Abstract

Currently, drug delivery systems have been widely researched and developed to enable increased bioavailability by regulating drug release. One of the factors in drug release is a composite polymer which is needed as a protective matrix for the delivery system with the aim of drug stability. One of the drug delivery targets is transmucosal. This review article aims to find out the role of various polymers in transmucosal drug delivery systems. The method used for information is the results from the ScienceDirect, PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate and WoS (Web of Science) databases. The results show that CMC-Na, HPMC, chitosan, pectin, Carbopol, Acebutolol HCL, maintains the duration of the drug's residence time after the absorption process because the polymer has adhesive power.

Abstract

Inflammation is a natural response that occurs in tissue damage caused by oxidative stress. Yellow root plant is one of the plants from the Menispermaceae family that contains bioactive compounds with several potential pharmacological activities, including as anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of administration of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extract of yellow root on anti-inflammatory activity and test the most optimal anti-inflammatory activity on the type of solvent of yellow root extract (Arcangelisia flava (L.) Merr.). This study used a method of stabilizing red blood cell membranes in vitro which was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Stabilization was observed through the inhibitory ability of yellow root extract against red blood cell lysis due to the induction of a hypotonic solution which was then compared with a positive control (Ibuprofen). Results showed that n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol extracts of yellow root can stabilize red blood cell membranes. Data analysis showed significant significance that there was a significant percent difference in red blood cell membrane stabilization in the four test groups. The most optimal anti-inflammatory activity was found in yellow root n-hexane extract at a concentration of 250 ppm which was 48.76% comparable to the positive control (Ibuprofen) at a concentration of 50 ppm of 59.09%.

Abstract

Pain is a sensation that can interfere with activities and reduce the quality of life of the sufferer if left untreated and left prolonged. Senggani is one of the plants that contains flavonoid compounds and steroids that have analgesic activity. This study aimed to test the analgesic activity of senggani leaf fraction (Clidemia hirta [L] D.Don) in white mice swiss webster strain induced acetic acid and determine the fraction that most effectively produces analgesic activity. The type of research conducted is true experimental design based on Complete Randomized Design (RAL). The test animals used were 25 heads divided into 5 groups with 5 replications, namely negative control (CMC 1%), positive control (dexamethasone) and the test group of senggani leaf fraction, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol fractions. The data obtained were analyzed using an alternative test from One Way ANOVA namely Kruskal Wallis with a follow-up test post hoc Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the fraction of senggani leaves in all types of solvents had analgesic activity compared to negative controls (CMC 1%) with a significant difference (p0.05). From these results it is concluded that the senggani leaf fraction can be used as an analgesic.

Abstract

Communities around the coast of Tanjung Pakis Karawang still consume a lot of brackish water for drinking, cooking and toilet purposes. Long-term use of brackish water will have detrimental effects on health. Brackish water contains high levels of salinity, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, and mineral levels. There are various ways to improve brackish water quality so that it can be consumed, including hydrogel biosorption. This research aims to determine the level of desalination capability in brackish water, including testing temperature, pH, salinity, TDS, TSS using the green algae Spirogyra sp hydrogel, which is capable of desalination to improve water quality. This research uses a quasi-experimental method by comparing hydrogel preparations with powders and granules and using a zeolite comparison standard as a positive control. Hydrogel preparations are made with percentages of 0%, 2%, 4% and 6%. The organoleptic results showed that the hydrogel preparation had a dense texture and a distinctive odour of green algae with a dark green colour. The hydrogel preparation has a stable viscosity value in the H2 preparation, with a pH value that follows water quality standards (6.5-8.5). This hydrogel preparation has a good swelling value found in the H2 preparation. It has a high fraction value in the H4 preparation. Desalination data were analyzed using the ANOVA test. This research concludes that the green algae hydrogel preparation can desalinate brackish water based on the results of temperature, TSS and salinity tests compared with Zeolite and Hydrogel without algae in the three samples.

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a condition where an increase in one or all of the lipids in the bloodstream (plasma) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Cherry plant (Muntingia calabura L.) contains chemicals flavonoids, tannins, ascorbic acid and saponins. Traditionally it is believed to help treat various diseases, such as protecting heart muscle function, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-tumor. Potential to reduce blood cholesterol levels from the cherry plant is due to the presence of flavonoid compounds and ascorbic acid as active antioxidants that prevent LDL oxidation in the blood. This study aims to determine the potential for reducing cholesterol levels from cherry leaves in the form of fresh infusion preparations and simplicia infusion preparations, preparations given orally to male white mice (Mus musculus) whose blood cholesterol levels were previously induced by quail egg yolk feed at a dose per mouse. 73 mg (equivalent to 0.3 ml). Every day for 15 days, then the blood cholesterol level is measured using the Easy Touch GCU device. As a comparison in this study, simvastatin tablets were used. The test results for the potential to reduce blood cholesterol levels of fresh cherry leaves and their simplicia show that the infusion of fresh leaves has a stronger effect on lowering cholesterol levels than the simplicia (dry), it can be concluded that blood cholesterol levels can be reduced in the infusion of fresh cherry leaves (Average decrease cholesterol 18 mg/dl) is stronger than the simplicia (dry) infusion (average reduction in cholesterol levels 17 mg/dl).

Abstract

This research was motivated by the problem of lack of clean water around the coast of Rainbow Beach in Karawang because the water quality is poor and still brackish. Untreated brackish water poses a risk to human health if drunk for a long time and can trigger skin diseases if used for bathing. The well water taken is located in the Pelangi Coastal Area, Pedes Karawang. This research aims to test the ability of brackish water desalination using powder, granules, and three variations of green algae hydrogel. This research uses a quasi-experimental method by comparing it with zeolite as a standard for brackish water desalination. The research results show that the resulting hydrogel preparation has a solid, brittle shape, a dark green color, and a distinctive odor of green algae. The best viscosity value is in the H4 formula. All green algae hydrogel formulas have good pH values, while the best swelling ratio value is in the H2 formula, and the best gel fraction value is in the H4 formula. From the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the hydrogel, granule, and green algae powder preparations can desalinate brackish water based on the results of pH, temperature, salinity, sodium ion, and magnesium ion tests compared with zeolite, where the 6 g hydrogel preparation shows the best desalination capability of brackish water at the three well sample points

Abstract

Ketoprofen is a drug compound with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects with very low solubility. The research aims to increase the solubility of ketoprofen using the cocrystallization method. Cocrystallization was carried out using a solvent evaporation method using a tartaric acid coformer and adding the inorganic salt NaCl. Cocrystal solids were characterized using PXRD, DSC, FTIR, and SEM. The cocrystals were evaluated for their solubility and dissolution in distilled water. The characterization results show that the ketoprofen-tartaric acid-NaCl cocrystal solid is a crystalline solid with different solid properties than the solid starting materials of ketoprofen and tartaric acid. Ketoprofen-tartaric acid-NaCl cocrystals showed significantly higher ketoprofen solubility and dissolution (p<0.05) than initial ketoprofen solubility and dissolution

Abstract

Tea bags are favored by people, they are easy to make and practical. There are not many teas on the market that have the properties of lowering cholesterol and uric acid. The community has made a simple preparation of Chinese betel tea for generations. The content of Chinese betel leaves are flavonoid, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. This study aims to determine the stability of tea with accelerated testing frequency, namely organoleptic test, pH test for 3 months and hedonistic test to 24 respondents with corn sugar and without corn sugar. Making tea using oven drying. The method with an observation instrument is to make simplisia. Drying shrinkage was 7.6%. Storage of tea is carried out at room temperature 30C and gives an overview for 12 weeks the condition of the tea is still stable, this is evidenced by organoleptic tests on color, smell, and taste as well as hedonistic tests by concluding respondents. Organoleptic test results show that tea with oven drying is relatively stable at 12 weeks without any changes in color, taste and smell where the distinctive smell of Chinese betel leaves is strong, the green color is slightly brownish and the taste is typical of Chinese betel leaves. The pH test on day 21 was 4.2, day 42 was 4.5, day 63 was 4.7 and day 84 was 4.8, The pH results below 5 indicate that the tea is still suitable for consumption. Hedonistic test on 24 people obtained 100% liked tea with corn sugar.
