Abstract

The Community Service Program at Halu Oleo University, titled "Training in Creative Writing Techniques and Final Assignment Paraphrasing Techniques for Students of the Communication Science, Mathematics, Archeology and Plant Protection Study Program," aims to improve students' ability to produce various scientific papers and the ability to paraphrase in this scientific work so that the similarity percentage in the Turnitin test meets the reasonableness threshold standard. For example, Communication Science students must revise their final thesis assignments that do not meet the graduation threshold before taking the final thesis exam, up to a maximum of three rounds of testing. Of course, this takes a long time if students are not equipped with writing and paraphrasing skills in order to avoid being detected as plagiarized. This will almost certainly have an impact on the number of scientific works produced by students under the supervision of lecturers, as well as the timeliness with which students complete their studies at Halu Oleo University. During this training, students learn how to brainstorm ideas and put them into creative writing, as well as how to create a platform for expressing emotions and thoughts. Aside from that, some students can come up with several interesting titles to use as themes for writing their thesis at the end of their study period. The technique of paraphrasing scientific writing provides special insight for students regarding the need for originality of ideas and writing produced so that it becomes work that meets the rules of scientific writing. It also provides additional knowledge about how the Turnitin application and its algorithm work in detecting the level of similarity of a piece of writing, so that this can be a trigger for students to prioritize scientific writing that has a level of similarity that meets writing standards.

Abstract

The marine and fisheries sector is one of the priority regional development programs to realize food sovereignty in supporting various other development sectors. Therefore, the Government continues to boost the maritime and fisheries sector because it has an important role in realizing economic independence, especially in Southeast Sulawesi. In 2023, fisheries production was recorded at 268,000 tons or an increase from the previous number of 253,359 tons in 2022. Bungkotoko Village is one of the coastal areas in Kendari City with the majority of the population working in the fisheries sector, around 29% of the total population, so marine products are source of income for the community. The majority of fishermen in Bungkutoko are men, and the role of female fishermen in economic activities is still minimal. Tuna is one type of fish that is abundant in Bungkutoko waters. However, the price is relatively fluctuating and is easily damaged so it needs to be processed so that its value is more durable and profitable. One of the promising preparations is to make shredded tuna fish. This product diversification aims to meet the diverse and growing tastes of consumers so that there are always alternatives and refreshing menus, in this way market saturation can be overcome. The aim of this service activity is for the women fishermen group to know about innovations in how to process shredded tuna fish with less capital because it does not use coconut milk so that the shelf life can be longer, there will be an increase in the skill/ability of the partner group to manage and develop their business and produce highly competitive products. The implementation method consists of stages: socialization, counseling, training (practice), and evaluation. Through this activity, it is hoped that it can increase household income as an effort to increase the family's economic independence.

Abstract

The Internal Community Service Program, titled Digital Literacy Training to Improve the Service Performance of Opaasi Village Officials in 2023, aims to increase Opaasi village officials' digital literacy understanding in order to create a digital-based government system. As a result, the service team provided training in the form of an introduction to the substance of a digital-based government system, as well as a Village Seminar on the importance of digital literacy and media on how to avoid fake news. This is done because the object of service still has limited awareness of digital literacy. Furthermore, as time passes, the quality of service to village communities must become easier and more effective. The service team uses media such as websites and power point presentations to communicate knowledge and ideals to village leaders through this training method. The team engages with partners in this service activity, notably Opaasi Village Government Officials. The outcomes of this service will be critical in preparing Opaasi community to become a digital community by 2024. The service team created a website, social media profiles, and e-mail to help the Opaasi village government communicate its policies to the community.

Abstract

Workload is a difference between the capacity or ability of workers and the job demands that must be faced. Inappropriate workload has an impact on employee job satisfaction which results in low employee performance. The results of observations made during field observations found several complex problems, such as the relationship between leaders and subordinates which was less than harmonious, such as communication from superiors to subordinates which was not smooth and cooperation which existed less than optimally so that subordinates felt uncomfortable in carrying out their work, so it became worthy of research. . Therefore, creating work programs related to increasing knowledge on how to manage excessive workload through educating the public is very important to increase worker satisfaction. The aim of this service is to increase the knowledge of the Waworaha Village community about how to manage excessive workload. The method used in service is an offline educational method. The result of this service is that workers can understand and implement efforts to deal with excessive workloads in order to increase worker satisfaction.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems among productive-age populations and remains a leading cause of reduced productivity and quality of life. Globally, more than 60–80% of individuals experience LBP at least once in their lifetime, while in Indonesia the prevalence reaches 38.4% within a three-month period among productive workers and 44.29% within 12 months. Among healthcare workers in Asia, the lifetime prevalence is reported at 58.1%. These high rates are closely associated with prolonged sitting, non-ergonomic working postures, improper workstation design, and the lack of regular stretching, all of which contribute to muscle tension and chronic pain. Similar conditions are observed at Universitas Halu Oleo, where academic and administrative staff spend 6–8 hours per day seated at desks or using computers, yet awareness of ergonomics and simple physical exercises remains low. Without appropriate intervention, this situation may lead to decreased work performance, increased functional disability, and higher healthcare costs. Therefore, an ergonomic education program combined with simple stretching exercises is urgently needed and feasible to implement within daily work routines. This program aims not only to enhance knowledge but also to foster sustainable healthy work behaviors, thereby reducing the risk of LBP, maintaining productivity, and supporting the development of a healthy and competitive work environment at Universitas Halu Oleo.

Abstract

The coastal area of Waworaha Village, Konawe Regency, possesses significant potential in mangrove ecosystems, water resources, and coastal landscapes that support the development of community-based ecotourism. However, environmental degradation, low public awareness, and threats from extractive activities and land-use conversion have weakened coastal resilience and community welfare. This community service program aimed to increase community participation in mangrove, water, and ecotourism management as a strategy to strengthen coastal resilience. The method employed participatory socialization through interactive lectures, focus group discussions, and field activities, including mangrove planting and environmental management education. The program involved village officials, youth groups, and coastal communities as the main actors in its implementation. The results indicate an increased community understanding of the ecological functions of mangroves as natural coastal protectors and the importance of water resource conservation for sustainable livelihoods. Community participation in mangrove planting activities and ecotourism planning discussions also increased, as shown by active involvement at every stage of the program. In addition, initial community initiatives emerged to develop mangrove-based ecotourism as an alternative, environmentally friendly, and sustainable source of income. The program also fostered collective awareness of the importance of protecting coastal areas from external environmental pressures. Thus, participatory socialization proved effective in enhancing community engagement in coastal environmental management. Increased participation serves as a crucial foundation for strengthening coastal resilience while opening opportunities to improve community welfare sustainably.
