Abstract

Education is essential for human development and the progress of the Indonesian nation in various fields, including science. An effective school principal must view the school as a unique entity and fulfill their leadership role adeptly. Teachers are crucial to education quality, and elements like transformational leadership, work environment, and commitment significantly enhance their performance. Transformational leadership inspires and empowers educators, fostering a supportive work atmosphere that boosts their satisfaction and motivation. High levels of teacher commitment, shown through dedication to educational activities, also improve performance. This study uses a quantitative survey method conducted in State Junior High Schools in Cilegon, with a sample of 85 teachers selected from a population of 546. The findings highlight the importance of effective transformational leadership by principals in enhancing organizational commitment within schools. Furthermore, the significant direct influence of the principal's transformational leadership on teacher performance at SMPN in Cilegon indicates that enhancing the principal's transformational leadership is crucial for improving teacher performance. Lastly, the significant direct effect of the work environment on teacher performance at SMPN in Cilegon further emphasizes the importance of a supportive work environment.

Abstract

Students' competitiveness can be increased through various ways such as studying effectively, developing social and emotional skills, and participating in extracurricular activities. The emphasis on increasing students' competitiveness is expected to help them to become successful and competent individuals in their future lives. This research aims to examine the influence of teacher performance on student competitiveness in State Junior High Schools (SMPN) in Cilegon City, with achievement motivation, student achievement and student absorption as intervening variables. The approach used is quantitative with a survey type, collecting data through questionnaires from 546 teachers at State Middle Schools in Cilegon City. The sampling technique was proportional stratified random sampling, with a sample size of 85 based on the Slovin formula with an error rate of 10%. Data analysis was carried out using inferential statistics using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 approach. The results of the research show that teacher performance (X) from the results of the multiple linear regression test can be seen that the t-count (t-stat) value for the teacher performance variable is 5.165, where this value is greater than the t table, namely 1.66412 with a significance level of 0.05 (α = 5%) and degree of freedom (df) = 80. These results indicate that directly the teacher performance variable has a significant influence on competitiveness (Z) of 0.442. Meanwhile, the statistical test value on the Sobel test is 2,428 and the p-value or Sig value. is 0.015, where the p-value is smaller than the significance level of 0.05 (α= 5%), so it can be concluded that the variable absorption capacity (Y3) is significantly able to mediate the teacher performance variable (X) on competitiveness (Z). The conclusion of this research is that teacher performance directly has a significant influence on student competitiveness, and teacher performance has an influence on competitiveness with absorptive capacity as an intervening variable.

Abstract

This study explores Ruang Guru Clash of Champion (COC) as an edutainment phenomenon in the digital education landscape. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research analyzes how COC integrates education and entertainment through the concept of edutainment. Data were collected from 15 videos published on Ruang Guru's official YouTube channel and analyzed using Saussure's theory of signification, which includes elements of the signifier and the signified. The findings indicate that COC comply to edutainment principles by presenting engaging, interactive, and competitive learning experiences. The competition is constructed as a prestigious academic event through visual elements such as a coliseum-shaped stage, medals and trophies as symbols of achievement, and alma mater jackets representing institutional identity and pride. Additionally, the role of tutors, both in digital form (Aurora) and as global mentor figures (Heo Seong Beom), streghten the image of innovative modern education. The study concludes that COC not only delivers education in an entertaining format but also shapes a new perception of academic competition as a dynamic, prestigious, and technology-driven experience. Thus, COC exemplifies how the education industry can adapt edutainment strategies to attract the digital generation.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the levels of reflective thinking and English-speaking ability among 109 freshmen education students at a private college institution in Davao del Sur, Philippines, and to examine the relationship between these two variables. It used a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design and applied a stratified random sampling technique in gathering data. Findings revealed that the level of reflective thinking among freshmen education students was high, while their English-speaking ability was moderate. Additionally, the relationship between reflective thinking and English-speaking ability was found insignificant and non-correlational, suggesting that other factors might more significantly influence English-speaking skills. These findings indicated the need for targeted interventions to enhance English-speaking abilities alongside promoting reflective thinking practices. Educational administrators and teachers may focus on improving language teaching pedagogies and in creating supportive learning environments that foster these skills. Future research may explore these dynamics to better understand and support student development.

Abstract

The English business writing correspondence is essential for Financial Management (FM) students, impacting their English writing proficiency both in academic and business purposes. This study identified the common errors in the written English business letters of FM students. The researchers employed a descriptive-qualitative method through Error Analysis Theory and Model of Corrective Feedback. Through this method, the researchers gathered data that provided a deeper understanding and analysis of the various writing difficulties encountered by FM students in their business letters. The letters were carefully checked and examined step by step to find and understand the mistakes that students usually make, helping to identify the areas where they often face difficulties and make errors. The results indicated eight types of error, which are sentence structure (21.3%), word choice (18.4%), capitalization (14.7%), preposition (11.8%), pluralization (9.6%), omission of article (8.8%), omission of linking verb (8.1%), and verb tense (7.3%). This implies that FM students are having difficulty in using the correct grammatical rules in writing. It is recommended that the students must be given feedback and great attention to reduce committing errors in writing business correspondence using the target language.

Abstract

This study analyzes communication patterns within the Hypehope Bali community, a dance organization that emphasizes coordination between leaders, mentors, and students. The research aims to identify and understand the application of wheel communication patterns, formal and informal interactions, and socialization mechanisms that support the community's operational efficiency. Using field observation and in-depth interviews, the study reveals that the wheel communication pattern is implemented with the leader as the central decision-maker, who conveys information to mentors and subsequently to students. Formal communication is applied in contexts requiring clarity, such as meetings and technical instructions, while informal communication dominates daily interactions to foster familiarity and strengthen relationships among members. Additionally, socialization mechanisms introduce the community’s values and culture to new members through internal media such as WhatsApp groups and meetings, as well as external social media platforms. The findings indicate that Hypehope Bali’s success in creating a harmonious and productive environment heavily relies on the integration of various communication patterns. This study recommends continuous monitoring of communication processes to address the challenges of new member adaptation and enhance coordination efficiency within the community.

Abstract

For a lot of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners, writing is perceived to be the most challenging skill despite the fast development of technology in learning. This study was aimed at revealing types of grammatical errors made by lower- and higher-achieving learners in their writing. This qualitative study analyzed the essay writing of 19 lower-achieving learners and 42 higher-achieving learners from a private university. The writing was assigned in the classroom withough any help of digital tools. The findings revealed that both levels of learners made morphological, syntactic, lexical, and functional errors. No group of learner demonstrated a tendency of producing a certain type of errors, meaning that both lower- and higher-achieving learners made similar errros. The errors were probably caused by the interference of learners’ first langugae (Indonesian), lack of knowledge and practice, and the complex English writing system. The findings of this study imply the need to employ strategies in giving feedback to learners’ writing and to enhance learners’ awareness about morphological, syntactic, lexical, and functional aspects in their writing.

Abstract

In daily communication, Tidung speakers often utilize negation forms for rejection, cancellation, and negation. This linguistic phenomenon is very interesting to study. This paper aims to describe the form of negation in Tidung language and its usage. This study of negation in Tidung language uses descriptive method. The source of data comes from written and spoken discourse, especially those that contain the use of negation forms. The data were collected using reading, note-taking, and interview techniques. The data analysis technique used is qualitative descriptive analysis technique. In this paper, several forms of negation in Tidung language are found, including negation of kamad, ando, sama and kamad sino. These forms of negation have different functions and meanings. The use of negation in Tidung language can occur in parts of sentences contained in compound sentences and in the whole sentence contained in single sentences. Judging from the rigidity of the location, the five negations are very strong because the position of the negation cannot be moved to the right of the predicate function or to the left of the subject and object functions.
