Abstract

The transformation of natural resources into products of economic value is a strategic step in improving the welfare of village communities. One of the techniques that can be used is ecoprint, which is a method of dyeing fabrics that use natural materials such as leaves and flowers. This community service activity aims to introduce and train ecoprint techniques to housewives and MSME actors in Sindangmandi Village, Banten, as an alternative to environmentally friendly creative businesses. The implementation method includes socialization, demonstration of pounding techniques in ecoprint, and direct practice by participants. The results of the activity show the high enthusiasm of the community in adopting this technique, which is expected to open up new business opportunities based on local resources. With the increase in community skills in ecoprint, the economic potential of the village can develop through the diversification of products such as totebags, hijab, and clothes based on natural dyes. This service contributes to the empowerment of environment-based economies and the sustainability of small businesses at the local level.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia’s economy, yet many face challenges in financial management, including Dlusia Dress, a fashion sector MSME. This community engagement program aims to enhance the financial management capabilities of Dlusia Dress, focusing on cost of goods sold (COGS) calculation and business budgeting. Conducted over six months, from April to October 2024, the program consisted of three stages: a preliminary survey, training and mentoring sessions, and an evaluation phase. The results demonstrate significant improvements in financial management practices. Dlusia Dress successfully separated personal and business finances, implemented accurate COGS calculations, and developed a structured business budget. Additionally, the business owner adopted systematic transaction recording, enabling real-time cash flow monitoring. The final evaluation revealed increased financial awareness and skills, providing a strong foundation for long-term business sustainability. In conclusion, targeted and needs-based interventions can help MSMEs address financial management challenges, improve operational efficiency, and enhance competitiveness. These findings highlight the importance of integrated approaches in supporting MSMEs toward achieving sustainable growth and resilience.

Abstract

Communication is a vital tool for conveying intentions and coordinating actions. In village governance, effective communication enables the village head to share vital information with the community. This study explores how the head of Cikumbueun Village in Pandeglang Regency, Banten, implements communication strategies during development initiatives. It also examines supportive and inhibiting factors that influence the strategy’s effectiveness. Utilizing qualitative descriptive methods and purposive sampling, data were gathered through observation and interviews. The village head adopts a participatory communication strategy, which includes community-wide meetings (musyawarah desa) and grassroots discussions. This approach has proven effective in relaying information and fostering engagement. However, several challenges impede full impact: residents’ limited availability, generational disparities in participation, and occasional misunderstandings in verbal communication. These obstacles highlight the need for adaptive methods—such as flexible scheduling, inclusive outreach, and clearer messaging—to enhance the community’s involvement in development efforts.

Abstract

Indonesian economy continues to grow positively amidst increasingly uncertain global conditions, including tariff wars initiated by the United States against several countries, as well as physical warfare in several regions that have disrupted global economic activity. The positive growth in Indonesia is driven by the MSME sector. South Kembangan is a densely populated urban village, with an estimated population of around 35,000 by 2024. Based on the national ratio of MSMEs to the population, an estimated 23%, or approximately 8,000 residents, of South Kembangan are involved in the MSME sector. A common problem faced by MSMEs is marketing, which is closely related to the brand of the products and/or services offered. A business's brand can directly influence product and/or service sales; a strong brand will increase sales, while a weak one will decrease sales. Therefore, the Faculty of Economics and Business of Mercubuana University, together with the South Kembangan Village, West Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, collaborated to conduct a Community Service Activity with the theme "Improving the Quality of MSMEs in the Digital Era." One of the topics was MSME Brand Development Training. The training aimed to develop and transform MSMEs, particularly in the South Kembangan Village, into financially and/or operationally superior MSMEs. Specifically, participants were expected to create and develop strong brands for their businesses.
