KAISA is open access and peer-reviewed journal in the fields of Education and Learning published by the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of STAIN Bengkalis, Indonesia. The publication of an article in KAISA is an essential building block in the development of a respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. KAISA journal published two times a year in the following months: March and September. Each issue consists of nine (9) articles and therefore every volume has eighteen (18) articles. The focus of KAISA is to provide scientific articles on Education and Learning that developed in attendance through academic articles, critical statements on current issues, developmental practice, action. KAISA journal welcomes papers from academicians on education and learning, curriculum and teaching methodology, technology in education, educational psychology, management, and leadership education, childhood education, chemistry education, distance education, language education, mathematics education, and vocational education.

Abstract

Exploitation of children under the age of 13 in Indonesia is a serious social problem, covering economic, sexual and social exploitation. This research aims to design an educational video titled "Emergency Child Exploitation" that uses visual media, particularly videography, as an effective communication tool to raise public awareness. The approach used in this research is a semiotic analysis of the visual and narrative elements in the video. Through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, the video is analyzed to reveal the denotative and connotative meanings contained in symbols, colors, gestures, sounds, and other visual elements. The results of the analysis show that the semiotic elements in this video, such as children playing, scavengers, and crowded streets, provide deep meanings about freedom, economic inequality, and the pressures of urban life. This research not only produces a video as a social campaign tool, but also enriches academic studies in visual communication studies. This educational video is expected to be an effective tool in building public awareness and reducing child exploitation through a meaningful visual approach.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of optimizing academic achievement and enhancing the active engagement of Grade VII-E students at a public junior high school in Malang City through the implementation of an active learning model assisted by Quizizz, integrated with the Teaching at the right level (TaRL) approach. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design carried out in two cycles. Data were collected through learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), engagement observation sheets, and perception questionnaires. Quantitative data analysis using paired t-tests showed a statistically significant improvement in learning outcomes (p < 0.05) following the intervention. Descriptive analysis of qualitative data also revealed an increase in student engagement, as reflected in active participation in discussions, enthusiasm in completing Quizizz quizzes, and interaction during lessons. Adjustments made between cycles—such as adapting questions based on TaRL and optimizing Quizizz gamification—contributed to the effectiveness of the method. It is concluded that the integration of active learning assisted by Quizizz and the TaRL approach positively influences students' academic performance and engagement, and represents an innovative strategy in technology-enhanced learning.

Abstract

This article comprehensively discusses assumption tests in statistical analysis, including the steps to implement them using SPSS software, along with examples of statistical test outputs. Assumption testing is a crucial early stage in quantitative research because it determines the feasibility of selecting statistical analysis techniques, especially in distinguishing between the use of parametric and non-parametric tests. Normality, homogeneity, and linearity tests are presented practically in this article to make understanding easier, especially for novice researchers. Additionally, this article briefly mentions the types of hypothesis tests commonly used in quantitative research and their test classifications. The approach used in writing this article is library research, in order to strengthen the theoretical basis and enrich the discussion. Hopefully, this article can be a useful conceptual reference for students, researchers, and practitioners in applying statistical analysis appropriately, systematically, and in accordance with scientific procedures.

Abstract

To improve students' understanding of the concept of almsgiving in PAI learning in elementary schools, this study suggests creating a PowerPoint-based digital Pop Up Book called POP SODA. This research was conducted on grade 2 students of MI Annur 4 in Malangbong, Garut, using a systematic D & D (Design and Development) approach with the ADDIE model. The focus of this research is to find out how effective the PowerPoint-based digital Pop Up Book media is available for use in elementary schools. The results showed that the digital media Pop Up Book “POP SODA”, which consists of a PowerPoint presentation, has great potential to improve students' understanding of the concept of almsgiving. This digital pop up book, which uses Microsoft PowerPoint, provides an interactive and fun learning experience for students. The product serves as an effective learning tool, as indicated by the positive responses from students and evaluations from experts. Therefore, the use of technology in education, particularly in PAI learning, is becoming increasingly important to ensure that learning is relevant and engaging. The digital Pop Up Book “POP SODA” comes as a step forward to address the difficulties students face in conveying abstract concepts. It offers an innovative and successful approach to PAI learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of labyrinth board media on the addition of material to improve students' arithmetic skills in class 1 of SDN 060913 Medan. The research design used is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were students of class IA SDN 060913 Medan, totaling 24 students consisting of 12 male students and 12 female students. Data collection techniques in the study were carried out by observing teacher and student activities, tests, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the application of labyrinth board media can improve the arithmetic skills of class I students of SDN 060913 Medan, this can be seen from the average score in cycle I, which is 68.75 with a percentage of 46%. In cycle II, it has started to increase with an average score of 85 with a percentage of 87.5%. The application of the labyrinth board media used makes students practice questions so that they can remember what they have learned. So it can be concluded that the application of labyrinth board media in addition material can improve the arithmetic skills of class 1A students at SDN 060913 Medan.

Abstract

Moral education is a fundamental component in the character formation of young children, especially in Islamic-based education. Instilling Islamic moral values in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions is crucial to building a solid foundation of character. This study aims to explore the role of teachers in instilling Islamic moral values through daily activities at PAUD in Padangsidimpuan. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used, involving observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that teachers play an important role through modeling, habituation, and storytelling. Activities such as collective prayers, greeting each other, and helping others are regularly conducted to instill values such as patience, honesty, and compassion. Challenges faced include time constraints, limited teaching materials, and the need for active involvement from parents. This study recommends continuous teacher training, provision of adequate facilities, and strengthening cooperation between schools and parents to support Islamic character education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of inclusive education in elementary schools by highlighting the various challenges and opportunities that arise. The method used is a qualitative approach through library research, employing content analysis techniques to evaluate and interpret data from relevant literature sources. The findings reveal that the implementation of inclusive education still faces obstacles such as limited resources, insufficient teacher training, and suboptimal facilities and infrastructure. Additionally, social and cultural factors, such as stigma toward students with special needs, also pose significant barriers. Nonetheless, there are considerable opportunities to improve the quality of education through strengthened regulations, enhanced educator capacity, adequate provision of facilities, and the development of an inclusive culture within schools and the wider community. A comprehensive approach and collaboration among stakeholders are key factors in the successful, effective, and sustainable implementation of inclusive education.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of an application called "ALBI" (Get to Know the Stories of the Prophets) as an innovative and interactive learning medium for the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subject, targeting second-grade elementary school students. The research method employed is Design and Development (D&D). The application aims to introduce students to the stories of the prophets and the technological advancements during their respective eras. A trial conducted at SD Negeri Gunungsari showed an improvement in students' learning interest and comprehension. Data were collected through observations and questionnaires distributed to both students and subject matter experts. The results indicate that the "ALBI" application received a positive response and was considered effective in assisting students in understanding the stories of the prophets. The development of this technology-based learning medium is expected to serve as an innovative solution to enhance the quality of Islamic Religious Education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility of Adobe Illustrator-based animated video media for teaching diversity and respect for religious and cultural differences in Grade VI at Bright School, South Jakarta. The background of this research is rooted in the low effectiveness of conventional teaching methods, which predominantly rely on lectures and non-interactive media, causing students to struggle in fully understanding the concept of diversity. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using a modified Borg & Gall model, consisting of needs analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, and limited and wider trials. The subjects included 30 students, two subject matter experts, and two media experts. Research instruments comprised validation questionnaires, learning achievement tests (pre-test and post-test), and response questionnaires for both students and teachers. The validation results indicated that the media was deemed highly feasible, with an average score of 91%. Effectiveness testing revealed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, from an average score of 60.4 (pre-test) to 83.1 (post-test), with an overall increase of 22.7%. Both students and teachers responded very positively, stating that the animation media was engaging, easy to understand, and motivating. It can be concluded that Adobe Illustrator-based animated video media is effective in enhancing students’ comprehension, tolerance, and respect for diversity, while serving as an innovative alternative for character-based learning in elementary schools.
