Abstract

Historical legal manuscripts from peripheral regions remain underexamined in English language studies, despite their value as authentic discourse and cultural evidence. This study addresses this gap through an analysis of a nineteenth-century Bangka legal manuscript documenting a local trade transaction. Drawing on critical discourse analysis and interviews to validate the manuscript’s historical context, the study identifies salient features of legal discourse, including formulaic phrasing, performative utterances, and culturally grounded constructions of authority and legitimacy. These features demonstrate legal language as a socially situated practice shaped by local norms and institutional relations. The study further highlights pedagogical implications for English language learning, positioning historical legal texts as authentic materials for developing genre and discourse awareness, intercultural understanding, and critical reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of KKN students in teaching Islamic Religious Education in Bone Village, Segeri District, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi. This KKN program generally aims to provide direct experience to students in applying science in the community and improving the quality of learning at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) DDI Ar-Rahman Jawi-Jawi and DDI Jawi-Jawi Junior High School. In particular, this research focuses on efforts to improve students' understanding of Islam, as well as help students understand the subject matter in a more in-depth and fun way. The method of implementing KKN includes socialization with village officials, surveys and data collection of schools and students, coordination with Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers for material adjustments, as well as various learning methods, such as questions and answers, quizzes, educational games, and interesting visual media. In addition, students also use demonstration and simulation methods for worship practices such as ablution, prayer, azan, tayamum, and storytelling by telling the stories of the prophet and companions. Learning-based projects are also carried out by asking students to create simple projects such as da'wah posters or lecture videos. The results of the study show that the KKN program has succeeded in improving students' understanding of Islam, the quality of learning, and helping the teaching and learning process. In addition, this program provides real experience to students in applying science and strengthening social ties between students and society. This research contributes to developing an effective teaching model that can be applied in other villages with similar conditions.

Abstract

Expressive language skills are a crucial aspect of toddler development, because they are directly related to communication, social understanding, and learning readiness. Toddlerhood is the golden period in which appropriate stimulation significantly supports optimal language development. In Padangsidimpuan City, Zamzam water is better known as holy water consumed in the context of Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. Its use in supporting child development, especially language development, is not yet a common practice. By highlighting this local context, this study is important to open new horizons where religious beliefs can be integrated with a psycholinguistic approach to support child growth and development, including language. This study aimed to explore the practice and meaning of Zamzam water consumption by parents in supporting toddlers' expressive language skills, viewed from an Islamic and psycholinguistic perspective. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed thematically. The results showed that providing Zamzam water twice a day for three months with accompanying prayers and verbal interactions demonstrated expressive language development through simple basic vocabulary. These findings indicate that Zamzam water consumption influences toddlers' language development through aspects of family spirituality that improve the quality of verbal interactions, thereby stimulating toddlers' expressive language.

Abstract

Morphology learning in higher education is important to improve students' understanding in determining words and correct word formation. This study aims to describe the application of Project-based learning in morphology learning, material on morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The method used is descriptive qualitative which combines classroom observation methods and document analysis of learning outcomes. The research participants were 15 students from the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya, class of 2024, selected through a purposive sampling method. The project type was to identify morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The assessment used was a scored process assessment with criteria. The results of the study indicate that student learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL) are successful, this can be seen in the student's score. The use of Project-Based Learning is effective in this learning because students will contribute to each other in analyzing texts that undergo morphological and morphophonemic processes. Based on these findings, it can be suggested that the use of Project-Based Learning is effective but does not rule out the possibility of using more diverse, interactive, and fun methods. The results of this study provide an important contribution in improving learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL).

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of irony in Roald Dahl’s short story The Umbrella Man using Wayne C. Booth’s theory of irony. The study aims to examine how stable and unstable irony function as narrative strategies to construct meaning and moral criticism in the story. Employing a qualitative descriptive method and close reading, the analysis focuses on narrative events, character behavior, and dialogue that reveal ironic contrasts between appearance and reality. The findings indicate that the story predominantly employs stable irony to guide readers toward a clear moral judgment, particularly through the umbrella man’s deceptive politeness and apparent helplessness. Although the narrative presents moments of moral ambiguity, these elements do not destabilize meaning but instead reinforce the satirical critique of misplaced trust and social vulnerability. The study concludes that irony in The Umbrella Man operates as a rhetorical device that shapes reader interpretation and delivers social criticism within a seemingly simple narrative.

Abstract

This article offers a roadmap for revitalizing research culture and digital transformation for PP HIMA PERSIS for the 2025–2028 period, emphasizing that the main challenge is not merely a lack of individual skills or platforms, but rather the weak institutionalization of knowledge practices. Based on organizational learning theory and institutional perspectives, research is understood as an organizational capability that requires stable routines, output standards, quality assurance mechanisms, and documented organizational memory so that knowledge is cumulative and can be audited across management generations. Digital transformation in this framework is positioned as a governance infrastructure—repositories, revision trails, decision documentation, and workflow standardization—that enables organizations to "remember," make corrections, and improve work quality continuously, not just accelerate publication and communication. Thus, the article emphasizes the mutually reinforcing relationship between research and digitization: research requires strict governance, while governance becomes realistic when supported by a minimal but scalable digital stack. The final output is an implementable framework that directs changes in values into norms, norms into practices, and practices into systems without stifling the critical thinking that is the source of intellectual energy for HIMA PERSIS cadres in Indonesia.

Abstract

The rapid development of the digital era has significantly transformed the educational environment, including Islamic education, which faces the challenge of balancing technological advancement with the strengthening of Islamic values. An Islamic educational environment grounded in the Qur’an and Hadith plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character so that they maintain noble morals amid the dynamics of digitalization. This study aims to analyze the concepts, principles, and implementation of the Islamic educational environment from the perspective of the Qur’an and Hadith in the digital era through a case study at SMAN 1 Lawang Kidul. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consist of the school principal, Islamic Education (PAI) teachers, and students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies, and analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Islamic educational environment at SMAN 1 Lawang Kidul has integrated Qur’anic and Hadith-based values into the physical, social, and academic dimensions of the school through religious habituation programs, teacher role modeling, and the educational use of digital media. However, challenges persist, particularly regarding limited supervision of students’ use of digital technology outside formal learning activities. Overall, this study demonstrates that an Islamic educational environment rooted in the Qur’an and Hadith remains relevant and adaptive in responding to the challenges of the digital era, while also highlighting the need for more comprehensive strategies to strengthen digital ethics and supervision in public schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ understanding of inflectional morphology in articles in The Jakarta Post. Previous research generally focuses only on identifying the types and frequency of inflectional morphemes in narrative texts, thus limited studies examining students' understanding in the context of authentic news texts. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach involving 15 English Education students who had taken a Morphology course. Data were collected through written tests and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using the Spradley model. The results showed that students understood regular inflectional forms such as plural (-s/-es) and present participle (-ing) well, but experienced difficulties with irregular forms such as irregular past tense, irregular plural, and comparative and superlative. Difficulties were influenced by a lack of mastery of grammatical concepts, minimal practice in authentic texts, and limited vocabulary. These findings demonstrate the importance of integrating morphology learning with contextual text analysis to improve students’ understanding.
