Abstract

This research, entitled “Taboo Utterances in the Purung Ta Kadonga Ratu Traditional Ritual: An Anthropolinguistic Study,” aims to identify, describe, and analyze the forms and meanings of taboo utterances used in the Purung Ta Kadonga Ratu ritual of the Anakalang community in Central Sumba Regency. The study employs an anthropolinguistic approach, combining linguistic analysis with socio-cultural context to understand how taboo language functions in maintaining sacredness and social order within traditional ceremonies.The research applies a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation and documentation involving three key informants: traditional elders and ritual leaders. The data were analyzed through transcription, translation, classification and interpretation of the taboo utterances, based on Kridalaksana’s (1993) theory and Hymes’s (1972) SPEAKING communication model.The findings reveal 28 main taboo utterances, consisting of 19 positive (sacred) taboos and 9 negative (socially prohibited) taboos. Positive taboos are associated with sacred elements, respect toward God, ancestors and cultural symbols—such as Loda Pari, Mamuli and Labba. Negative taboos, on the other hand, are linked to prohibitions against words or expressions believed to bring misfortune or offend ancestral spirits, such as Mehang Karaga, Ratu Hanguju and Patara Mata Madu.These findings demonstrate that taboo utterances serve as a means to preserve ritual sanctity, regulate social behavior and symbolize reverence toward ancestral and cultural values. Thus, linguistic taboos in the Anakalang community reflect not only linguistic structure but also their belief system, ethics and collective cultural identity.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to read comprehension of descriptive texts of class VII A students by applying the SQ3R Methode (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Reviuw). The type of research used is classroom action research with the following stages, planning, implementation, observation, testing and reflection by taking the research location at SMPK Santa Maria Assumpta Kupang. The subjects in this study were 28 class VII A students. Data collection was carried out using observation and test techniques. The date were processed and analiyzed further using quantitative descriptive. The Result of this study indicate that the application of the SQ3R Methode can improve the ablility to read comprehension of descriptive texts of students where in cycle I the completeness obtained was 43% or 12% students who achieved completeness while those those who had not achieved the completeness criteria werw 57% with a total of 16 students. In addition, there was an increase in the average value of student test results from 65 in cycle II to 81 in cycle II. Thus, the application of the SQ3R Methode (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Reviuw), has been proven to impove the reading comprehension ablitiy of descriptive texts of class VII A students. This is proven by the increasing student learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II after the teacher applied the SQ3R Methode.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the meanings and symbolic motifs of the Ende Lio traditional sarong. The focus of this research is on the form, function, and symbolic meaning of the motifs found in these traditional sarongs. The study applies semiotic theory, which explains the process of examining and analyzing signs and cultural symbols.A qualitative method was employed, as the research object was studied in its natural cultural context. The analysis reveals that the symbols found in Sarung Kelimara, Sarung Jara Elo, Sarung Redu Siku Mbira, and Sarung Pundi each possess distinct forms, functions, and meanings. However, they all share aesthetic values that reflect the unique cultural identity of Ende Lio.This research is expected to serve as a reference for future studies in linguistics and cultural semiotics, as well as contribute to the preservation of Ende Lio’s local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the representation of toxic masculinity and the resistance of the character Derry against traditional masculine constructions in the series Sugar Daddy. The approach used is qualitative with a narrative content analysis method. Data were collected through observation of scenes and dialogues in the series, then analyzed using Kupers' (2005) theory of toxic masculinity. The findings show that Derry initially embodies toxic masculinity characterized by emotional repression, self-isolation, and refusal of help. However, through counseling processes and social relationships, Derry begins to exhibit a transformation toward a new form of masculinity that is empathetic, reflective, and emotionally open. This transformation demonstrates that traumatic experiences can serve as a turning point for men to reject social constructs that suppress emotional expression. The series also highlights interpersonal relationship dynamics as essential media in the healing and identity transformation process. Furthermore, this series conveys educational messages about the importance of emotional balance and gender equality in modern society. Thus, Sugar Daddy becomes a significant representation of male resistance against toxic masculinity and the transformation of masculine identity in a more inclusive and humanistic modern era. This study contributes to literary and gender studies by highlighting shifts in masculine values within Indonesian popular culture.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk kesantunan berbahasa yang muncul dalam interaksi kelas serta menganalisis dampaknya terhadap perkembangan karakter siswa di SDN 001 Rambah. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi tuturan yang terjadi selama proses pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru secara konsisten menerapkan strategi kesantunan positif dan negatif, seperti penggunaan sapaan hormat, permintaan tidak langsung, dan mitigasi dalam menegur siswa. Siswa meniru pola komunikasi tersebut melalui penggunaan ungkapan sopan seperti “izin bertanya,” “maaf,” dan “bolehkah saya berbicara,” yang kemudian berkontribusi pada suasana kelas yang lebih kondusif dan menghargai perbedaan. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa kesantunan berbahasa tidak hanya berperan dalam menjaga keharmonisan komunikasi, tetapi juga memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap pembentukan karakter siswa, terutama dalam aspek empati, kontrol diri, dan perilaku prososial.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola tindak tutur anak terhadap guru dan hubungannya dengan pengembangan karakter kesantunan berbahasa di SDN 008 Rambah Samo. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi interaksi verbal anak di kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak menggunakan berbagai bentuk tindak tutur, seperti direktif, ekspresif, komisif, dan deklaratif, yang dipengaruhi oleh kemampuan bahasa, kesadaran sosial, perilaku guru, serta budaya sekolah. Anak yang konsisten menggunakan bahasa santun menunjukkan karakter kesantunan yang lebih kuat, mampu mengendalikan emosi, mengekspresikan pendapat dengan tepat, dan menghargai orang lain. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pola tindak tutur anak menjadi indikator penting dalam pengembangan karakter kesantunan berbahasa dan menunjukkan perlunya integrasi pendidikan bahasa dan pendidikan karakter secara konsisten di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Kesantunan berbahasa anak di sekolah dasar menjadi representasi pembentukan karakter moral. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola kesantunan berbahasa yang ditunjukkan siswa kepada guru sebagai indikator perkembangan karakter moral di SDN 008 Rambah Samo. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa secara konsisten menerapkan kesantunan berbahasa dalam interaksi dengan guru, seperti sapaan sopan, pertanyaan dengan hormat, tanggapan yang menghargai, serta pengendalian diri dalam kegiatan kelas. Faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi kesantunan meliputi teladan guru, lingkungan sekolah yang mendukung, dan interaksi dengan teman sebaya. Implementasi pendidikan karakter melalui praktik bahasa sehari-hari membantu menanamkan nilai-nilai moral seperti rasa hormat, tanggung jawab, dan empati. Kesantunan berbahasa bukan hanya keterampilan linguistik, tetapi juga manifestasi nyata dari nilai moral, sekaligus mendukung terciptanya lingkungan belajar yang harmonis dan perkembangan sosial-emosional siswa.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of language in Kimo Stamboel's film "Badarawuhi di Desa Penari" through a sociolinguistic study, with a primary focus on the phenomenon of code switching. By applying a qualitative approach and library research techniques, this study collected data from dialogues in the film and references to related sources. The analysis was conducted using the listening and note-taking method, followed by data processing through qualitative descriptions. The findings of this study reveal two types of code switching: internal code switching and external code switching. Internal code switching occurs when speakers switch between Indonesian and Javanese within the framework of the national language, which is usually triggered by situational conditions, social relationships, and closeness between characters. External code switching occurs when speakers switch from Indonesian to Arabic, especially in religious contexts such as basmalah, hamdalah, salam, and belasongkondolence. This phenomenon shows that code switching is not merely a means of communication, but also reflects the cultural identity, religious values, and social rules of the society depicted in the film. In general, the results of this study confirm that the film "Badarawuhi di Desa Penari" depicts the social reality of Javanese society through the use of authentic, contextual, and culturally rich language. This research is expected to contribute to the advancement of sociolinguistic studies, particularly in understanding the application of language in audiovisual works, as well as being a reference material for researchers, academics, and practitioners in the fields of language and film. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hubungan antara etika berbahasa dan pengembangan karakter siswa di sekolah dasar. Bahasa tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai alat komunikasi, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pembentukan nilai moral dan sosial. Penggunaan bahasa yang sopan, santun, dan sesuai konteks mencerminkan sikap hormat, disiplin, tanggung jawab, serta kemampuan pengendalian diri siswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi di SD Negeri 004 Rambah Samo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa etika berbahasa siswa tercermin melalui sapaan, salam, respons sopan, dan kemampuan menyesuaikan tutur kata dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Faktor utama yang memengaruhi etika berbahasa meliputi keteladanan guru, lingkungan sekolah yang kondusif, serta interaksi teman sebaya. Etika berbahasa terbukti berkontribusi penting dalam pembentukan karakter siswa, khususnya dalam aspek rasa hormat, tanggung jawab, disiplin, empati, kerja sama, dan pembentukan citra diri positif. Dengan demikian, pembiasaan bahasa santun menjadi strategi efektif dalam mendukung pendidikan karakter di sekolah. Sekolah perlu memperkuat keteladanan, budaya bahasa santun, dan interaksi positif agar pengembangan karakter dapat berlangsung secara optimal.

Abstract

The focus of this research is adjusted to the formulation of the problem discussed in this research, namely, what are the social values ​​carried by the characters in the novel Nyoman Sulastri by Gerson Poyk. The theory used in this research is Lowenthal's theory: Social Barometer. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Research results The results of this research show that the character Nyoman Sulastri has the value of social responsibility, the character Hanibal has the social value of cooperation, the character Sujono has the value of social responsibility, and the character Barbara has the value of social responsibility. The four figures have dominant social values ​​from each of the three social values ​​studied, namely love, responsibility and life harmony. The conclusion of this thesis is that these figures have different dominant social values, starting from responsibility towards family, work, education and cooperation. These figures can adapt to other social values ​​when they are in a place or interacting with other individuals or groups.
