Abstract

This study focuses on the innovative behavior of millennials workers to calibrate the premises in Conservation of Resources Theory as a macro theory in this research area. An explanatory sequential design was applied through the Smart PLS analysis. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey of 129 millennial workers at starred hotels and validated through in-depth interviews. The findings of the study indicate that happiness at work fully mediates the effect of psychological capital on innovative work behavior. This confirms premises in conservation theory which postulates that psychological capital offers psychological resources that enable employees to experience job happiness, which in turn fosters the development of innovative behavior. Several dimensions play an important role in the formation of innovation through work happiness, namely a positive work environment, career development opportunities and flexibility, work-family balance, recognition and appreciation. The practical implications of this study offer recommendations for star hotel management to enhance organizational culture that fosters employees’ happiness at workplace by implementing recognition and appreciation programs, providing work-life balance facilities, and strengthening positive work relationships. Theoretically, these findings align with the conservation of resources theory which is emphasizing the reinforcement of internal resources to support innovative work behavior.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of community empowerment in developing cultural and historical tourism villages in Pariangan Village, located in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. Data was collected from 151 respondents, consisting of local and foreign individuals, using a quantitative approach. To ensure the accuracy of the data, the research instruments were tested for validity and reliability. The research results indicate that the development of tourism villages is significantly influenced by community empowerment, which includes active community participation, the formation of business groups, training, and government support. In addition to contributing to the preservation of culture and the environment, this empowerment also increases the income and well-being of the local community. According to regression analysis, community empowerment is a very strong predictor of tourism village development (? = 0.989; p < 0.001). These results indicate that communities must be involved in sustainable tourism development. Therefore, tourism village development strategies should focus on enhancing the capabilities of local communities and increasing their participation.

Abstract

The establishment of Social Forestry Business Groups is a part of the social forestry program aimed at improving community welfare through forest-based economic activities. This study analyzes the role of the Wisata Rengganis Social Forestry Business Group in environmental conservation within the Kampung Durian Tourism Area, Pakis Village, Panti District, Jember Regency. Employing a qualitative method with a case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the Wisata Rengganis Social Forestry Business Group contributes to environmental conservation through three aspects of sustainable forest management: (1) community-based forest management involving residents and youth, (2) resource-based forest management through greening and soil conservation, and (3) good corporate governance, which includes having a clear organizational structure, information transparency, openness to community and visitors suggestions, and decision-making through deliberation.

Abstract

This paper critically examines the contested relationship between customary forest management, sustainable tourism development, and inclusive leadership in Bali, Indonesia. Through a comparative case study approach, it analyzes the divergent outcomes of community-based conservation efforts. The first case focuses on the Tamblingan Lake region, where four villages (Catur Desa) strive to gain legal recognition of their customary forest (Merta Jati) against government-backed commercial interests. The second case, Tenganan Pegringsingan Village, provides a contrasting example of a successful, long-established customary forest management system integrated with cultural tourism, albeit with emerging challenges. This research uses a comparative case study approach to understand how inclusive leadership, traditional forest management, and sustainable tourism interact. The study combines qualitative data gathered from semi-structured interviews with villagers and social media content analysis. The findings emphasize that inclusive leadership is critical in resolving conflicts between local ecological knowledge, economic pressures from development, and policies imposed from above. The paper contributes to discussions on inclusive leadership, community-based natural resource management, and sustainable tourism. It also offers policy recommendations to create fairer and more environmentally responsible tourism development in culturally sensitive settings. It specifically addresses the need for legal frameworks recognizing customary rights and promoting genuine community participation in decision-making.

Abstract

This research investigates the rising incidence of "Bali Belly" (traveler's diarrhea) among Australian tourists in Bali, Indonesia, despite widespread awareness of common risk factors such as contaminated water, food, and ice. While existing literature primarily focuses on street food and lower-end establishments, this study examines the issue within a five-star luxury hotel in Ubud, Bali, revealing a concerning disconnect between perceived safety and actual hygiene practices. Through qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and participant observation, the research uncovers hidden hazards, including contaminated seafood and compromised sanitation within the hotel's food and beverage operations. The study highlights a pervasive "culture of hygiene" that transcends establishment type, suggesting that systemic issues, including long working hours, pressure to prioritize guest satisfaction over employee well-being, and inadequate incident reporting, contribute to the persistence of foodborne illness risks. The findings emphasize the need for a multi-faceted approach to address "Bali Belly," moving beyond surface-level precautions to tackle deeply ingrained cultural and operational challenges within Bali's hospitality sector.

Abstract

The hospitality industry demands graduates who not only master theoretical knowledge but also possess practical readiness and hold a positive perception of employers as an attraction in their career choice. This study aims to examine the effect of internship experience (X?) and employer branding (X?) on career intention (Y) among Hospitality students at Bali Tourism Polytechnic. A quantitative approach with a survey design was employed, involving a sample of 81 final-year students selected from a population of 484 through purposive sampling and stratified random sampling. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed via multiple linear regression. The results indicate that internship experience has a significant effect on career intention (p = 0.000 < 0.05), whereas employer branding does not exert a significant effect on career intention (p = 0.145 > 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables exert a significant influence on career intention (F-calculated = 184.30 > F-table = 3.11; p = 0.000 < 0.05). Moreover, the variables of internship experience and employer branding together account for 82.1% of the variance in students’ career intention, demonstrating that the relationship between these independent variables and career intention is very strong.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how the condition of tourism accessibility is based on the experience of People with visual impairment in Bandung City and Regency. This research employs a descriptive qualitative research design, utilizing in-depth interviews, to explore the experiences of five individuals with visual impairments during tourism activities and the obstacles they encounter. The results showed that physical aspects, such as special infrastructure, are not yet accessible, and their availability is not yet evenly distributed in every type of tourist destination. In addition, transportation and accommodation are not fully accessible for people with visual impairments. The lack of specialized infrastructure is the reason for the sector's inaccessibility. The next aspect that is already reasonably accessible is access to information; the availability of digital information can make it easier for visually impaired people to access information about tourist trips. However, visually impaired people are still constrained by social access, where many people with visual impairment still experience discrimination from staff and local communities. The solution to this problem is to increase the development of special infrastructure and provide training and education about the needs of visually impaired people. This will enable local community fund staff to create inclusive tourism.

Abstract

This study explores the evolving phenomenon of nocturnal tourism and its strategic role in revitalizing cultural and artistic expressions, with a specific focus on Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative literature review and thematic analysis, this paper synthesizes scholarly findings to develop a conceptual framework of nocturnal tourism grounded in cultural preservation, technological integration, and stakeholder engagement. The results reveal that nocturnal tourism in Asia has expanded through diverse cultural practices, nature-based attractions, and tech-enhanced experiences. Yogyakarta demonstrates high potential to adopt these trends by leveraging its rich cultural heritage, night-time traditions, and digitally literate youth. Key findings underscore the importance of community-led initiatives, adaptive spatial planning, and sustainable governance to ensure inclusive and resilient night tourism ecosystems. The study proposes a circular framework built on four pillars: cultural anchoring, tech-enabled sustainability, stakeholder inclusion, and regenerative impact metrics. This conceptual model not only highlights the cultural and socio-economic contributions of nocturnal tourism but also serves as a strategic tool for cultural cities navigating post-pandemic tourism recovery and sustainable urban development.

Abstract

Desert Point is one of the world-class surfing destinations located in West Lombok Regency. It holds great potential as a sport tourism destination. However, this potential has not been matched by adequate infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, or formal stakeholder involvement This study aims to formulate development strategies for Desert Point as a sport tourism destination using the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model, the 4A framework (Attraction, Accessibility, Amenities, Ancillary), and SWOT analysis. A descriptive qualitative method was applied, with data collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that Desert Point is currently in transition from the exploration phase to early involvement. Its attractions, especially the surfing waves and natural scenery, are already strong, but accessibility and supporting facilities remain limited. Based on the SWOT analysis, several short- and medium-term strategies were proposed, including improving access, enhancing digital promotion, providing community training, and initiating land legalization. This research provides practical insights for sport tourism development in remote areas and contributes theoretically by demonstrating the application of TALC as a sustainable destination planning tool.

Abstract

Coastal erosion at Kuta Beach, Bali, represents an increasingly intense and complex ecological crisis resulting from a combination of natural factors and human activities. The degradation of the shoreline not only impacts public infrastructure but also threatens the sustainability of social, cultural, and economic spaces of coastal communities. Previous mitigation efforts, such as beach nourishment and the construction of breakwaters, have shown limited effectiveness and have not been accompanied by community-based or adaptive technological approaches. This study aims to evaluate past responses and develop participatory and sustainable intervention strategies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were obtained through literature review, field observation, and interpretation of scientific sources. The findings reveal that addressing coastal erosion at Kuta Beach requires a collaborative action model that is not only technically driven but also strengthens disaster communication systems, public education, and tourism-friendly technologies. The proposed recommendation is the KUTA COASTAL GUARD program, which integrates technical actions, socio-cultural engagement, environmental literacy, and citizen-based monitoring. Technological supports such as the SISI application, Submerged Pneumatic Barrier, and Reef Ball are also identified as potential solutions to preserve the ecological and recreational functions of the beach. This study highlights the importance of shifting from reactive approaches toward adaptive, cross-sectoral, and replicable crisis management for other coastal areas.
