ever-evolving cyberspace.
