Abstract

The fried-shallot industry generates large quantities of waste cooking oil, which is commonly stockpiled and, in some cases, distributed to nearby residents for household cooking. This practice poses environmental risks and potential health impacts, asdegraded oil continues to be consumed. These challenges form the basis of this community engagement program, whichaims to support partner enterprises in managing waste cooking oil to prevent negative impacts while transforming it into value-added products. The program aimed to assist the partner in managing used cooking oil into high-value, eco- friendly products in the form of biodiesel. The implementation used the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, emphasizing active participation of the partner in all stages, including socialization on waste management, biodiesel production training, equipment fabrication, and establishment of a biodiesel production unit at the partner’s site. The results showed a significant improvement in the partner’sknowledge and skills in waste management; 100% of the used cooking oil waste was successfully processed into biodiesel, providing additional income opportunities. Moreover, the activity encouraged the industry to operate more sustainably andcontribute to green energy provision. This program demonstrated that technical assistance combined with simple technologycan create an economically and environmentally sustainable production system.

Abstract

Technological advancements in the modern era have led to increased gadget usage across various age groups, including children. While gadgets facilitate learning, uncontrolled use carries potential negative consequences, such as addiction, reduced social interaction, and impaired psychological development. To address this, university students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) conducted educational sessions and training for children in grades 1–6 of elementary school and grade 1 of junior high school. The program comprised three activities: an educational session on the risks of gadget use for children, an interactive word-guessing game, and a creative kite-painting session. The methods employed included face-to-face instruction using interactive videos and educational vocabulary cards, alongside kite painting to foster creativity. The results showed that participants actively engaged in discussions during the Q&A sessions regarding gadget usage. The word-guessing game revealed that most participants still required guidance in reading and comprehending English vocabulary, while the kite-painting activity demonstrated the children's high level of creativity through diverse artworks and their ability to explain the meanings behind their paintings. Observations indicated that the children maintained active social interactions, with almost no participants showing signs of gadget addiction or social withdrawal. This program provided education on the wise use of gadgets while simultaneously enhancing the children's creativity, social interaction, and cognitive skills through interactive learning activities.

Abstract

The environment is one of the important aspects that can support the survival of living things. One of the environmental challenges in Margahayu Village is the accumulation of plastic waste, particularly plastic bottles, whose numbers continue to rise and have a detrimental impact on the environment. The environment is the responsibility of both the community and the government to ensure access to a healthy lifestyle. The methods employed in this community service initiative are one way to help improve the quality of life for the community and strengthen their capacity to address various challenges in their daily lives. One way to improve the quality of life of the community and enhance their ability to face daily challenges is by using a community service approach known as community empowerment. Students collaborate with the Margahayu Village community, particularly in Kp. Rawa Semut, to create a container or what is known as the Plastic Bottle Waste Bank. This initiative aims to help the community convert plastic bottle waste into a marketable commodity. With the hope that the community can sort waste and maintain a clean environment free from plastic bottles that are difficult to decompose. Based on the discussion results in line with the proposed title, it can be concluded that students collaborated with the Margahayu village community, specifically in RW 012, to carry out community service and planting activities around the park area. This initiative aimed to improve the health quality of the surrounding community in preparing for the dengue fever season and to clean up waste piles.

Abstract

Shoreline change is an important indicator for understanding coastal environmental dynamics as it reflects the interaction between erosion and accretion processes occurring both temporally and spatially. The Batakan River Estuary, located in Panyipatan District, Tanah Laut Regency, is a coastal area influenced by the interaction of fluvial and marine processes, making it vulnerable to shoreline morphological changes. This study aims to analyze shoreline dynamics in the Batakan River Estuary during the 2020–2025 period using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) approach. The data consisted of shorelines extracted from Sentinel-2 imagery acquired between 2020 and 2025 and processed using Google Earth Engine. The analysis employed the Net Shoreline Movement (NSM) parameter to measure shoreline displacement and the End Point Rate (EPR) parameter to calculate the annual rate of shoreline change. The results indicate that shoreline changes occurred throughout the estuarine area, with distinct characteristics in each segment. Segment 1 was dominated by accretion, with NSM values ranging from 0.70 to 167.06 m and EPR values ranging from 0.35 to 33.41 m/year. Segment 2 exhibited a fluctuating pattern, with NSM values ranging from -19.93 to 21.37 m and EPR values ranging from -3.99 to 4.27 m/year. Segment 3 experienced the highest erosion intensity, characterized by a minimum NSM value of -79.60 m and a minimum EPR value of -15.92 m/year. Meanwhile, Segment 4 showed a mixed pattern, with NSM values ranging from 10.71 to 57.55 m and EPR values ranging from -2.14 to 11.51 m/year. These findings indicate that shoreline dynamics in the Batakan River Estuary are spatially heterogeneous, forming distinct patterns across different segments of the estuary. The spatial information generated from this study can serve as a basis for coastal zone management, environmental monitoring, erosion mitigation planning, and sustainable sediment management.

Abstract

Land cover change is an important indicator of environmental dynamics because it is closely associated with ecological function alteration, ecosystem degradation, and the sustainability of land resource utilization. Mataraman District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, has experienced rapid expansion of oil palm plantations and mining activities that potentially affect environmental conditions and landscape structure. However, spatial information regarding the location, extent, and direction of land cover change remains limited, highlighting the need for more detailed information to support environmental monitoring and regional management. This study aimed to develop spatial information on land cover change from 2020 to 2025 using Sentinel-2 imagery and the Random Forest algorithm within the Google Earth Engine platform. The analysis was conducted through land cover classification, change detection, and transition matrix approaches to identify changes in area, spatial distribution, and conversion patterns among land cover classes. The results showed that secondary forest decreased by 6,026.04 ha (-30.22%), while oil palm plantations and mining areas increased by 4,422.16 ha (+22.18%) and 1,606.97 ha (+8.06%), respectively. The largest land cover conversion occurred from secondary forest to oil palm plantations, covering 4,069.57 ha, followed by secondary forest to mining areas, covering 1,537.75 ha. Change status analysis indicated that approximately 8,736.12 ha, or 44% of the total area of Mataraman District, experienced land cover change during the observation period. The spatial information generated provides a detailed representation of land cover dynamics and can serve as a supporting reference for environmental monitoring, land-use evaluation, and more adaptive regional management in response to land use change.

Abstract

PT XYZ, a company operating in the manufacturing, telecommunications, and financial services sectors, faced a need to enhance its human resource capabilities regarding the systematic evaluation of job satisfaction—a foundation for formulating employee development strategies. Previously, job satisfaction evaluations had not utilized a method capable of identifying improvement priorities in a structured manner. This community service initiative aimed to assist the partner in implementing the Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) method as a tool for evaluating job satisfaction and formulating human resource development recommendations. The implementation process involved coordinating and identifying the partner's needs, introducing concepts of job satisfaction and the IPA method, providing guidance on developing and administering evaluation instruments, analyzing results collaboratively with the partner, and formulating follow-up recommendations. The activity was evaluated by analyzing the IPA mapping results across ten job satisfaction indicators. The assistance provided enabled the partner to understand the application of the IPA method as an internal evaluation tool and to identify attributes requiring priority improvement: knowledge of job, productivity, and leadership qualities. Additionally, attributes such as quality of work, adaptability, judgment, interpersonal relations, and performance fell into the category requiring maintenance. This initiative benefited the partner by enhancing their capacity to independently conduct job satisfaction evaluations and formulate more targeted human resource development programs based on the evaluation results.
