Abstract

This literature review is a collection of several journals which aims to determine the effect of turmeric (Curcuma longa) on reducing lipid profiles, with emphasis on cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Turmeric is a daily food ingredient that is easy to find and has many good effects on the body, one of which is anti-inflammatory and anti-hypercholesterolemia. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where the total cholesterol level in the body exceeds normal and can increase the risk of atherosclerosis. Curcumin is one of the active compounds in turmeric which has the function of reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides which cause atherosclerosis and curcumin also increases the production of HDL cholesterol which helps protect against excess cholesterol accumulation which can cause heart and blood vessel disease. Based on several literature reviews, it is reported that the effectiveness of reducing cholesterol levels starts from a dose of 1000 mg - 1500 mg/day. The main aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness and safety of using turmeric as a supplement in reducing lipid profile levels in humans. Through this research, it is hoped that it can provide information regarding the effectiveness of turmeric as an effective additional therapy in managing lipid profiles.

Abstract

Indonesia has become the country with the second highest number of tuberculosis cases in the world. In 2021, Indonesia recorded an incidence of 397,377 cases, with a significant number of cases originating from Tegal, Central Java, which reported 980 cases. The purpose of this study is to determine the compliance and effectiveness of TB medication usage and to examine the relationship between compliance, effectiveness, and patient sociodemographics. The study population consists of tuberculosis patients at the Tegal Selatan Community Health Center who underwent treatment from September 2023 to February 2024. The research method is quantitative causal. Data collection was conducted both retrospectively and prospectively. Compliance data were obtained through the MMAS-8 questionnaire, and effectiveness data were gathered by recording follow-up sputum examinations using the SITB (Tuberculosis Information System) software. The study included 30 respondents, with 50% male and 50% female. The majority (63.3%) were middle-aged adults (41-60 years old), 63.3% had less than 9 years of education, 60% were employed, 93.3% had an income at or below the minimum city wage, and 70% had 1-3 family dependents. 76.7% of respondents exhibited high compliance, 20% had moderate compliance, and 3.3% had low compliance. The effectiveness of medication usage was 96.7%. Chi-square analysis (95% CI) revealed a strong correlation between compliance and effectiveness with r = 0.707 (p-value = 0.033), and there was no significant relationship between patient sociodemographics and both compliance and effectiveness.

Abstract

Caries or cavities and gum problems are the most common oral diseases in children. As many as 89% of children in Indonesia under the age of 12 suffer from oral diseases. Learning about dental health in children has received less attention, and one of the causes is the method used so far is still with lectures, children are less interested and feel bored, so learning outcomes are not optimal. This study aims to analyze the effect of dental health promotion using Pop Up Book media on knowledge and practice of preventing dental caries in elementary school students. This study used a quasi-experiment with two groups consisting of one experimental group and one control group. The results of the study on the knowledge and practice of preventing dental caries of students with Pop Up Book media for the pre test and post test showed positive students experienced an increase in student practice by using Pop Up Book media from the pre test value to the post test value. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of Pop Up Book media on students' knowledge and practice of brushing teeth in an effort to prevent dental caries.

Abstract

AI virus is a virus that is easily mutated because it has a single chain of RNA that is unstable, so many strains appear in the field. Currently in the field (in Indonesia), it is known that there are 2 vaccine strains that dominate, namely AI H5N1 Clade 2.1.3 and AI H5N1 Clade 2.3.2. The incompatibility of seed viruses used as vaccine seeds will hinder the eradication of AI disease in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to select and develop seed viruses as new vaccine seed candidates to obtain vaccines with high quality, safe, homologous, and able to cover viruses in the field. Development activities carried out by researchers aim to obtain vaccine seeds that are able to protect against AI clade 2.1.3 virus and AI clade 2.3.2 virus. The vaccine candidates to be developed are several vaccine candidates derived from the isolation of chicken organs from AI outbreak areas in several areas on the island of Java which include West Java, Central Java and East Java which were found around 2010 to 2013. These isolates are processed and then propagated on the SPF TAB and passaged until a high viral titter is obtained. After that, identification, pathogenicity, immunogenicity and protective tests were carried out. From the results of this development, AI C-8 and C-11 virus seeds were obtained which are able to protect against both AI Clade 2.1.3 and AI Clade 2.3.2.

Abstract

Microbiota is inseparable to the skin. Just as in the gastrointestinal tract, the skin microbiome reflects the health of the organ where it resides. It contributes to skin barrier function and ensures its homeostasis. However relatively stable over time, microbiome composition and number may be influenced by various aging -related changes − dryness, blemish, wrinkles and alteration of sebaceous gland activity impacting the skin ecological conditions − and vice versa. Several generations have been reported to promote the process while others may play a more protective role in this regard.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is a particular issue that requires serious attention. Adolescents tend to be more vulnerable to the influence of their surroundings, including peers and social media, which can affect their decisions regarding smoking. This study aims to explore the factors related to smoking behavior among adolescents in Indonesia. Using quantitative methods, univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted on data from 271 respondents. The findings indicate a significant relationship between individual knowledge about the dangers of smoking, individual attitudes toward smoking, social media exposure to content about the dangers of smoking, and the level of self-efficacy with smoking behavior among adolescents. These results support the importance of understanding and managing these factors in efforts to prevent and control smoking among adolescents. Strategies that include enhancing knowledge, supportive attitudes, managing social media exposure, and strengthening self-efficacy can be effective steps in reducing the prevalence of smoking behavior in the adolescent population. In this context, evidence-based approaches, such as those proposed by Lawrence Green's Theory of Behavior Change, can serve as a foundation for designing more effective interventions. Collaboration among various parties, including the government, educational institutions, and the general community, is necessary to create a supportive environment to change smoking behavior and improve adolescent health overall.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has occurred since 2020 has not ended until now. The government has made various countermeasures, one of which is accelerating the third or booster vaccine program. However, research results show that the number of people who have received the booster vaccine is still very far from the government's target. One of the reasons why the number of booster vaccine recipients is far from the target is due to people's reluctance to receive booster vaccines. Therefore, effective communication is needed to overcome this problem. Based on previous research, the fear approach is considered an effective way to promote health messages. So, this research tries to use the Extended Parallel Processing Model (EPPM) theory to see the influence of efficacy and threat messages on intentions to take a booster vaccine. The results of this study were that there was no change in intention to carry out booster vaccination in respondents who were given a high threat or a low threat.

Abstract

Hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure, measured on at least three different occasions. Hypertension is considered if systolic blood pressure is ≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is ≥90 mmHg. Currently, hypertension has become a global problem because its prevalence continues to increase from year to year. This disease can trigger other diseases such as stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and kidney disease. Obesity also has a close relationship with the occurrence of hypertension. The greater the body mass, the more blood is needed to supply oxygen and food to body tissues. In addition to pharmacological therapy, one alternative treatment that can be an option to lower blood pressure is to consume herbal plants. One of the herbal plants that can lower blood pressure is soursop leaf decoction. Patients with complaints of headaches, weakness, tension in the back of the neck, accompanied by a history of hypertension and obesity, with a diagnosis of Hypertension and Obesity are given therapy in the form of Paracetamol 500 mg 3x1 and Amlodipine 10 mg 1x1. Pharmacological interventions produced good results, namely controlled blood pressure in patients. The hypertension suffered by the patient is hypertension that is obtained due to several predisposing factors in the patient, namely age, gender, smoking habits, and obesity.

Abstract

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting the sebaceous glands, primarily caused by the growth of Propionibacterium acne. A significant natural antibacterial agent against the bacteria is Rambusa (Passiflora foetida Linn) leaves, which contain active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids/steroids. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate antibacterial activity of ethanol extract from Rambusa leaves against Propionibacterium acne growth and determine the effective concentration of test solution inhibiting bacteria growth. The leaves were subjected to extraction through the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The resulting extract was tested for antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion method. This research used three concentrations, including 10% b/v, 15% b/v, and 20% b/v. The positive control used 2 µg clindamycin disks, and the negative control used aqua pro injection. The analysis results showed that there was no clear zone area around disks containing Rambusa leaves extract at any concentration. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of leaves lacked antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne.
