Abstract

Fish farmers in Gresik Regency face significant challenges in developing aquaculture, including land conversion and extended dry seasons that lead to pond drought. Microbubble generators (MBGs) present a potential solution to these issues. This study evaluates the effectiveness of different MBG types in tilapia farming. Weekly measurements of fish mass and length were conducted to determine growth rates using direct methods. Water quality was assessed by testing COD and ammonia levels at the Gresik Regency DLH Laboratory and measuring dissolved oxygen levels directly with a DO meter. The distribution and size of the bubbles were analyzed using the shadow image technique, supported by MATLAB software. The study employed a stocking density of 100 fish/m² with three treatments: MBG swirl type, venturi type, and a conventional aerator. The findings revealed that the MBG swirl type resulted in the best fish growth and maintained water quality within the required standards. The specific growth rate in swirl-type ponds was 3.970 ± 0.014, with a survival rate of 100%. Additionally, the swirl-type MBG effectively maintained dissolved oxygen levels above 3 ppm, meeting the minimum requirement for fish survival, despite having less optimal microbubble distribution compared to the venturi type. While the MBG venturi type performed well initially, technical issues affected its bubble consistency over time. Enhancements in the venturi MBG's design are recommended to improve its performance and reliability.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of G. parviflora extract in reducing fasting blood glucose (FBS) levels and improving lipid profiles. The research design used was a laboratory experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This study was conducted from June 2024 to January 2025 in the Laboratory of Biology Study Program and Integrated Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory. Rats were divided into five groups, namely negative control, positive control (glibenclamide 5 mg/kgBB), and three treatment groups of bribil extract with doses of 400 mg/kgBB, 600 mg/kgBB, and 800 mg/kgBB. Parameters measured included GDP levels and lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, and LDL levels). Data analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA test and Tukey's Post Hoc further test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of bribil (Galinsoga parviflora) doses of 600 and 800 mg/kgBB effectively reduced GDP levels, total cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, LDL levels, and HDL levels of rats (Rattus norvegicus) T2DM model. These results indicate that bribil extract has potential as a therapeutic agent for T2DM. These findings suggested the possibility of Galinsoga parviflora extract as a DMT2 therapeutic agent.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between diet and physical activity with the nutritional status of students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. This study used a cross sectional design with a quantitative approach and analytic observational type. The subjects were 77 students of class VIII (aged 13-15 years) who were selected using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using FFQ (Food frequency Questionnaire) to assess diet and APARQ (Adolescent physical Activity Recall Questionnaire) for physical activity, both validated instruments from previous studies. As well as anthropometric measurements (height and weight) using the Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine nutritional status. The results of the analysis using the chi-square test showed that there was a significant relationship between diet and nutritional status (χ²(3) = 8.772; p = 0.032), and between physical activity and nutritional status (χ²(4) = 9.919; p = 0.042) Respondents with a good diet and moderate to vigorous physical activity tended to have normal nutritional status, while poor diet and light physical activity were more common among students with abnormal nutritional status. These findings suggest that diet and physical activity play an important role in determining the nutritional status of adolescents. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of educational intervention programs in the school environment to support healthy lifestyles and prevent nutritional problems among students.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the level of diversity of insect species in various agricultural lands in Basidondo District, Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi. The research was conducted in January-March 2025 using descriptive methods and quantitative approaches that aim to make a description or descriptive of a situation objectively using numbers. Insect sampling techniques were carried out with four types, namely pitfall trap, light trap, sweeping net, and hand collection. The insects obtained were then identified according to the taxonomic order with the help of insect determination key book, and analyzed using Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'). The results showed that there were 24 types of insect families that were successfully identified. The value of the diversity index (H') was 3.13, which was classified as high diversity. These results indicate that agricultural land in Basidondo District has environmental conditions that support the diversity of insect communities, which can contribute to the stability of agricultural ecosystems. High diversity indicates a balance between insect pests and natural enemies, as well as the role of insects as pollinators and decomposers.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the interspecies phylogenetic relationships of parrotfish (Scarus spp.) in Labean Village, Donggala Regency. The research employed an exploratory descriptive method conducted from October 2024 to March 2025. Samples were collected using a purposive sampling technique, with fishing lines and nets as the primary capture tools. The collected specimens were then identified and subjected to morphological measurements, including morphometric, meristic, and qualitative characters. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out using MVSP software with the simple matching coefficient method and UPGMA algorithm. The results revealed six identified parrotfish species: Scarus rivulatus, Scarus ovifrons, Scarus niger, Scarus tricolor, Scarus sordidus, and Scarus quoyi. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that Scarus rivulatus and Scarus quoyi exhibited the closest relationship (similarity index 0.912), whereas the most distant relationship was observed between node 4 and Scarus sordidus (similarity index 0.376). Morphological characters proved to be relatively stable in determining interspecies phylogenetic relationships among parrotfish. Therefore, the findings of this study are expected to contribute to parrotfish conservation efforts and serve as a reference for future research.
