Abstract

Ecoprint products generally use fabric media in their manufacture, but there are still a few ecoprint products that are made using synthetic leather media. Therefore, it is necessary to make ecoprint bags that use synthetic leather as a medium. Teak leaves and frangipani flowers function as patterns and coloring agents for the products. The purpose of this writing is to make ecoprint bags using synthetic leather as a medium, teak leaves and frangipani flowers. The methods used include mordanting activities, ecoprint processes and product manufacturing. The product produced is an ecoprint bag made from synthetic leather, the purple color comes from teak leaf dye and the yellow comes from the color and pattern of frangipani flowers. The ecoprint leather bag measures length x width x height, namely 20x5x15 cm, using 7 teak leaves and 5 frangipani flowers. The conclusion is that color pigments derived from plants can be used as natural dyes and attractive patterns on synthetic leather ecoprint media.

Abstract

Resist printing is one of the textile printing techniques that utilizes the difference in affinity between dyes and resist agents to create patterns or motifs on fabric. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of this method in producing patterns with good color fastness and optimal motif sharpness. The resist agent used is Diammonium Phosphate (DAP). Pigment dyes were chosen due to their water-insoluble characteristics, requiring an emulsion thickener to adhere to the fabric fibers. The study involves the use of varying concentrations of reactive dyes during the dyeing process and variations in the timing of alkali addition during and after the fixation process. The results of the color fastness test to washing and rubbing showed generally good outcomes and can be further improved to enhance motif clarity in the future.

Abstract

Abstract — The development of technology on Android has become a smart phone that can be accessed in the palm of your hand. Likewise in measuring the color of an image easily with the colorimetry application on an Android smartphone. In this colorimetric measurement using the Polimedia calendar case study for 2023. The working principle of the colorimeter is to measure the color of an object through three components, namely a light source, a light filter and a photoelectric detector. Each color has its own tristimulus value that distinguishes it from other colors. The colorimeter provides measurements that can be correlated with human eye-brain perception and provides real-time tristimulus (L, a, and b) values. The application of the colorimetry method to detect the dominant color of an image is quite fast in its detection. Consists of the colors Red, Green, and Blue (RGB). Broadly speaking, there are 3 colors used in the Polimedia calendar for 2023, namely scarlet violet (R: 57; G: 41; B: 103), silver (R: 189 G: 192 B: 199), (R: 185 G: 188 B:203), (R:190 G:197 B:215), (R:185 G:191 B:205), (R:190 G:198 B:211), (R:193 G:197 B : 209), Light Steel Blue (R: 190 G: 197 B: 215), (R: 190 G: 197 B: 215), (R: 185 G: 190 B: 209), (R: 192 G: 199 B: 217), (R: 187 G: 194 B: 212), (R: 190 G: 195 B: 214). Overall, the appearance of the 2023 Polimedia calendar is harmonious and balanced. There is overlap between design elements but does not provide significant interference. Typography has high legibility. Keywords: colorimetry, analysis, color, smartphone, android.

Abstract

This research aims to characterize the optical properties of bioplastic packaging based on a mixture of cassava starch and lead acetate as an alternative material for X-ray radiation protection. The experimental method was used by varying the composition of a mixture of cassava starch and lead acetate in ratios of 100:0, 70:30, 65:35, 60:40, 55:45, 50:50, and 45:55. Optical characterization was carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry to measure the absorbance, reflectance and transmittance of the sample. The results show that samples with higher lead acetate concentrations have greater absorbance, especially in the UV range, as well as lower transmittance throughout the spectrum. Samples with ratios of 45:55 and 50:50 (cassava starch:lead acetate) showed the best potential as radiation shielding due to high absorbance and low transparency. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of the optical properties of a mixture of cassava starch and lead acetate, enabling composition optimization for specific applications in X-ray radiation protection.

Abstract

The packaging design process for SMEs is often not a primary priority. As a result, business owners frequently overlook the branding process. Therefore, the design of this packaging is necessary as an effort to rebrand their products to increase their recognition. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing interviews and literature reviews. Through the processes of recopy, recolor, and relayout, a redesign is carried out for products that previously had existing designs. The results show that recopy effectively communicates the message, recolor enhances the product's visual appeal, and relayout gives the packaging a more premium appearance, enabling SMEs to elevate their market position. This packaging design process is not merely about changing the appearance but is also a message construction process through words, colors, and layouts that can leave a lasting impression on consumers' minds.

Abstract

The use of kenaf fiber as an eco-friendly textile material faces challenges in the dye printing process, particularly due to its limited dye absorption. This study aims to investigate and optimize various pre-treatment methods on handloom kenaf fabrics for reactive dye printing. A laboratory-based factorial design was employed, testing four pre-treatment variations: untreated, scouring, bleaching, and a combination of scouring and bleaching. Evaluations focused on color fastness to washing, rubbing, and perspiration, following national and international testing standards. Results indicated that single bleaching treatment yielded the most optimal print outcomes, characterized by bright, uniform colors and superior fastness properties, especially under dry rubbing and washing. The combined scouring-bleaching method produced inconsistent results, likely due to fiber degradation caused by over-treatment. It is concluded that single-step bleaching is the most effective pre-treatment for reactive dye printing on handloom kenaf fabrics. This research contributes to the advancement of sustainable textile processing based on natural fibers.

Abstract

In the flexible packaging industry, the quality of lamination results significantly affects both the appeal and protective function of the product. One common issue in the dry lamination process is lamination wrinkle defects, which can reduce the packaging quality standards. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in tension parameters in the dry lamination machine—specifically the tension in Unwinder 1, Unwinder 2, and the Laminator—on the print quality of snack packaging. The research was conducted using a quantitative experimental approach at PT XXX, involving 64 samples with varied tension settings and quality testing through laboratory tests (sealing strength, bonding strength, and dry glue) as well as visual inspections. The Pearson correlation test results indicated a weak to very weak relationship between tension parameters and laboratory test outcomes. The Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test showed no significant differences in lamination quality based on tension variation. However, the Spearman correlation test for visual defects revealed a strong correlation between Laminator tension and the occurrence of lamination wrinkles and shrinkage patterns. Therefore, controlling the tension parameters—especially at the Laminator—is essential in reducing visual defects during the dry lamination process.

Abstract

The packaging industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, especially in production cost efficiency. One of the important stages is the lamination process, which is the incorporation of the printing film and sealing film using adhesive. Solvent-free lamination technology emerged as an environmentally friendly alternative because it does not use solvents. This study uses a quantitative method to analyze the impact of technology change from solvent base to solvent free on cost efficiency. The results showed that laminates with 15 micron Nylon and 85 micron LLDPE C8 still produced bonding strength in accordance with industry standards. Solvent-free technology is more efficient because it does not require a drying chamber, so energy consumption is lower. Although there is still a small amount of solvent residue, it is still cleaner and more economical to use. Substitution to this technology shows great potential in reducing production costs without compromising product quality. Therefore, solvent free is an environmentally friendly and efficient solution for the flexible packaging industry in Indonesia.
