Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of a character education learning model based on Batak Toba cultural values in improving students’ character development and learning outcomes in elementary schools. Methods: This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach by integrating the Dick and Carey instructional design model with the Borg and Gall development procedure. The experimental design used a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design, followed by an experimental comparison between experimental and control classes. The research subjects consisted of fourth-grade students from several elementary schools in Humbang Hasundutan Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, student activity observations, learning outcome tests, and character questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality, homogeneity, and independent t-tests. Results:The results indicate that the developed learning model met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Student learning completeness increased from 61.11% in Trial I to 83.33% in Trial II, and reached 86.11% in Trial III. Statistical testing revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (t = 7.322; p < 0.05), where the experimental group achieved a higher mean score (32.42) compared to the control group (23.39). Furthermore, students’ character responses reached a positive level with an achievement rate of 85.016%. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the systematic development of a character education learning model that explicitly integrates Batak Toba cultural values particularly the Dalihan Na Tolu philosophy into a structured five-stage learning syntax: Motivation, Direction, Practice, Demonstration, and Campaign, which has been empirically proven to enhance students’ character formation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of digital learning media in increasing students' learning interest at the elementary school level, particularly in Islamic Elementary Schools (MI). The background of this study is based on the need to present a more interactive, engaging learning process that is in accordance with the developmental characteristics and life context of students. Theoretically, this study refers to the Multimedia Learning Theory proposed by Richard E. Mayer which emphasizes the importance of integrating visual and audio elements in improving learning comprehension, as well as the ARCS motivation model by John M. Keller which includes aspects of attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction in increasing students' learning motivation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observations of the learning process in the classroom, interviews with teachers and students, and visual documentation as supporting data. Data analysis was conducted to describe in depth the impact of the use of digital learning media on students' learning interest and participation. The results of the study indicate that the use of digital learning media has several positive impacts, including increased student attention during the learning process, presentation of materials that are more contextual and easy to understand, increased student courage to actively participate in learning activities, and the growth of a sense of enjoyment and motivation to learn. Digital media such as animated videos, interactive quizzes, and educational games have been proven to create more engaging and participatory learning experiences. However, the implementation of digital learning media still faces several technical challenges, such as limited supporting devices and teacher competency in utilizing learning technology. Therefore, improving teacher competency through ongoing training and providing adequate facilities and infrastructure is necessary to ensure optimal and sustainable use of digital learning media to increase student learning interest.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of emotional intelligence on students’ mathematics performance, focusing on the mediating roles of anxiety management and learning motivation. Method: A quantitative survey method was employed with 172 purposively selected vocational high school students. Research instruments were validated and tested for reliability, and data were analyzed using path analysis with SPSS 22. Results: The findings reveal that emotional intelligence does not significantly affect mathematics performance directly but has a significant indirect effect through anxiety management and learning motivation. Learning motivation emerged as the most dominant mediator, and the path model explained 74.3% of the variance in mathematics performance. Novelty: This study advances Indonesian vocational school literature by introducing a path model that explains emotional intelligence as an indirect predictor of mathematics performance through anxiety management and learning motivation. Unlike previous SMK studies that focused on direct effects using simple regression, this research provides a process-oriented explanation by simultaneously modeling multiple mediators, offering a clearer understanding of how emotional and motivational factors shape mathematics achievement.

Abstract

Objective: In the context of rapid transformation in vocational and professional education, this study aims to examine the influence of Generational Cohort on Learning-Oriented Work Commitment, with Educational Context serving as a mediating variable. Although generational differences are often assumed to shape learning behavior, empirical evidence explaining the mechanism through which these differences affect learning commitment remains limited. Method: This study employed a quantitative research design using a survey method. The sample consisted of learners enrolled in vocational and professional education programs in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS software. Results: The findings indicate that Generational Cohort has a significant effect on Educational Context, while Educational Context significantly influences affective, continuance, and normative learning commitment. Moreover, Educational Context fully mediates the relationship between Generational Cohort and all dimensions of learning-oriented work commitment, indicating that generational differences do not directly determine learning commitment but operate through contextual learning conditions. Novelty: This study offers a critical theoretical contribution by challenging the dominant assumption that generational differences directly determine learning commitment. By empirically demonstrating the full mediating role of Educational Context, this research reframes generational differences as contextual rather than deterministic factors. The findings advance educational theory by positioning Educational Context as the central mechanism through which generational characteristics are translated into learning-oriented work commitment in vocational and professional education.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify the forms of addition difficulties experienced by students with dyscalculia and examine the strategies used to overcome these obstacles. Method: A phenomenological approach was applied through semi-structured interviews, naturalistic observations, and document analysis involving high-grade students, teachers, and parents selected purposively. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, open coding, theme categorization, and member checking to ensure credibility. Results The results showed that addition difficulties arise in several aspects, including poor memory for arithmetic facts, misconceptions of place value, reliance on manipulatives, use of inefficient compensatory strategies, and high cognitive load on tiered problems. Emotional and social factors such as math anxiety and inconsistent family support also exacerbate children's obstacles. Novelty: These findings confirm that the experience of dyscalculia is multidimensional, so interventions need to include basic numerical reinforcement, cognitive load management, anxiety reduction, and ongoing collaboration between teachers and parents

Abstract

Objective: Language awareness is a key component of foreign language learning; however, it is often developed through grammar instruction presented without meaningful context, which limits learners’ ability to use language effectivelyUsing a quasi-experimental pretest–post-test control group design, 45 undergraduate students from two Indonesian universities were assigned to an experimental group receiving folk tale-based instruction and a control group receiving conventional grammar instruction over twelve 90-minute sessions. Quantitative data were collected using a standardized Language Awareness Instrument (LAI), written production tasks, and self-reflection measures, and analyzed using ANCOVA and related inferential statistics. Qualitative data from interviews and classroom observations were examined through thematic analysis. The results indicate that the experimental group achieved significantly greater gains in language awareness compared to the control group (F(1,85) = 112.34, p < .001, η² = .57). Learners exposed to folktale-based instruction demonstrated improved language use, reduced errors in writing, and enhanced awareness of language learning processes. These findings suggest that culturally grounded narrative-based instruction provides an effective and pedagogically meaningful approach to language teaching in EFL contexts.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze and test the mediating roles of value co-creation and perceived experience in the relationships between halal tourism attraction, halal tourism literacy, and revisit intention within a Service-Dominant Logic framework. Method: The study employed an explanatory quantitative design involving 270 Muslim tourists who visited halal tourism destinations in Indonesia, selected through purposive and convenience sampling. Data were collected via online questionnaires using a seven-point Likert scale and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with bootstrapping procedures. Results: The results demonstrate that both halal tourism attraction and halal tourism literacy exert significant indirect effects on revisit intention through value co-creation and perceived experience as parallel mediators. Serial mediation is also confirmed, where value co-creation precedes perceived experience in sequentially strengthening revisit intention. All measurement models show adequate validity and reliability, with substantial explanatory power (R² ranging from 0.639 to 0.735). Novelty: This study contributes the first integrated model testing both parallel and serial mediation mechanisms simultaneously in halal tourism, positioning value co-creation as an antecedent to perceived experience rather than a competing mediator. The findings offer implications for tourism education curricula, where halal literacy and SDL-based (Service-Dominant Logic) co-creation activities enhance student competencies in Muslim-friendly destination management.
