Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of school operational management and transformational leadership of the principal on the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of elementary school teachers in Sail District. PCK is a key element in teacher professionalism that reflects the ability to integrate pedagogical knowledge with open materials to create effective learning experiences. School operational management plays a role in creating a conducive environment for the development of teacher professionalism, while the transformational leadership of the principal provides inspiration, motivation, and support for improving teacher competence. This study uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis methods. The results showed that school operational management had a significant effect on teacher PCK with a regression coefficient value of β = 0.412, p <0.05. The transformational leadership of the principal also had a significant effect on teacher PCK with a value of β = 0.378, p <0.05. Simultaneously, both variables contribute to teacher PCK with a determination coefficient value of R² = 0.621, indicating that 62.1% of teacher PCK variability can be explained by school operational management and principal transformational leadership. The implication of this study is the importance of strengthening the operational management system and principal transformational leadership in improving the quality of learning in elementary schools. Therefore, schools need to implement effective managerial strategies and visionary leadership to optimize teacher competence in teaching.

Abstract

Geography learning requires appropriate media to concretize abstract concepts, such as the distribution of flora and fauna in Indonesia, which varies significantly across the archipelago. Conventional maps commonly used in schools often lack the flexibility and interactivity needed to present geospatial information effectively and dynamically. Therefore, this study aims to develop an interactive map-based learning media to enhance students’ understanding of the distribution of Indonesian flora and fauna in Senior High School geography subjects. The study applies a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The interactive map was designed using base maps derived from thematic data, combined with digital or satellite imagery, to produce a more comprehensive and engaging geospatial visualization. Features of the media include layers of flora and fauna distribution, geographic characteristics, interactive videos, quizzes, learning materials, and lesson plans. The media is also supported by clear icons, appropriate cartographic symbols, and color gradations based on cartographic principles to improve readability and spatial interpretation. The developed media was tested on students at SMAN 1 Penebel, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Validation results from content, language, and media experts indicated a very high level of validity. In addition, practicality assessments by teachers and students showed that the media is easy to use and effective in classroom settings. Pre-test and post-test comparisons revealed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, with an average post-test score increase of 28.75 points. These results suggest that interactive map media can significantly enhance the effectiveness of geography learning.

Abstract

The term “men written by women” which is a new terminology on the social media platforms namely Tiktok, has sparked conversations revolving on what masculinity is. Peeta Mellark from Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games trilogy becomes the embodiment of the "men written by women" trope on social media. “Men written by women” can be considered as a product of the “female gaze”, in opposite of the “male gaze”. The female gaze allows and empowers women writers to challenge and subvert the imposed limitations by the traditional “male gaze” thus resulting in the creation of male characters who defy expectations of the traditional “masculine hero” archetype. This research will examine Peeta Mellark from Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games trilogy through a feminist lens, utilizing Connell’s Critical Masculinity Studies, specifically the concept of non-hegemonic masculinity as the primary framework. In addition, this research will examine how Peeta's traits and behaviors which symbolizes the departure from hegemonic masculinity along with the global success of The Hunger games franchise has contributed to the widespread of the “men written by women” trope. The worldwide trend of “men written by women” has enabled women’s agency to redefine on what masculinity is.

Abstract

This research examines the portrayal of masculinity in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022), emphasizing on how Jeffrey Dahmer performs hegemonic masculine traits despite his marginalized sexual identity. Using a qualitative textual analysis method, this research applies R.W. Connell’s theory of hegemonic masculinity and Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity to analyze key scenes depicting Dahmer’s criminal acts. This study found that Dahmer consistently embodies hegemonic masculine traits, such as domination, control, and power, as well as the objectification of the others. His murdering acts are not isolated events, but rather ritualized performances that reaffirm masculine dominance through repeated acts of violence. Despite his queerness puts him outside the heteronormative masculinity, it does not subvert the patriarchal structure, in fact, it coexists with it through his acts. This study highlights the adaptability of hegemonic masculinity across different heteronormative sexual identities and challenges the assumption that queerness inherently resists dominant gender norms. The implications extend to the fields of gender studies, media studies, true crime narratives, and criminology studies, urging scholars and audiences to reconsider the intersection of queerness, race, and masculinity in representation of crime narrative. Future research is encouraged to explore further on the audiences’ reception toward perpetrators across diverse identity and cultural context.

Abstract

This research explored the portrayal of shared grief and communal healing in Ari Aster’s film “Midsommar”, focusing on the “Harga” community’s rituals through the lenses of Emile Durkheim’s functionalism and Ferdinand de Saussure’s visual-semiotic theory. The research investigates how these rituals foster a “symbiotic sisterhood” and facilitate the protagonist Dani’s transformation from isolation to belonging. Using qualitative visual-semiotic analysis, the study decodes the film’s symbolic imagery, communal ceremonies, and structured cultural practices. The findings reveal that the Harga's ritualistic expressions of grief—such as the Attestupa and communal crying—serve not only as mechanisms for emotional release but also reinforce social cohesion, mirroring Durkheim’s theory of collective effervescence and organic solidarity. Dani’s participation in these rites catalyzes her psychological recovery from trauma, positioning the Harga women as a therapeutic support system. The study concludes that “Midsommar” subverts traditional Western notions of solitary mourning by presenting grief as a collective, functional force that forges identity, solidarity, and empowerment within a closed communal structure. This analysis contributes to broader discussions on how horror films visualize trauma, ritual, and gendered communal bonds in popular culture.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between teacher performance and innovation in learning media and identify emerging research trends. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study examines 500 articles from the Scopus database. It employs a bibliometric approach with VOSviewer to map concept relationships, publication patterns, and research gaps. The findings indicate that innovations in learning media, such as blended learning, digital technology, and interactive methods, significantly enhance teaching effectiveness and teacher motivation. Additionally, publication trends have shown a significant increase since 2019, reflecting growing academic interest in this topic, particularly in developed countries such as Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as in developing nations like Indonesia and Malaysia. The main limitation of this study is that it exclusively relies on data from the Scopus database, thus excluding studies from other sources. Future research is recommended to explore the implementation of learning innovations in various educational contexts further and conduct a more in-depth analysis of the factors influencing their success.

Abstract

Globalisation has led to significant changes in the use of regional languages and local cultural identities, particularly in Indonesia, a country renowned for its linguistic and cultural diversity. This study aimed to analyse the impact of globalisation on the decline in regional language use, identify the factors influencing the shift in local cultural identity, and explore adaptive strategies to preserve language and culture in the digital era. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature analysis method, this research examines various academic journals, books, and research reports published within the past decade. The findings indicate that globalisation has significantly contributed to the decline in the number of regional language speakers, with Indonesian and foreign languages increasingly dominating daily communication. Furthermore, global culture, disseminated through social media and the entertainment industry, has shifted young people’s interest away from local traditions. However, this study also highlights the potential of social media as a tool for revitalising local languages and cultures, with various digital initiatives successfully raising public awareness of cultural preservation. Strategies to sustain local language and culture include integrating regional languages into education, utilising digital technology, implementing government policies, promoting cultural awareness campaigns, and fostering collaboration with the creative industries. Nevertheless, this study has limitations, as it does not incorporate direct field data. Therefore, future research is recommended to adopt ethnographic approaches and quantitative analysis to measure the long-term effectiveness of digital strategies. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers, educators, and cultural communities in formulating strategies to safeguard local languages and cultural heritage amidst the pressures of globalisation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of conflict management and professional ethics on teacher job satisfaction at Muhammadiyah Schools in Bangkinang. The research is motivated by the importance of fostering a harmonious and professional work environment to enhance teacher performance and commitment. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a survey method and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings reveal that both conflict management and professional ethics have a significant and positive impact on job satisfaction. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.569 indicates that 56.9% of the variation in job satisfaction is explained by these two variables. Both independently and jointly, they contribute substantially to building a productive and supportive teaching environment. These results affirm that effective conflict management strategies and the consistent application of professional ethics are critical factors in fostering job satisfaction. The integration of these elements enhances morale, reduces potential conflict, and strengthens relationships among educators, ultimately improving the quality of education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the democratic leadership style of the principal at SD Negeri 012 Naumbai, identify the causes of the lack of teacher participation in decision-making, and analyze the implications of the implementation of this leadership style on the level of teacher participation. In this study, the approach used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were then analyzed through three stages: data collection, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the principal at SD Negeri 012 Naumbai has implemented a democratic leadership style well and consistently. The principal actively involves teachers and education personnel in the decision-making process through deliberation and open discussion, providing space for teachers to express their opinions and ideas. Thus, the principal positions teachers as working partners who have an important role in the progress of the school, which creates a more open, participatory, and harmonious working atmosphere. This is more due to internal factors such as previous work habits that tend to be more hierarchical, limited experience in decision-making, and lack of initiative from the teachers themselves, not because of the lack of support or opportunity from the principal. The implications of the implementation of democratic leadership, although not yet fully optimal, show a positive impact on the work climate in schools. Gradually, teacher participation in decision-making increases, which leads to an increased sense of shared responsibility, team cohesion, and more effective implementation of school programs. The school environment also becomes more open and collaborative, supporting the creation of healthy school management that is oriented towards mutual progress.
