Warta Pengabdian Andalas: Jurnal Ilmiah Pengembangan Dan Penerapan Ipteks
Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas (JWA) Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas (JWA) is a scientific journal managed by LPPM Universitas Andalas. This journal accepts articles related to community services for Indonesian society in field of both life and social sciences. It is published four times in a year, namely March, June, September, and December. Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas (JWA), with registered number ISSN 0854-655X (print), is a scientific multidisciplinary journal published by Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Universitas Andalas. It is in the national level that covers a lot of common problems or issues related to community services. The aim of this journal publication is to disseminate the conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in the area of community services. Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas (JWA), contains various activities of the teaching staff in Universitas Andalas in handling and managing the various potentials, obstacles, challenges, and problems that exist in society. Implementation of service activities also involve the participation of the community and partners. Service activities are organized into an activity aimed at improving the welfare of society. In the following year of publication, the journal is going to publish four-nually. Any interested author could submit the manuscript following the submission guidelines. Please read these guidelines carefully. Authors who want to submit their manuscript to the editorial office of Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas (JWA) should obey the writing guidelines. If the manuscript submitted is not appropriate with the guidelines or written in a different format, it will be REJECTED by the editors before further reviewed. The editors will only accept the manuscripts which meet the assigned format. Every article that goes to the editorial staff will be selected through Desk Review and Initial Manuscript Evaluation processes by Editorial Board. Then, the articles will be sent to the peer reviewer and will go to the next selection by Double Blind Peer-Review Process. <![CDATA[CV Rokir Farm, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, produced a long-established business. It is engaged in dairy farming to produce goat's milk. The main problem is developing product quality that can upgrade the marketing product's performance. This community service activity aimed to increase business growth, develop product competitiveness to reach markets outside the Agam Regency and accelerate the diffusion of technology and management from universities to partners. The activity was carried out in 3 stages: preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The result of this activity was an increase in promotion through social media. This activity resulted in several suggestions, such as 1) Partners are invited to continue activities to control the production process from raw materials to finished products, 2) Partners continue to increase the use of social media for online marketing and increase traditional marketing to expand marketing, 3) Computer investment is needed for development products, 4) It is necessary to develop galleries and farmer's cooperatives to help business growth, and 5) There is a need for vigorous promotion to market products.]]>

<![CDATA[Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation and sensitization to Sarcoptes scabei hominis. The incidence of scabies at the Islamic boarding school Dr M. Natsir Alahan Panjang is as much as 17.5%. The purpose of this activity was to describe the students' knowledge before and after counselling and the attitudes and behaviour of the students in dealing with scabies. The method was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach with 216 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria at the school. Based on the data, 146 respondents met the inclusion criteria, with respondents 16 years old and 29 respondents (19.9%) ranging in age from 12 to 21 years. The education level of the majority came from senior high school, with as many as 89 respondents (56.2%). Respondents did not understand about scabies with 115 (78,8%) but already had good knowledge about scabies with 135 (92,6%). There was an increase in the respondents' knowledge where initially, the respondents' knowledge before counselling had a percentage of 96,6% to 98% after counselling. In the attitude and behaviour aspects of the respondents, there was also an increase after counselling was carried out. There was a significant difference in knowledge between before and after counselling.]]>

<![CDATA[The mosque is one of the most visited public places. Currently, the sanitary conditions of the mosque are still not a concern of the community. There are still mosques that do not meet the sanitation requirements of public places. Poor mosque sanitation can cause various diseases in society caused by a polluted environment. This dedication aimed to present an overview of the sanitation condition of mosques in Mata Air, increase knowledge, and increase public awareness of the importance of mosque sanitation. The method used was data collection with sanitation inspection forms and personal hygiene questionnaires, interviews, dissemination of information through focus group discussion, and administration of the intervention of the book of pocket guides, poster, sanitary mosque SOPs, and garbage disposal in the Masjid of the Mata Air Village. The results of the sanitation assessment found that four of the eight mosques still have not met the sanitation requirements. Through this community dedication, an increase in the knowledge and awareness of mosque administrators regarding improving mosque sanitation was obtained. In this case, improved sanitation is essential to avoid the potential for disease transmission due to environmental pollution.]]>

<![CDATA[Cocoa is one of the primary commodities in Meureudu and Trienggadeng Sub-districts, Pidie Jaya Regency. Many cocoa farmers in the sub-districts still need to understand the process and benefits of fermenting cocoa beans. Bean fermentation is essential because it can increase biochemical changes and the concentration of flavour precursors in cocoa beans so that it has a high selling value. This community service activity was implemented using counselling methods, demonstrations, and the submission of fermenters. It was held for two days assisting and attended by 59 of 70 farmers from two groups. Results showed the participants' positive response to the partaking activities and their interest in fermenting cocoa. Through the activities that have been carried out, cocoa farmers understand and can maintain a good cocoa bean fermentation process. Assistance to farmer groups must be continuously conducted so that cocoa farmers remain consistent in fermenting cocoa beans to produce better quality cocoa.]]>

<![CDATA[Stunting or stunted children is a disorder of growth and development due to chronic malnutrition and repeated infections, characterized by their height being below the standards of the Ministry of Health. The stunting rate in Mata Air Village, South Padang District, is also reasonably high. Based on data obtained in October 2022, the number of stunting cases in Mata Air Village is 64 children. It was due to the lack of knowledge of pregnant women about stunting and the low economy of the community in the village. This activity aimed to practical the Interpersonal Communication approach in increasing the knowledge of pregnant women about stunting. The methods used were group discussion and Emotional Demonstration (Emo-Demo) with the application of Interpersonal Communication. The results showed an increase in knowledge from pregnant women. It proved that the Interpersonal Communication approach was quite effective in increasing the knowledge of pregnant women about stunting. The activity received a positive response from the people of Mata Air Village so that it could be carried out sustainably. Therefore, the Interpersonal Communication approach can increase mothers' knowledge about stunting and help prevent stunting in Mata Air Village.]]>

<![CDATA[The main factors related to open defecation behaviour in Jorong Lubuk Koto are the lack of basic sanitation facilities and the low level of public knowledge regarding health problems due to poor sanitation. Triggering Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is needed to help the community understand the diseases caused by open defecation practices and encourage community behaviour change to stop open defecation. Based on data from the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Sialang Public Health Center, the percentage of households with pit latrines is only 31.8%. CLTS had yet to be previously implemented in Jorong Lubuk Koto. Therefore, Jorong Lubuk Koto was chosen as the location for triggering CLTS. The CLTS activities included triggering, observations, and interviews through questionnaires. The pre-test and post-test questionnaires showed the increasing knowledge of participants regarding diseases caused by open defecation practices and the community's desire to build healthy family latrines.]]>

<![CDATA[Student creativity in the field of research can develop a method that has excellent potential to be utilized by the wider community. SMAN 3 Batusangkar students have high creativity and interest in participating in research olympiads, such as designing a video game structure as a therapeutic tool to help children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in problems with hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. The designed video game is part of their research plan proposed in the Indonesian Student Research Olympiad. However, the lack of understanding of the students in making video games with the concept of visual attention for children with ADHD to be used in research is a problem in itself. Therefore, the community service team in the Information Systems Department, Universitas Andalas, assisted in making video games to increase the understanding of the SMAN 3 Batusangkar team on making video games. This activity aimed to disseminate process knowledge related to making simple video games to support innovations that benefit society. Assistance was carried out intensively at the Basic Laboratory of the Information Systems Department to help the SMAN 3 Batusangkar team complete a series of research plans proposed for the Olympics, especially at stages related to making video games.]]>

<![CDATA[One of the organizations engaged in empowerment is the Lengkepe Creative Joint Business Group consisting of homemakers who carry out activities to improve the family's economy. This KUB comprises various businesses such as food, handicraft, and medicinal plant cultivation. Businesses run by KUB members are still small businesses and have yet to provide an economic boost to members. This Joint Business Group was established to help homemakers earn money and increase family income. The problem faced by KUB is inadequate capital to produce and market products. This service was carried out to provide enlightenment on how to utilize the social capital around KUB to develop KUB. The method used in this service was comprehensive assistance for all KUB members to identify social capital that can be utilized in the development of KUB. The activity results showed that social capital could be utilized, namely online and offline networks, in product marketing and obtaining raw materials. The following assistance needed for the KUB is institutional support that provides legality to the products produced.]]>

<![CDATA[This activity aims to provide socialization and training regarding the depreciation of fixed assets to village-owned enterprises called BUMDes Amanah Bukit Gajah, Palalawan Regency, Riau. It was due to that BUMDes have never depreciated their fixed assets at all. Depreciating fixed assets owned by BUMDes will improve the current quality of financial reporting. This activity began with understanding the business of BUMDes. Then it continues with the provision of training and pilots following existing cases in BUMDes, including compiling tables and making sheets of Microsoft Excel-based depreciation calculators needed by BUMDes. This activity was attended by 5 BUMDes employees responsible for financial reporting. The depreciation method and useful life of fixed assets will be adjusted to tax regulations. The result of this activity was in the form of the socialization of fixed assets and their depreciation.]]>

<![CDATA[Sanggar Rangkiang Salayo is a women's business group in Solok, West Sumatra. It has been developing a knitting business. The business program focuses on improving product quality, innovation, and systematic business administration. One of the essential aspects of business administration is having good and proper financial records and reporting. Several activities have been carried out to improve the recording and reporting of their business finances using an Excel-based accounting program. In this activity, participants were given training and accompanied when practising each financial recording and reporting stage using a pre-designed accounting program. The method used in this activity was providing material through lectures and training using Excel-based accounting programs demonstrated in front of the training participants. This Excel-based accounting program was designed according to Micro, Small and Medium Entity Financial Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM), which consists of six working papers integrated. The results of this activity were members of the Rangkiang Salayo who were more skilled in recording and reporting financial transactions for their business.]]>
