Abstract

Computational thinking is one of the essential skills in 21st-century learning. However, its implementation in elementary schools remains limited, mainly due to the lack of appropriate and contextual teaching materials. This study aims to develop CS Unplugged-based teaching materials that integrate informatics and mathematics learning, particularly in the topic of fractions. The research employed the Educational Design Research (EDR) method, which consists of three stages: (1) analysis and exploration, (2) design and construction, and (3) evaluation and reflection. The developed teaching materials were validated by four experts: an informatics expert, a mathematics expert, a learning design expert, and a pedagogical expert. The validation results indicated that the teaching materials were highly feasible, with an average percentage score of 87%. Therefore, the CS Unplugged-based teaching materials are considered suitable for use in elementary schools and can serve as an alternative solution to foster students' computational thinking skills, especially in schools with limited computer facilities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Geogebra app in facilitating the discovery learning paradigm in mathematics instruction for junior high school pupils. The experimental technique is used for the investigation. Using Simple Random Sampling, 17 students from the eighth grade boys' class and 20 students from the eighth grade girls' class served as the experimental and control groups, respectively. The assessment tool used is an essay-based exam. Observation, interviews, documentation, and testing are all methods of data gathering, and a t-test is used for data analysis. The study found that compared to traditional learning models, the discovery learning model with the use of the Geogebra app had an effect size of 2.143>2.030, indicating a relationship between the two. This is due to the fact that students are motivated to actively participate in problem-solving via the exploration of their own talents, investigation of the issue, and eventual solution, all of which are supported by the discovery learning paradigm and made possible by the Geogebra program. It follows that Geogebra's discovery learning methodology affects Sunan Ampel Punggur Middle School students' performance in the classroom

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are essential for students to develop in mathematics learning. These skills involve expressing ideas, explaining problem-solving procedures, and constructing logical arguments systematically. However, observations and interviews at SMP Negeri 9 Metro revealed that students' mathematical communication skills remain low. They struggle to write mathematical models, represent problems visually, and convert contextual situations into appropriate mathematical symbols or notations. This condition is further aggravated by teacher-centered learning and using less engaging and contextual media. This study examines the effectiveness of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving students' mathematical communication skills. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The sample consisted of two eighth-grade classes selected through purposive random sampling: class VIII F, which used the LKPD before revision, and class VIII D, which used the LKPD after revision. The research instrument was a mathematical communication test, while the data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed no significant difference in students' mathematical communication skills between the classes before and after the revision of the PBL-based LKPD, with a significance value of 0.876 (> 0.05). These findings indicate that the revised LKPD has not yet fully incorporated elements that support communication skills, such as tasks promoting discussion, written and oral expression, and adequate visual representation. Therefore, future development of LKPD should integrate real-life contexts, engaging visualization, and collaborative activities to enhance students' ability to communicate mathematical ideas.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving ability of students caused by the lack of use of game media in teaching and learning activities which causes students to become bored and tired in the learning process. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the ultimate game media (snakes and ladders of mathematics) to improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in transformation material. This study uses the 4D development model (Define, Design, Development, Disseminate). This research was conducted at MTs Satu Atap Hidayatul Athfal with 14 students in class IX-1. The research instrument used was a feasibility test instrument that included validity, practicality, and effectiveness instruments. The data analysis technique used was analyzed using a descriptive percentage formula, namely V = (TSEV/S-max) x 100%. The results of the feasibility test including the material expert validity test obtained a value of 75% and the results of the media expert test obtained a value of 80.56%, so that very valid criteria were obtained. The results of the practicality test from the teacher's response obtained a value of 97% and the results of the student's response obtained a value of 81.87%, so that very practical criteria were obtained. The results of the effectiveness test by conducting a post-test to measure the increase in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities after using the Ultama game media (mathematical snakes and ladders) on the transformation material obtained a value of 92.9% with very effective criteria. Based on the results of these tests, the developed product meets the criteria of valid, very practical, and very effective so that the Ultama game media to improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities on the transformation material is worthy of use in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

This article is a narrative–systematic literature review that clarifies how financial literacy is integrated into elementary mathematics through a contextual approach. Conducted qualitatively, it synthesizes studies from 2015–2025 obtained from ERIC, DOAJ, Google Scholar, Garuda, and Sinta databases using clear inclusion and exclusion criteria. Integration targets specific areas of financial literacy such as budgeting, saving, discounts and percentages, price comparison, simple interest, and distinguishing needs from wants all mapped to number, fraction, ratio, and percentage concepts. Findings reveal that this integration enhances students' engagement, accuracy in calculating percentages or discounts, and their decision-making in financial contexts. Grounded in constructivism and the CTL framework (inquiry, modeling, questioning, learning community, reflection, and authentic assessment), this approach strengthens numeracy and financial behavior simultaneously. The contextual model provides practical, low-resource, and time-efficient learning activities relevant to students' real lives, serving as a practical foundation for curriculum development.
