Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project, kidney diseases significantly contribute to the global disease burden, resulting in approximately 850,000 deaths annually and 15,010,167 cases of disability, which lead to a decline in quality of life. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis face various issues that can cause biological, psychological, social, and spiritual imbalances. Objectives: This study aims to explore the challenges families encounter when caring for patients with chronic kidney disease. Methods: Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological research approach, the study involved in-depth interviews with a sample of five validated participants. The research identified four themes: (1) loyalty in caring for CKD patients; (2) feelings of sadness and concern regarding the patient's condition; (3) emotional burden of caregiving; and (4) acceptance of the patient's condition, with a central theme of accepting the CKD patient's status. Results: The research findings revealed four themes based on data collected from participants 1 to 5: (1) commitment to caring for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), (2) feelings of sadness and concern regarding the condition of CKD patients, (3) emotional burden associated with caring for CKD patients, and (4) acceptance of the CKD patients' condition. The data analysis process, based on the interview results from each participant, will be elaborated upon according to themes, sub-themes, and categories, along with excerpts from participants' statements. Conclusions: The findings from this study, which comprise four themes, indicate that families caring for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) face various psychological challenges that, if not addressed with appropriate coping mechanisms, can adversely affect their mental health status.

Abstract

Good nutritional status is crucial to support a child's growth and development. The high prevalence of nutritional and developmental issues in toddlers is, in part, influenced by the mother's knowledge. This study aims to assess the impact of providing education using the "Teman Bunda" Pocket Book as a print media tool. This research utilized a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. The study sample included 88 respondents. The results showed that, prior to the educational intervention using the "Teman Bunda" Pocket Book, 14 respondents (16%) had poor knowledge, 32 respondents (36%) had adequate knowledge, and 42 respondents (48%) had good knowledge. After the intervention, 8 respondents (9%) still had poor knowledge, 24 respondents (27%) had adequate knowledge, and 56 respondents (64%) had good knowledge. Statistical analysis using the Marginal Homogeneity Test yielded a p-value of 0.001 < α 0.05 (p = 0.001), indicating that H0 is rejected. This confirms that the educational intervention using the "Teman Bunda" Pocket Book Print Media significantly influences mothers' knowledge regarding toddler growth and development. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the "Teman Bunda" Pocket Book Print Media has a significant positive effect on improving mothers' knowledge about toddler growth and development.

Abstract

Introduction: The rapid advancement in technology and information has significantly transformed the field of communication technology. Today, many parents intentionally give gadgets to their children, believing that these devices can serve as a distraction to keep children calm while they are at work, and to make them feel comfortable at home. However, when gadget usage is uncontrolled and used merely as a distraction tool, it may impact children's behavior and nutritional status. Objectives: This study aims to explore the effects of gadget usage habits, parenting styles, and dietary patterns on the nutritional status of children aged 4-7 years. Methods: This research uses a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population includes children aged 4-7 years who use gadgets, with a total sample size of 55 children. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square Test. Results: The findings show a significant influence of the three variables—gadget usage, dietary patterns, and parenting style—on the nutritional status of children, with a p-value of 0.00, which is less than 0.05. It can be concluded that gadget usage, parenting style, and dietary patterns significantly affect the nutritional status of children aged 4-7 years. Conclusions: There is a noticeable impact of gadget usage habits, parenting styles, and dietary patterns on the nutritional status of children aged 4-7 years.

Abstract

The understanding of Indonesian teenagers, especially in rural areas, about reproductive health is still very low, especially among teenage girls, only 10.4% of the 15-24 year old age group know about reproductive health, resulting in various reproductive health problems such as free sex, sexual harassment, dropping out of school, early marriage, pregnancy outside of marriage, and many religious marriages. The purpose of this study was to explore the description of factors affecting on reproductive health management in adolescents. The study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling strategy. There were 12 participants with the criteria, namely adolescents aged 14-18 years, receiving data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the research theme were obtained using collaizi analysis which was arranged in stages using data triangulation starting from coding, categorization, and theme formation. Based on the results of the analysis of participant information, three main themes were formulated, namely knowledge, parental support, and peers. The conclusion of this study is that factors that influence adolescent reproductive health in rural areas are knowledge factors, family support and peer support. Adolescents are expected to be able to take responsibility for maintaining their reproductive health independently, increase spirituality and be able to maintain open communication with their parents and peers.

Abstract

Introduction: Unhealthy eating habits, such as the consumption of junk food that is high in salt, sugar, and low in nutrients, can lead to nutritional deficiencies and increase the risk of early cardiovascular diseases in adolescents. Objectives: This research aims to analyze the relationship between dietary patterns and Body Mass Index (BMI) with cholesterol levels in adolescents. Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional analytical observational design. In this study, the sample used total sampling. The population of 58 respondents means that the sample taken is 58 samples. The data was analyzed using univariate analysis for the frequency distribution of BMI, dietary patterns, and cholesterol levels. The chi-square test is used in bivariate analysis to assess the relationship between diet and BMI with cholesterol levels. Results: Based on 58 respondents, the analysis using the chi-square test found that the significance level of the p-value is 0.05, as (p-value 0.464) indicates that there is no effect of BMI on cholesterol levels. Conclusions: Meanwhile, the analysis using the chi-square test on diet concerning cholesterol levels yielded a (p-value of 0.001), indicating that diet affects cholesterol levels. The research results indicate that BMI does not have a significant effect on cholesterol levels, while dietary patterns do impact cholesterol levels among adolescents. This indicates that a multifactorial approach is necessary for addressing cholesterol issues in adolescents.
