Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to assess the impact of implementing a multicultural problem-based learning model and prior knowledge on students' tolerance attitudes in the Citizenship Education course. Methodology: The sampling technique was carried out using cluster random sampling to determine the experimental and control classes. Data collection methods included tests and questionnaires. Tests were used to collect data on prior knowledge, while questionnaires were used to collect data on students’ tolerance attitudes. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially. Inferential analysis employed a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) 2 x 2. Main Findings: The results of the analysis indicate that the implementation of a multicultural problem-based learning model and prior knowledge affect students' tolerance attitudes in the citizenship course. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of two aspects that are rarely explicitly combined: multiculturalism as a socio-cultural framework and prior knowledge as a cognitive aspect in the assessment of tolerance attitudes. This approach produces a more comprehensive assessment instrument compared to previous studies.

Abstract

Improving the quality of research proposals is a challenge in Biology education at the tertiary level. Integrating project-based learning with artificial intelligence (AI) support offers an innovative approach to strengthening students’ proposal writing skills. This study aimed to determine the effect of AI-assisted project-based learning on the ability to write research proposals of Biology Education students. This study used a pretest-posttest quasi-experiment design with a control group. Two classes of Biology Education students were purposively selected. The experimental class applied AI-assisted project learning, while the control class used conventional methods. Data were collected through the assessment of the research proposal rubric and analyzed by t-test to assess the difference between the scores of the control class and experimental classes’ scores. The results showed that the average research proposal score of the experimental class increased significantly compared to the control class. The improvement includes aspects of structure, background, literature review, methodology, and quality of argument. The research results show that the average score of the experimental class proposal writing ability of 86.2 is greater than that of the control class proposal writing ability of 78.7. The results also show that the Sig. 0.0001 is smaller than 0.05, meaning that AI-assisted project-based learning affects the ability to write research proposals. This finding indicates that AI effectively supports students in designing and writing better research proposals.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Character education is a strategic agenda in Indonesia’s nation-building, particularly in responding to globalization, moral degradation, and youth intolerance. Within secondary education, religious extracurricular organizations such as the Mosque Youth Association (Ikatan Remaja Masjid) play a vital role in fostering religiosity while strengthening nationalism. This study investigates the role of the Mosque Youth Association in cultivating nationalist-religious character among students in three schools in Bandung: SMAN 18, SMKN 12, and MA Nurul Iman. Methodology: Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, document analysis, and field notes. Seventeen respondents were selected purposively: school principals, association mentors, leaders, members, government officials, and academic experts. Data analysis employed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model—data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing—validated through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Main Findings: The findings indicate that the Mosque Youth Association functions as a behavioral laboratory, shaping students’ nationalist-religious character through regular activities such as religious studies, congregational prayers, social service, and leadership training. Consistent habit formation occurs through positive reinforcement (recognition, trust, leadership opportunities) and negative reinforcement (warnings, social sanctions). Key challenges include fluctuating participation, limited resources, repetitive content, and digital demands addressed through program innovation, collaboration, and technology use. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study concludes that character development through the Mosque Youth Association aligns with behavioristic learning theory and provides insights for reinforcement-based character education compatible with the Merdeka Curriculum and the Pancasila Student Profile

Abstract

Islamic education plays an important role in shaping the morals of the younger generation, particularly thru Quran memorization (Tahfiz Quran), which not only emphasizes memorization but also instills values of faith, worship, and morals. This research aims to uncover the strategies for internalizing Islamic educational values thru Quran memorization learning at SMP IT Jabal Noor, SMP IT Al-Hijrah, and SMP IT Nurul Ilmi in Deli Serdang Regency. Using a phenomenological qualitative approach, data was obtained thru observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that internalization is achieved thru habituation, role modeling, talaqqi (reception), muraja’ah (review), motivation, and a system of rewards and punishments integrated with the curriculum and extracurricular activities. Supporting factors include teacher competence, facilities, religious culture, and parental support, while obstacles include time constraints, lack of motivation, technological distractions, and minimal parental control. In conclusion, memorizing the Quran is effective in shaping students' Quranic character and serves as an important strategy for addressing the moral and social challenges faced by the younger generation, while also making theoretical and practical contributions to Islamic education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of instructional supervision by the head of madrasah, organizational culture, and self-discipline on the performance of Madrasah Aliyah teachers in Gayo Lues Regency. Methodology: Using a quantitative approach with a causal model and involving 84 teachers selected through the Krejcie–Morgan sampling technique, this research employs path analysis to examine the structural relationships among the variables. Main Findings: The findings indicate that organizational culture has the strongest influence on teachers’ self-discipline (ρ = 0.436), while instructional supervision exerts a smaller but positive effect (ρ = 0.132). Teacher performance is significantly affected by instructional supervision (ρ = 0.597), organizational culture (ρ = 0.408), and self-discipline (ρ = 0.324). Although instructional supervision and organizational culture also influence teacher performance indirectly through self-discipline, these mediating effects are relatively small—0.044 and 0.132 respectively. The model fit analysis confirms that the proposed causal structure aligns well with the empirical data. This study contributes to educational management literature by offering a comprehensive model integrating supervision, culture, and self-discipline, and by establishing self-discipline as a partial mediator between organizational culture and teacher performance. Novelty/Originality of this study: The findings highlight the importance of strengthening supervisory practices, cultivating a positive organizational culture, and enhancing teacher discipline to improve professional performance in madrasahs. Overall, the study provides empirical evidence that can support the development of strategic policies to enhance teacher quality and accountability in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study investigates teacher quality management in Integrated Islamic Kindergartens in Central Aceh Regency by examining the processes of planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision across Islamic Kindergartens. Methodology: Using a qualitative multisite approach, data were gathered through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed through systematic data condensation, display, and verification. Main Findings: The findings show that quality planning is guided by a synergy between institutional vision, mission, motto, and objectives with national education standards and JSIT (Jaringan Sekolah Islam Terpadu) guidelines, resulting in a balanced emphasis on academic competence, professional skills, and spiritual formation. Organizational quality is sustained through transparent structures, measurable task distribution, coordinated teamwork, and standardized operating procedures. Recruitment applies competency-based selection enriched with Islamic values, prioritizing Qur’anic mastery, character integrity, pedagogical expertise, and emotional maturity. Teacher development is implemented through Islamic andragogy, integrating professional training with spiritual nurturing via halaqah, mentoring, and routine religious studies. Supervision adopts a holistic model that evaluates academic performance, pedagogical practice, and spiritual consistency to ensure continuous improvement. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of a hybrid teacher quality management model that fuses national quality assurance frameworks with JSIT principles, positioning moral goodness as the foundation, pedagogical quality as the institutional output, and educational excellence as the long-term goal. This model offers a new theoretical framework and practical reference for enhancing teacher quality in faith-based early childhood education institutions.
