Abstract

When comparing Lawang to Nagari Tigo Balai, the latter exhibits an attractive appearance on product packaging, which is one of the crucial factors in the marketing strategy of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM). UMKM's issues in the Nagari Tigo Balai area include limited technology and knowledge in redesigning packaging. This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to assist UMKM in Nagari Tigo Balai in designing packaging for "Barandang" peanut products. The method consists of three stages: observation, analysis of the content of "Barandang" peanut products, and assistance in designing packaging until the design is ready for printing. The result of the assistance activity is the creation of packaging designs for "Barandang" peanut products for two UMKMs in Nagari Tigo Balai, namely LBM and ARYA, with nutritional information on the packaging. Based on the discussion during the assistance activity, this packaging redesign assistance plays a crucial role for UMKM practitioners in making their marketed products more attractive, thus increasing buyers' interest and purchasing power even further.

Abstract

Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the significant health problems in the world, including in Indonesia. The prevalence of hypertension in Lima Puluh Kota Regency in 2022 reached 15% or 10,688 out of 70,250 people who took blood pressure measurements. However, only 627 people (11.8%) took blood pressure measurements and received hypertension services according to standards. Therefore, it is necessary to increase public knowledge about hypertension. This service activity was carried out in September 2023 through the emo-demo method, which expects health promotion efforts through an emotional approach. The service activities were carried out on 37 community members, and it was found that there was an increase in the average score of community knowledge from 51.56 to 90.63. An increase can follow this increase in community knowledge, attitudes, and actions toward efforts to prevent and control hypertension, including the prevention of complications of hypertension in the community.

Abstract

The discovery of active compounds such as citronellol, citronellal, and geraniol in citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus) opens new opportunities for using essential oils derived from this plant. These compounds are well-known for their aromatic properties and various benefits in the derivative product industry. Combining these three compounds presents immense potential for developing high-quality products such as soaps, aromatherapy, and pesticides. Community engagement activities were conducted in Cibarani Village, Lebak Regency, Banten. The fertile land in Cibarani Village is well-suited for cultivating citronella grass (C. nardus). The activities began with outreach and training sessions to educate the local community on the potential of C. nardus essential oil. This initiative aimed to equip the community with adequate knowledge and skills to process C. nardus oil into various derivative products. The derivative products introduced included botanical pesticides for controlling pests in cultivated plants. This information is particularly beneficial for the Mekar Rahayu Farmers Group, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the potential of C. nardus essential oil as a botanical pesticide. It is hoped that the community will be able to produce botanical pesticides for personal use and sale to other farmers, thereby increasing their income. Simultaneously, the team also collected samples of citronella grass from Cibarani Village for distillation. The C. nardus oil obtained was analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify the dominant compounds. The essential oil produced from citronella grass in Cibarani Village, based on GC-MS results, revealed the main components as geraniol at 25.53% with a retention time of 13.212 minutes, citronellol at 15.71% with a retention time of 12.694 minutes, and citronellal at 17.19% with a retention time of 11.422 minutes.

Abstract

Students are one group of individuals who are in adolescent development. Adolescence is the stage of human development between childhood and adulthood. Growth and development are also felt in adolescence, including cognitive, personality, social, and physical development. Adolescence is the next generation of the nation's struggle and has a vital role in the nation's survival. Thus, various skills are needed in adolescents to face the development and challenges that lie ahead. One of the things that can be done is to provide debriefing related to essential life skills. Debriefing is done through training activities to increase students' knowledge of essential life skills. The participants of this activity were 27 students of SMAN 2 Padang Panjang. Training activities are packaged through applicative, interactive, and simple games that illustrate essential life skills—measurement of knowledge in students using an open-ended questionnaire that refers to essential life skills. After receiving training, we observed an increase in grades/scores in students, which was measured through a pre- and post-training assessment of their understanding and application of the essential life skills.

Abstract

To support one of the government's programs in the field of education, the use of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum, it is necessary to provide outreach and training to all elements of educational practitioners, especially teachers. Pesantren Perkampungan Minangkabau was chosen as a partner based on the greatest desire of the Islamic Boarding School and the Foundation, namely, to continue to follow the current development of the education system launched by the Republic of Indonesia. From the results of internal meetings between Islamic Boarding Schools and Foundations, one necessary thing is implementing the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in their environment. The main problem is that teachers or members of the Foundation need to understand the concept of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum. The method used in this community service is a workshop. From the results of the pre-test conducted before the workshop, even though around 83% of participants had heard and often heard of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum, it turned out that only 3.6% stated that they understood how to implement the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum. The rest said they did not understand enough or did not understand (41.6%), and more than half admitted they did not understand at all (54.5%). After the training, it was found that 78.2% understood the essence, procedures, and implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum.

Abstract

Adolescents are faced with many problems related to reproductive health, so adolescents need to know to be able to face these challenges. However, the knowledge of adolescents in Indonesia is still low, especially in terms of ways to protect themselves against reproductive health risks, such as preventing unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and AIDS. The provision of education needs to be done to address adolescent reproductive health problems. Educational activities related to reproductive health at MTsS Pesantren Thawalib Padang have never been conducted. The students MTsS are the right target group to be able to provide information related to reproductive health. The objective of this service activity is to enhance students' understanding of reproductive health, enabling them to cultivate a positive and responsible approach when addressing the sexual and reproductive changes that transpire within them. The approach employed involves student outreach and the placement of informative posters in their dormitories. The augmentation in students' knowledge was assessed using a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions before and after the activity. Data analysis was conducted through a paired sample t-test, a statistical method that compares the means of two related groups to determine if there is a significant difference between them. After the activity was carried out, there was an increase in the average level of knowledge before (pre-test), 40.63 to 49.76 after (post-test), providing education with a p-value of 0.000. It can be concluded that there is an increase in knowledge after adolescent reproductive health education. It is hoped that students can access reproductive health information from the posters displayed on the dormitory walls.

Abstract

Human activities pose significant threats to the biodiversity of Indonesia, leading to a decline in the population of endemic animals. Insufficient awareness among the public regarding the importance of conservation exacerbates wildlife trafficking and decreases animal populations. To enhance awareness, early-age education is crucial. Hand puppets, as educational tools, offer an engaging and practical approach to teaching children about Indonesian fauna. The implementation of Fauna Hand Puppetry (FHP) was conducted at SDN 22 Kuranji, and through a series of hand puppets, illustrated storybooks, and QR-coded tags linked to a website, the socialization aimed to capture children's interest and provide easy understanding of the protected fauna. FHP products are designed with child-safe materials and attractively packaged, empowering children to take an active role in conservation. Socialization methods involve PowerPoint (PPT) presentations to explain Indonesian wildlife and interactive Q&A sessions to allow students to inquire and discuss the presented materials. Through a combination of presentations and Q&A sessions, this socialization effort is anticipated to foster a better understanding among students regarding the importance of protecting Indonesian fauna. The quiz and Q&A session results conducted after the socialization showed that students' understanding increased, and they could answer an average of 9 out of 10 questions correctly related to Indonesian fauna.
