Abstract

This case reported about mycotoxin contamination on cat feed cause gastrointestinal disorders. A 5 y.o. male domestic short hair cat (Felix domesticus) was brought to the Animal Hospital, Universitas Airlangga with a history has been lethargic and disphagia for 2 days with vomiting a yellow fluid and diarrhea. Bowel movements, increasing in panting, and urination were examined. Observation in cat with gastrointestinal disorders for 5 days in animal hospital. Abnormal intestine and hepatomegaly based on x-ray were confirmed about mycotoxin contamination on cat food. Treatment for contamination on cat food was done by given protexin like probiotic to stimulate a villi intestinal growth and gastric condition. Itraconazole for antifungal to maintanace mycotoxin contamination was also considered. Our prescription was performed for our management treatment with gastrointestinal disoders. In advice, veterinarians should be giving information about the nutritional diet for a pet animal.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the level of stability of Progesterone-retention time on Eluen Phase Mobile (EPM) solution in storage period for six, eight and 12 hours using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The research method used posttest-only control group design by using three treatments and six repetitions. The three repetitions consist into six hours, eight hours and 12 hours. The data were obtained analyzed by Summery Independent T-Test with SPSS 24 for windows. The results showed that the progesterone treatment in EPM solvents with six-hour storage (P1) and eight hours (P2) retention time progesterone are stable but the progesterone treatment in EPM solvent with 12-hour storage (P3) showed an unstable due to storage time. Besides that there are irrelevant peak which show that many pure molecular fractions are separated in the stationary phase so that the molecular structure of the substance begins to break down. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the storage time of Progesterone in Eluen Phase Mobile began to be unstable at 12 hours of storage.

The data were obtained analyzed by Summery Independent T-Test with SPSS 24 for windows. The result showed six hours retention time of Megestrole acetate is stable and eight hours treatment and 12 hours treatment are not stable there is one unstable point of 12 hours treatment that indicates the substance is break down. Based on those result, it could be concluded that the storage time of Megestrole acetate in Eluent Mobile Phase began to show unstable at eight hours of storage.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of toxic white pomegranate fruit extract (Punica granatum L) against larvae of brine shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) indicated LC50 values below 1000 µg/ml. This study is purely experimental by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). The study was divided into seven groups, namely ethanol extract of white pomegranate fruit (Punica granatum L) with a concentration of 31,25; 62,5; 125; 250; 500; 1000 µg/ml and negative control (seawater). Mortality data percentage of Artemia salina Leach analyzed by probit analysis. Results showed that the extract of white pomegranate fruit extract (Punica Granatum L) has a toxic effect with LC50 values of 248,6 µg/ml calculate from probit analysis. From these results, it can conclude that white pomegranate extract is toxic to larval shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) with Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method which means white pomegranate extract has the potential to be an anticancer drug.

Abstract

Probiotics are live microbes that are used as supplementary feed that work to increase the good bacteria that live in the digestive tract by suppressing pathogenic microorganisms in the intestine so that good bacteria can grow can optimize the feed absorption process. This study aims to determine the effect of adding probiotics as feed additive Against the height and width of the duodenal villi of the laying chicken in early production. Probiotics can nourish the digestive tract and increase nutrient digestibility so that nutrient intake is met for livestock. Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans as a prophylaxis against bacterial diseases by balancing intestinal microbes, increasing digestibility, and secreting protease, lipase, and amylase enzymes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of probiotics Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans on duodenal histomorphology. Twenty-four layers were randomly divided into 4 groups. The control group was not given probiotics, groups P1, P2, and P3 were given probiotics of 2 ml, 4 ml, and 6 ml. Probiotics were given for 14 days. One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in each group (P<0.05) and continued with the DUNCAN test. The average length and width of the duodenal villi in each treatment showed that the control group was significantly different from the P1, P2, and P3 groups. The P3 group had the highest average length of duodenal villi. The increase in villi height and villi width is due to the increase in short-chain fatty acids induced by probiotics. An increase in the height and width of villi indicates the absorption capacity of the small intestine, the work of digestive enzymes on the intestinal mucosa is more maximal in the intestine with a wider morphological size, so that absorption and growth are better. The conclusion from the research that has been done is that the use of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans as probiotics has an effect on the layer duodenal villi which is characterized by an increase in the average length of the duodenal villi according to the increase in the probiotic dose.
