Abstract

This research is motivated by the observation results, that the learning process is in the eyes English lessons at MA Daarul Karomah grade 10 have so far been less effective, because learning is still centered on the teacher and currently the teaching and learning process is teacher only using the lecture method and without using learning media. This study aims to (1) describe the book development procedure pocket book, (2) knowing the validity of the pocket book development, (3) knowing the effectiveness development of pocket books as a media for learning English in class 10 of MA Daarul Karomah. This study uses Research and Development (R&D). This research uses the Borg and Gall model development. This model was developed by Borg and Gall and has 10 stages and is modified using only 6 stages (research and data collection, planning, develop the product, expert validation, product revision and final product). At the Development stage, the Grammar pocket book is assessed for its feasibility by material expert, media expert. Learning media validation results the very valid category was obtained with a percentage of 91% by material experts and 90% by media experts. It can be concluded that research on the development of pocket book as grammar learning media is stated to be very strong whether used as supporting teaching materials.

Abstract

Writing involves textual tasks like formulating and structuring ideas into sentences, encompassing idea creation, organization, drafting, and revision. In this context, the utilization of scrapbooks as a teaching aid for writing has yielded positive results, introducing a novel method for writing instruction. This practice not only improves students' recount text abilities but also highlights the versatility of scrapbooks in catering to multiple skills, as revealed by the interview results—spanning both writing and speaking instruction. Embracing scrapbooks in education holds the potential to foster holistic language development and effective communication skills, thereby enriching the learning experience across various linguistic domains. In this research, the researcher used qualitative with case studied approach.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students' interest in English, especially speaking skills and to find out the reasons why students are not interested in rural areas. The benefit of this research is that students in rural areas can be more aware of how important English is, and keep the spirit of learning even though the school condition is still not sufficient in terms of facilities and infrastructure. The method in this study uses a qualitative method which in this study uses a questionnaire and interviews to obtain data which in this study involves several tenth grade (X) and eleventh grade (XI) students who have been recommended by the teacher as samples. The results of this study are students in rural areas tend not to be interested in English because there are several factors and weaknesses that exist in schools and in individual students themselves.

Abstract

Writing serves as a reflective practice. Beside, Writing acts as a self-assessment tool, enabling students to evaluate their own language performance and progress. This constructive feedback loop not only fosters a deeper understanding of language nuances but also motivates students to actively work towards refining their writing skills. In essence, writing becomes a dynamic and introspective exercise that contributes significantly to the continuous development of students' language abilities. Google Classroom as an alternative facilitates to motivate students write. Students can write and do assignments through digital/online applications (Google classroom) such as documents, presentations and educational videos, and share student learning experiences. Google Classroom introduces an innovative resolution for educators by simplifying the monitoring of online assignments. This platform provides a transformative solution, streamlining the process for teachers. Through this tool, educators can efficiently oversee and track students' assignments in the digital realm. It revolutionizes traditional teaching methods by offering a seamless interface that enhances the overall experience of managing assignments. This technological advancement empowers teachers to monitor progress in real-time, allowing for more personalized instruction and timely feedback

Abstract

Nowdays, people speak more than one language as multilingual or bilingual. Mostly, Indonesian people usually use Indonesian and English to speak with others in their daily life. This research deals with a study of code mixing used by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Hotman Paris Show. The research problem are how code mixing used by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Hotman Paris Show and what types of code mixing used by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Hotman Paris Show . The objective of this study are to know the code mixing and the types of code mixing used by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Hotman Paris Show. This research use descriptive qualitative method. There are some ways to collect the data. The data collection used are audiovisual materials and documents. The data were collected then analyzed through organizing data, transcribing data and analyzing by hand. This research was found that there are two types of code mixing used by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Hotman Paris Show those are: Insertion code mixing and alternation code mixing. But, the dominant code mixing used is insertion code mixing. Then, the researcher conclude that the data discovered there are 92 data of code mixing. It can be inferred that the highest number of code mixing was insertion which attain 51 data. Meanwhile, code mixing of alternation are 41 data

Abstract

Speaking is a skill of comprehending the meaning to pronounce something fluently and accurately. In EFL learning, many students must know pronunciation grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension. the teacher do many ways and many learning methods to improve their students' speaking skills. this study aims to describe the strategy of using YouTube to improve speaking skill and to describe the result of using YouTube to improve speaking skill. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with field notes observation and interview documentation to obtain data. The informants used purposive sampling with the category of students being the most able to speak in class, resulting seven English students at the SMAN 3 Sampang as the sample. The results of this study could conclude students were very enthusiastic and pleased in using Youtube as a media to improve talks and strategies for the use of YouTube media to improve students’ speaking skills to fit with YouTube media.

Abstract

Writing is one of important skill in language learning, which needs extra attention to be mastery and desired proficiency. In fact, this skill is still minimally touched, especially for teaching writing using media.Thisstudy is aimed to find the effectiveness using card sort as media in teaching writing at SMP Maarif 10 Pamekasan. Card sort is alternative media for assist students in teaching writing. This research method is a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The results found that in the experimental class the proportion score was higher than in the control class. There is a significant effect of the use of card sort as media in teaching writing. It can be concluded that there is a difference in the average score of students’ writing ability scores between teacher teaches writing with card sort and teacher teaches writing without card sort. The main thing is increasing students writing skills because writing paragraph using card sort media can attract students’ enthusiasm for learning.

Abstract

Language is a means of communication among individuals and it also brings them into relationships with their culture. Even the English language as foreign language involving culture. The result all languages are equally complex because every language is part of the culture that produces it and it is adequate for the needs of the people who use it. Any language, therefore, is as good as any others because it serves the purposes of the particular culture. Seeing this, this paper aims at describing about the important of culture in teaching and learning English in the foreign language classroom. It is hoped that the students realize to have socio-cultural competence with the teacher’s help, with the hope, he wishes, not only to teach linguistics (grammar/ structure, pronunciation, etc.) but also sociolinguistics (social and culture). It is very essential to avoid misunderstanding, justification or ‘shock culture’ so that they can communicate with any English men well.

Abstract

This study attempts to discover the models of students' anxiousness. This is a qualitative study conducted utilizing a descriptive case study. The study's participants are English Department students. Observation and interviews with students were performed to get information about the models and elements driving their worry. The study's findings show that pupils encounter two types of Nervousness models: interference and deficiency models. Interference models are more powerful than deficit models. Their English talents become the second determining element. Students seldom feel nervous when conversing with their classmates. When they are around their friends, they are able to communicate in English naturally and without concern.

Abstract

Semantics is a sub discipline of linguistics which focuses on the study of meaning. The present study analyzes about semantics analysis especially on the lexical meaning and contextual meaning. The lexical meaning is to be interpreted as the meaning of lexemes depending on the meaning of sentences which they occur.lexical meaning is the meaning of the word when the word is seen separately, either in form or form a lexeme affix whose meaning is more or less fixed, as can be read in a certain passage dictionary. Contextual meaning could be regarded as a situational meaning. It arised as a result of the relationship between speech and context. It took the form of a lot of things. This study aim to describe lexical and contextual meaning. This study is uses descriptive qualitative method. The informants used data source, data collection, and data analysis.get a short strory about this song and they are known about the theme of this song.
