Abstract

Music is an art form that mirrors social and cultural realities. Gloria Gaynor's iconic song "I Will Survive" is recognized as a symbol of female empowerment. This study aims to investigate how linguistic features in the song portray women's strength and resistance against patriarchal norms, using Sara Mills' feminist stylistics framework. Employing qualitative textual analysis, the study focuses on identifying specific linguistic elements—such as powerful verbs, assertive pronouns, and repetition—that contribute to constructing a narrative of female independence. The findings reveal that "I Will Survive" functions as a textual act of resistance, reshaping the portrayal of women in popular media. This study contributes to feminist discourse by demonstrating how language choices in popular music challenge gender stereotypes and promote ideological empowerment.

Abstract

Character education holds a significant role in Indonesia's educational framework, particularly within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research explores the extent to which character values are embedded in the Grade VII English textbook entitled Interactive English. Despite the widespread emphasis on character education, its application in instructional materials has not been extensively examined. Employing a qualitative content analysis approach, this study concentrates on the textb.ook’s reading sections and utilizes the 18 character values defined by the Ministry of National Education as an analytical reference. The analysis reveals that, although all character values are intended to be included, their distribution throughout the textbook is inconsistent. Only 14 of the 18 character education values were identified, with “independence” being the most frequently featured. These findings underscore the importance of a more uniform integration of character values in educational content to support national educational objectives. The study suggests that enhancing the design and planning of textbooks is crucial to effectively foster character development alongside language instruction.

Abstract

This study explores the application of Relevance Theory to the pragmatic stylistic analysis of the Star Wars Original Trilogy (Episodes IV–VI). Using film transcripts as primary data, two researchers conducted a qualitative analysis of the dialogue and narrative elements. By coding for implicature, presupposition, cognitive efficiency, and audience engagement, the study reveals that the films employ subtle linguistic strategies that enhance narrative depth and foster active viewer interpretation. Notable moments—such as Darth Vader’s “Search your feelings, you know it to be true”—demonstrate how implicit meanings are skillfully embedded within the dialogue. The findings underscore the importance of indirect communication in cinematic storytelling and offer a robust framework for further research in film discourse analysis.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) plays an important role in shaping the character of students in the digital era, but many challenges are faced, including low interest and motivation of students in learning. This study aims to analyze students' needs for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based digital comic media as an innovative solution to improve IRE learning in Junior High School. Using a quantitative descriptive method, this study involved 30 students from grade VII of SMP Negeri 7 Sekayu and used a questionnaire to collect data. The results of the analysis showed that 77.3% of students had difficulty understanding material, with only 35% showing interest in the lesson. This fact is balanced by a very high interest (82.8%) in the use of digital comic media. Only 39% of students feel that learning media is currently effective, signaling the need for a more engaging approach. This research brings hope for the development of AI-based digital comic media that is interactive and relevant to students, although limited to one school and a small sample. The suggestion for future research is to involve more schools and explore various other learning mediums to improve student learning outcomes in the field of religious education.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in addressing religious disinformation in the digital era. Advances in information technology have introduced new challenges, such as the spread of negative content and the potential for radicalism, largely due to low digital literacy and a lack of ethical awareness in social media use among young people. Using a literature review method, this research analyzes various sources to identify the challenges, opportunities, and strategies for integrating IRE with digital technology. The findings highlight the urgency of digital and religious literacy to equip students with the ability to distinguish between accurate and misleading information. Key strategies include integrating digital literacy into the IRE curriculum, strengthening the role of teachers as agents of religious moderation, implementing contextual and critical learning, fostering digital ethics, and promoting collaboration among schools, parents, and online communities. The study recommends developing an adaptive IRE curriculum, enhancing teacher competence, and utilizing technology to cultivate a generation of Muslims who are religiously grounded, critical, moderate, and resilient in the face of digital disinformation.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the feasibility of laboratory facilities and infrastructure in supporting the implementation of machining practice courses in the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through direct observation, interviews, and documentation with source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The results of the study indicate that in general the lathe laboratory has met the eligibility standards according to Permendiknas No. 40 of 2008. However, there are still shortcomings such as the limited number of machines, lack of measuring instruments, and the need for regular maintenance of equipment. Laboratory facilities are considered adequate, but not yet ideal to support effective and efficient practicum activities. Therefore, an active role is needed from lecturers and faculty in evaluating, maintaining, and developing facilities. In addition, institutions are also advised to review the practicum schedule so that laboratory utilization is more optimal and equitable for all students.

The background of this research is based on the importance of multicultural education in shaping attitudes of tolerance, respect for diversity, and fostering a harmonious school environment amid students' diverse cultural, religious, and social backgrounds. This study uses a case study methodology in conjunction with a qualitative approach. Techniques for gathering data include documentation, in-depth interviews, and observation. The findings show that through instructional resources, interactive teaching techniques, and setting an example of behavior, IRE teachers actively contribute to the integration of multicultural values into the learning process. Additionally, educators support the growth of a diverse and inclusive school culture. Despite obstacles including pupils' poor comprehension of diversity and classroom time limits, overall efforts have improved students' character development by encouraging tolerance, openness, and respect for one another. As a result, Islamic Religious Education's multicultural curriculum strategically contributes to fostering social harmony in the classroom.

Abstract

This study examines the role of impromptu speaking in enhancing spontaneous communication skills among university EFL students. The research aims to identify the primary challenges students encounter during impromptu speech and the strategies they utilize before, during, and after the activity. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations involving 44 sixth-semester English major students at Universitas Jambi. Instruments included interview guides and observation checklists. The findings indicate that the main difficulties experienced by students are limited vocabulary, anxiety, poor sentence organization, and unfamiliarity with topics. To address these challenges, students employed various communication strategies, such as simplifying vocabulary, using synonyms, managing anxiety through breathing techniques, and drawing on personal experiences. Post-speech strategies involved vocabulary expansion through reading, regular practice of spontaneous speaking, and seeking peer feedback. The study concludes that despite inherent challenges, impromptu speaking is an effective tool for promoting speaking fluency, confidence, and practical communicative competence. It is recommended that EFL instructors incorporate impromptu speaking activities into their curricula, providing on-going support and strategic guidance to foster students' competence and confidence in speaking.
