This study examines notarial practice challenges in archipelagic regions through a comprehensive case study of Batam City, Indonesia, which serves as a unique example of an archipelagic special economic zone with significant cross-border commercial activity. The research employed mixed-methods methodology including in-depth interviews with 15 practicing notaries, focus group discussions with diverse client groups, and quantitative analysis of 384 notarial transaction records spanning 2019-2024. The findings reveal four primary challenges systematically affecting service delivery: geographical constraints causing average service delays of 2.8 days for island-based clients versus 0.6 days for urban clients; regulatory complexity with 89% of notaries reporting uncertainty about applicable legal frameworks among 47 potentially relevant regulatory provisions; technological limitations where only 23% of offices provide basic digital tools despite 82% of clients expecting digital services; and access disparities with island-based clients comprising merely 18% of service users while representing 31% of registered businesses. Statistical analysis demonstrates significant economic implications, showing that each additional day of notarial processing time correlates with a 1.2% decrease in investment completion probability, while transportation costs add 15-20% to total service expenses for island clients, creating systematic inequalities in legal service access. Professional development deficiencies further compound these operational challenges, with 71% of notaries feeling inadequately prepared for the complex regulatory environment they encounter in special economic zone practice. The research recommends four critical interventions: regulatory harmonization through integrated frameworks clarifying relationships between national notarial law and special economic zone requirements; controlled technology adoption programs enabling secure remote notarization while maintaining legal authenticity; restructured professional development programs addressing specialized knowledge needs of archipelagic practice; and innovative service delivery solutions including mobile notarial services and satellite offices to improve geographical accessibility. These findings contribute significantly to understanding legal service delivery in geographically challenging contexts and provide evidence-based foundations for comprehensive policy reform that could transform Indonesia's archipelagic geography from a barrier into a competitive advantage through context-specific innovations in notarial practice..

Healthcare workforce shortages in hinterland areas represent a critical global health challenge, particularly affecting remote communities that struggle to attract and retain qualified healthcare professionals. This cross-sectional study analyzed the influence of organizational support and health infrastructure on healthcare staff retention among 182 healthcare workers in hinterland communities of Riau Islands, Indonesia, using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The measurement model demonstrated excellent reliability and validity with Cronbach's Alpha values ranging from 0.924-0.947 and Average Variance Extracted above 0.5 for all constructs. Results revealed that health infrastructure had the strongest direct positive effect on staff retention, followed by organizational support, while health infrastructure also significantly influenced organizational support, creating a mediation pathway. The indirect effect analysis confirmed that organizational support partially mediates the relationship between health infrastructure and staff retention, with all hypothesized relationships being statistically significant and the model explaining substantial variance in retention outcomes. These findings suggest that healthcare organizations in hinterland areas should adopt integrated strategies that simultaneously invest in infrastructure improvements and strengthen organizational support systems to achieve optimal staff retention outcomes in challenging remote environments.

Fatherless women often experience unresolved emotional trauma and inner conflict that can surface in their speech. This study examines how impolite language used by five Indonesian women (aged 18–30) who grew up without fathers reflects underlying cognitive dissonance and emotional regulation strategies. Chat transcripts and interview data were analyzed using Culpeper’s impoliteness framework and Festinger’s theory of dissonance. The women’s utterances were categorized by type and function, revealing that 33% were direct, “bald-on-record” insults (e.g., “Bajingan kali jadi orang tua” (“What a bastard of a parent”)), while positive impoliteness and sarcasm each accounted for 24%, and negative impoliteness 19%. Nearly half of all impolite utterances served to express pent-up anger or disappointment, 32% served to assert dominance over the absent father, and 20% to signal identity (e.g. rejecting the obedient daughter role). These hostile expressions were immediately followed by internal conflict: participants felt torn between cultural norms (respectful daughter) and their cathartic outburst. Consistent with Festinger’s (1957) model, the most common dissonance-reduction strategy was reframing the behavior (justification) (36%), such as insisting “I know it’s rude, but it’s the fastest way to show I’m disappointed”. Other strategies included behavioral change (24%), avoiding conflict (20%), and environmental adjustment (20%). These findings suggest that impolite utterances in this context are not random aggression but purposeful emotional outlet and coping mechanisms. The women use language both to release long-suppressed trauma and to negotiate their sense of self, later employing cognitive strategies to restore consonance with their internal values. This complex interplay of linguistic expression and psychological regulation underscores impoliteness as a form of self-protective agency rather than mere rudeness.

This study aims to examine the influence of parental support and intrinsic motivation on the self-efficacy of students at SMK Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan. A quantitative correlational method was employed using multiple linear regression analysis. A total of 220 students were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used included Likert-type scales for parental support, intrinsic motivation, and self-efficacy. The analysis revealed that both variables had a positive and significant effect on self-efficacy (p < 0.05), with a simultaneous contribution of R² = 81.8%. These findings highlight the importance of social support and internal motivation in fostering students' self-confidence, particularly in academic contexts.
