Abstract

Migraine is a common neurological condition that significantly impacts the academic performance and quality of life of medical students. Anxiety disorders, often triggered by academic stress, are recognized as major contributors to the onset and exacerbation of migraine episodes. Comorbid mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression further increase migraine-related disability. This systematic review employed a qualitative meta-synthesis approach in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Relevant articles published between 2019 and 2024 were retrieved from PubMed and EBSCO databases using keywords such as “anxiety disorder,” “migraine,” and “medical students.” The selected studies were screened based on defined inclusion criteria focusing on qualitative data and mental health correlations. Five eligible studies were included in the final analysis. All studies demonstrated a significant association between anxiety and migraine among medical students. Academic stress was identified as a key contributing factor, with female students showing higher susceptibility. The coexistence of anxiety and depression was associated with increased frequency, intensity, and disability due to migraine. There is a strong correlation between anxiety disorders and migraine among medical students. This comorbidity negatively affects both academic performance and mental health. Psychological interventions and stress management strategies are essential to improve students' quality of life and academic resilience.

Abstract

Technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) have created new ways to learn anatomy, especially in medical instruction. This literature review aims to determine the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in improving student comprehension, retention, and engagement in anatomy learning. Studies published from 2017 to 2024 looked at trends, these studies were published from 2017 to 2024 and looked at trends, weaknesses, and shortcomings of these technologies. The review results indicate that AR and VR are capable of significantly enhancing the learning experience compared to conventional methods, especially through three- dimensional visualisation, interactivity, and realistic simulations. However, issues such as teacher readiness, hardware limitations, and implementation costs hinder widespread adoption. The review concludes that while AR and VR have not completely replaced traditional methods, they have great potential as effective complements in modern anatomy learning. Recommendations are provided for further research and more systematic integration strategies into medical education curricula.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease whose prevalence continues to increase every year. According to predictions from the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of diabetes sufferers in Indonesia will increase from 8.4 million in 2000 to around 21.3 million in 2030 (Widiastuti et al., 2022). Uncontrolled diabetes can cause various serious complications, such as heart disease, kidney damage, blindness, and amputation. Therefore, effective management of diabetes mellitus is very important to prevent worse health impacts. One alternative approach that is increasingly popular is the use of herbal plants, which have been shown to have the potential to lower blood glucose levels and help manage diabetes. This study aims to summarize herbal plants that have been scientifically proven to have an effect on controlling blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus. The results of this literature review are expected to provide new insights for researchers and medical practitioners in developing more natural and affordable diabetes treatments.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a significant public health problem with serious consequences for both mother and fetus. Nutritional status, level of knowledge, and adherence to iron supplementation are known to be associated with the incidence of anemia. This study aimed to evaluate hemoglobin levels, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), and maternal knowledge as indicators of anemia in pregnant women at the Naras Primary Health Center. This descriptive study employed a cross-sectional approach involving 71 pregnant women selected through consecutive sampling. Data collection included hemoglobin measurement using a hematology analyzer, MUAC measurement with a standard anthropometric tape, and structured interviews to assess knowledge level and adherence to iron tablet supplementation. The findings revealed that 52.1% of the respondents were anemic (Hb <11 g/dL), 36.6% had poor nutritional status (MUAC <23.5 cm), and 40.8% had low knowledge about anemia. Additionally, 36.6% of the respondents were non-adherent to iron tablet consumption. Anemia in pregnant women at the Naras Health Center is multifactorial and closely related to nutritional status, knowledge, and adherence to supplementation. Integrated interventions through nutrition education, regular monitoring of nutritional status, and continuous support from health workers are essential to reduce the prevalence of anemia during pregnancy.
