Abstract

Mimosa Pudica L. is one of the plants that can be used as a traditional medicine which can be used also as analgesic and anti-inflammatory. In the studies of acute toxicity test, Mimosa Pudica L did not cause toxic. This study aimed to investigate the sub-chronic toxicity of Mimosa Pudica L to the spleen index and histology of the spleen of mice which included the observation of follicular diameter and the center of the germ. This test method referred to the OECD 407 (1995) conducted for 28 days with 7 treatment groups and consist of 1 control group , 3 treatment groups and three groups of satellites with a dose of 400 mg / kg , 600 mg / kg and 900 mg / kg. In the satellite group, there was an advance observation for 14 days without any treatment to see whether there was an effect of improvement or not. The results showed that the average value of the index spleen was getting smaller. The data were analyzed with test of homogenety of variances (levene test) showed a similarity of data variance between groups (P > 0.050). The mean value of the index spleen showed there was no significant difference between groups (P > 0.05). The highest mean value of the follicle diameter was in the negative control. Data was analyzed by non- parametric tests Kruskal - Wallis because it did not show the similarity of variance (P < 0.05). The results showed that there was no significant difference between groups (P > 0.05). The satellite group with the dose of 600 mg / kg gave the effect of improvement on the center germinal diameter. The results of the study conveniently indicated that there was no significant difference between groups (P > 0.05). The conclusion of this study was the ethanol extract of the herb Mimosa Pudica L. orally did not leave a distinct meaningful difference or did not affect the spleen index and picture spleen histology.

Abstract

Mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary glands that can cause a sharp reduction in milk production and income for farmers. Subclinical mastitis is mastitis without clinical symptoms but can result in a decrease in the quantity and quality of milk production. One of the main pathogens that cause mastitis namely Staphyloccocus aureus. S. aureus become the biggest problem of mastitis because the cure rate is classified as very low. The risk factors for the occurrence of mastitis, both clinical and subclinical mastitis, can cause a decrease in milk production caused by several factors, including genetic, feed and environmental factors. This study aims to determine the presence of subclinical mastitis in milk of dairy goats with sufferers in Siliragung District, Banyuwangi Regency. Sample testing was carried out at the SIKIA Instrument Laboratory, Airlangga University. Isolation was carried out using MSA (Mannitol Salt Agar) media for further identification consisting of Gram staining and biochemical tests. Some of the biochemical tests used are the catalase test, the coagulase test and the VP test. The results of isolation, observation of characteristics and identification of bacteria in the research that has been carried out show that 64.51% (40/62) of the samples examined were positively identified S. aureus. Results showed that the risk factors for causing subclinical mastitis included cleaning the cage, the number of lactating goats, washing hands before milking, manure and waste management, weaning age and lactation age.

Abstract

Probiotics are live microbes that are used as supplementary feed that work to increase the good bacteria that live in the digestive tract by suppressing pathogenic microorganisms in the intestine so that good bacteria can grow can optimize the feed absorption process. This study aims to determine the effect of adding probiotics as feed additive Against the height and width of the duodenal villi of the laying chicken in early production. Probiotics can nourish the digestive tract and increase nutrient digestibility so that nutrient intake is met for livestock. Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans as a prophylaxis against bacterial diseases by balancing intestinal microbes, increasing digestibility, and secreting protease, lipase, and amylase enzymes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of probiotics Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans on duodenal histomorphology. Twenty-four layers were randomly divided into 4 groups. The control group was not given probiotics, groups P1, P2, and P3 were given probiotics of 2 ml, 4 ml, and 6 ml. Probiotics were given for 14 days. One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in each group (P<0.05) and continued with the DUNCAN test. The average length and width of the duodenal villi in each treatment showed that the control group was significantly different from the P1, P2, and P3 groups. The P3 group had the highest average length of duodenal villi. The increase in villi height and villi width is due to the increase in short-chain fatty acids induced by probiotics. An increase in the height and width of villi indicates the absorption capacity of the small intestine, the work of digestive enzymes on the intestinal mucosa is more maximal in the intestine with a wider morphological size, so that absorption and growth are better. The conclusion from the research that has been done is that the use of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans as probiotics has an effect on the layer duodenal villi which is characterized by an increase in the average length of the duodenal villi according to the increase in the probiotic dose.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between factors and cases of repeated breeding in beef cattle in Klabang District, Bondowoso Regency. Beef cattle farming in Klabang District, Bondowoso Regency is currently experiencing problems in meeting the demand for beef due to low productivity. These problems occur due to cases of repeated breeding and decreased livestock efficiency and productivity. This case is suspected due to the lack of sanitation from farmers. This descriptive study used 69 cows with a simple random sampling method. Primary data was obtained from direct observation of livestock, followed by interviews with farmers using an in-depth study system. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from inseminator records which included the period of cultivation, the farmer's ability to detect the estrous cycle, and the farmer's knowledge of reproduction, housing, feeding, and copulation in beef cattle. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and then processed using SPSS 22.0. The Chi-Square test (X2) is used to determine the relationship between causative factors and repeated breeding. The results of this study indicate that the incidence of repeated breeding in Klabang District, Bondowoso Regency is 100% of the sample. All factors such as length of breeding, farmer's ability to detect estrous cycles, and farmer's knowledge about reproduction, housing, feed, age of livestock, and copulation in beef cattle correlate with the incidence of repeated breeding.
