Abstract

The development of a Family Medicinal Plant (TOGA) garden was carried out as part of the Community Service Program (KKN) in Rahabite Village, Toari District, Kolaka Regency. The activity was motivated by former community farmland that was no longer well maintained and had not been optimally utilized. It aimed to transform the land into a cleaner, more organized, and functional TOGA garden. Activities were conducted gradually through land clearing, plant arrangement, fence construction and painting, and improvement of the entrance and rainwater drainage. The activity involved KKN students, the village government, and the Head of Hamlet I as the landowner and provider of additional seedlings. The results showed that the neglected land was transformed into a cleaner and more organized TOGA garden ready for further community development and maintenance.

Abstract

Recurrent forest and land fires during the dry season in South Sumatra produce haze that degrades air quality and increases the risk of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) among the public. This community service program aimed to provide early protection against fire smoke exposure while raising campus community awareness of the importance of wearing masks as a preventive measure. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving lecturers and students of the Biology Education Student Association (HMPS) of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang through the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The activity took place on August 31, 2026, in the UIN Raden Fatah Palembang campus area. The results show that the team prepared 150 mask packages, each containing three masks, and distributed them to students, lecturers, administrative staff, and residents active around the campus. Beyond direct assistance, the distribution also served as a medium for education on the dangers of fire smoke and the importance of maintaining respiratory health. This program represents a tangible first step in supporting promotive and preventive efforts against haze-related ARI, although it should be followed by more structured education and measurable impact evaluation.

Abstract

Livestock farming in Bahal Batu I Village, Siborongborong District, North Tapanuli Regency is still largely managed traditionally and by free grazing, so it has not optimally supported animal protein needs or household income. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of the community regarding environmentally friendly semi-organic livestock farming while cultivating the values of theopreneurship and ecotheology. The activity was carried out by the Master of Theology Study Program of the State Christian Institute of Tarutung on 13 August 2025 at the GKI Sumut Building in Bahal Batu I Village, using a community education method consisting of extension, a resource person presentation, and a question and answer discussion attended by 25 participants from lecturers, students, and villagers. The results show increased understanding of semi-organic livestock practices, growing ecotheological awareness in caring for the environment, and stronger partnership between the university and the village community as capital for developing sustainable livestock enterprises.

Abstract

Local taxes are an important source of revenue for local governments in supporting governance and development. The diversity of community business activities means that the types of taxes associated with each business may vary, making an understanding of tax obligations important for business owners. This community service activity aimed to provide education on local taxes to business owners in Palangka Raya through direct information delivery. The education was conducted through visits to registered business owners whose businesses had been classified based on their tax potential in several urban villages. The information provided included the types of taxes related to business activities and tax obligations based on the characteristics of each business. Data were obtained through documentation, visit notes, and interactions during the educational activities. The results showed that the targeted businesses had diverse types and characteristics, resulting in different tax potentials. Direct education serves as an approach to delivering tax information to the community in a simple and contextual manner.

Abstract

Used cooking oil is household waste generated from the repeated use of cooking oil. Improper disposal of used cooking oil can pollute the environment, clog drainage systems, and reduce water and soil quality. One way to manage used cooking oil waste is to utilize it as a useful product, such as aromatherapy candles. The JELITA program (Jelantah Jadi Lilin Aromaterapi) aimed to provide education and skills to residents of RT 07, Sendang Village, Bringin District, in processing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles. The activity was conducted participatively through three stages: socialization, demonstration of aromatherapy candle production, and evaluation. The production process included purification using wood charcoal, mixing with stearic acid, adding lavender essential oil, and molding the candles. The results showed increased knowledge, environmental awareness, and skills among participants in processing used cooking oil into useful products.

Abstract

Timbala Village has considerable potential for local coconut production, but its utilization remains limited to processing coconuts into copra and conventional coconut oil. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the community in processing local coconuts into Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and to increase the added value of coconut as a potential household business opportunity. The methods used included community education, demonstration, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The VCO production process involved grating coconut, adding water at a ratio of 1:2, pressing and filtering coconut milk, settling for 2 hours, separating the cream layer, further settling for 24 hours, and filtering the oil using filter paper. The results showed that the community gained practical knowledge and experience in producing VCO and understood the potential for developing local coconut into a value-added product. This activity is important as an initial step in developing coconut-based products utilizing local resources in Timbala Village.

Abstract

Fish waste and household organic waste are often disposed of directly into the environment, causing unpleasant odors, pollution, and a decline in environmental quality. In fact, these wastes still contain valuable nutrients that can be utilized, one of which is by processing them into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). This community service program was conducted in Kampung Pulau Village, Rengat District, Indragiri Hulu Regency through socialization and demonstration activities on the production of LOF from fish waste using EM4 and molasses as fermentation agents. The program began with an observation of the village's local potential, followed by educational sessions, hands-on demonstrations of LOF production, and discussions with community members. The results showed that the participants responded positively and actively participated throughout the activities. They not only gained knowledge about the benefits of fish waste but also understood the procedures for producing and applying LOF to plants. Converting fish waste into liquid organic fertilizer offers an environmentally friendly alternative for waste management while providing added value to the community. This program is expected to encourage local communities to make better use of available resources in a more productive and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Coconut husk is one of the agricultural wastes that is abundantly available and often remains underutilized. However, coconut husk contains organic matter and nutrients that have the potential to be used as a raw material for liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). This study aims to investigate the utilization of coconut husk as a basic material for producing liquid organic fertilizer and to determine the potential of the resulting fertilizer to support plant growth. The method involves collecting and chopping coconut husk, followed by a fermentation process using additional materials such as water, sugar or molasses, and microbial activators. The fermentation process is carried out for a certain period until a liquid organic fertilizer solution is obtained and ready for application. The utilization of coconut husk as liquid organic fertilizer is expected to reduce organic waste while producing an environmentally friendly and beneficial fertilizer for plants. This processing method can also serve as an alternative approach to supporting sustainable agriculture by utilizing locally available resources.
