Abstract

Gelatin is a food additive that is widely used in the food, medicine and cosmetics industries. However, the source of gelatin is not only the bones and skin of halal animals such as cows and goats, but can also come from pigs. To fulfill the need for halal gelatin, it is absolutely necessary to search for other sources of halal gelatin, one of which is sea fish. This study aims to extract gelatin from the bones of sailfish as an alternative source of halal gelatin. The extraction process was carried out using an acid method, where fish bones were soaked in 3% acetic acid (1:10 w/v) for 48 hours. The resulting ossein was then washed with diluted NaOH and distilled water until the pH reached 6–7. The ossein was heated at a temperature of 80°C for 3 hours to obtain a gelatin solution. The gelatin solution was then cooled, producing a gel-like gelatin preparation with a yellowish-white color. The gelatin gel was subsequently dried in a furnace at a temperature of 40–50°C for 60 minutes. The final gelatin product was a yellow-colored powder.

Abstract

Learning is a system consisting of several interrelated components (goals, materials, methods, learning evaluation). These components must be adjusted in the process of making a learning implementation plan. Students are guided to build their knowledge independently so that they can easily master the material obtained at school and then apply their knowledge in real life.  This research aims to develop an Electronic Student Worksheet (E-LKPD) based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the human respiratory system, with a focus on improving students' critical thinking patterns at SMA Negeri 5 Tanjung Balai City. The method used in this research is the 4-D model developed by Thiagarajan, which consists of four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Dissemination. The research results showed that the developed E-LKPD received a very good feasibility assessment, with a percentage of 96.8% from material experts, 96.25% from media experts, and 96.6% from practitioner experts. From these results, it can be concluded that the PBL-based E-LKPD developed is valid, practical and effective for use in the learning process. It is hoped that this e-LKPD can increase student learning activities and help teachers convey material in a more interesting and interactive way.

Abstract

Scientific and technical advancements have intensified efforts to incorporate technological results into the teaching and learning process. As a result, new advancements in learning systems are required, such as the creation of Augmented Reality-based e-modules. In colloidal material research, Augmented Reality on an Android tablet is employed in modified Chemistry E-modules to increase student engagement and learning outcomes. The objectives of this research are to create e-modules, evaluate their use, and analyze the impact of chemistry e-modules on learning outcomes and student participation. The feasibility of e-modules is determined through the validation test of 9 validators consisting of media experts, linguists and teaching practitioners. While the e-module was tested on 3 scales, namely limited scale, medium scale and wide scale on respondents, namely grade XI students at SMA Islam Terpadu Baitul Muslim, SMA Teladan, SMA TQ Al Mannan in East Lampung Regency. Based on the research, the academic results and attention spans of grade XI pupils are impacted by chemistry e-modules with customized Augmented Reality on colloid material, A 0.005 significance level has been set. Furthermore, the N-gain value indicates a difference in the attention and learning outcomes of grade XI pupils before and after utilizing the program. Students who do not study the material through e-modules have N-gain values in the low category, while students who study the material through e-modules have N-gain in the high category. In the validation test by validators, it is known that the Aiken coefficient value (V-count) is greater than 0.8 with a very good Likert scale interpretation.

Abstract

The cingkam tree (Bischofia javanica Blume) is a type of tree that can be found in various areas of Sumatra and Java. Cingkam trees have the potential to be developed regarding biodiversity assets and the ecosystem that surrounds them. The existence of this tree is threatened due to human activities such as habitat loss, overexploitation, pollution and climate change. Therefore, conservation efforts and sustainable use of Cingkam trees are needed. This research aims to determine data on the concept of the cingkam tree as a biodiversity asset in ecological learning. This study is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. The data obtained was then analyzed using coding themes, identifying themes and drawing conclusions. The results showed that (1) cingkam trees (Bischofia javanica Blume) have unique characteristics and ecological roles, and can improve students' understanding of ecological concepts such as adaptation, symbiosis, and ecosystem services; (2) the integration of cingkam tree characteristics in learning was proven to foster greater awareness and appreciation of biodiversity conservation among students; (3) cingkam trees can make a significant contribution to ecological education to encourage students to actively participate in local biodiversity conservation efforts.

Abstract

Tris yolk is a diluent that can be used to maintain and protect spermatozoa during storage so that they can be used in the process of artificial insemination. The length of storage greatly affects the motility and viability of spermatozoa in semen. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of long storage of egg yolk tris diluent on the motility and viability of simental bovine spermatozoa. This research was carried out at the Banyumulek Artificial Insemination Center Laboratory, West Nusa Tenggara Province, from July to Desember 2024. The study of the effect of long storage of egg yolk tris diluent on the motility and viability of simental bovine spermatozoa used a randomized experimental method complete with four treatments and six repeats. Each treatment, namely P1, P2, P3, and P4, was carried out by mixing 0.075 ml of semen and 0.3 ml of egg yolk tris diluent stored for 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours. The data obtained were processed by variety analysis method (ANOVA) and Duncan's further test. The results showed that P1 treatment with a storage period of 24 hours resulted in the highest average motility and viability values of 63.33 ± 6.055 % for motility and 63.50 ± 6.892 % for spermatozoa viability. P4 treatment with a storage period of 96 hours still showed a good mean value with motility values of 40.83 ± 7.360 % and spermatozoa viability of 53.50 ± 12.112 %. Thus, egg yolk tris is suitable for use as a semen thinner for artificial insemination because it is able to maintain the motility and viability of spermatozoa even for a long time of 96 hours.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effects of temperature and Aloe vera concentration on the physicochemical and organoleptic properties of mixed mulberry (Morus alba) jam. Jam is a semi-solid fruit and sugar-based product that requires a thickening agent to achieve optimal texture. Aloe vera was selected as a natural thickening alternative due to its polysaccharide content, such as acemannan and glucomannan, which can form gels, replacing expensive and import-dependent commercial pectin. The research employed a quantitative experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), involving four treatment combinations of Aloe vera concentration (75 g and 100 g) and cooking temperature (70°C and 85°C). The parameters tested included physicochemical properties such as viscosity, fiber content, and vitamin C levels, along with organoleptic evaluations involving 25 panelists to assess viscosity and taste. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and an effectiveness test to identify the best treatment. The results showed that the combination of 100 g Aloe vera concentration and a cooking temperature of 85°C produced the best-quality jam, characterized by optimal viscosity, high fiber content, preserved vitamin C levels, and high panelist preference for viscosity and taste. This conclusion highlights the potential of Aloe vera as a cost-effective and value-added natural thickening agent for the food industry.
