Abstract

This study aims to conserve the system of adjective phrases in the Teon language spoken by people in four countries, namely Watludan, Yafila, and Issu Villages, in Central Maluku District. Data was collected through an instrument containing examples of Indonesian phrases and then translated into Teon language according to data needs. Data analysis was carried out by classifying all types of phrases according to the Teon language. After the data is classified, it is continued by studying based on the type of nominal phrase by making a formula according to the phrase patterns of the Teon language. The results showed that the adjective phrases in Teon's language were divided into two, namely attributive endocentric nominal phrases and coordinating endocentric nominal phrases. Attributive endocentric adjective phrases consist of several types of phrases based on their attribute word classes, namely (1) adjective phrases with positive comparison level adverbial attributes; (2) adjective phrases with comparative adjective attributes; (3) adjective phrases with the attributes of nagator/denial adverbial adjectives; (4) adjective phrases with excessive adverbial attributes; (5) adjective phrases with relative adverbial attributes. (2) the coordinating endocentric adjective phrases are divided into two, namely the addition and selection coordinating endocentric adjective phrases.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the social conditions of modern society who have lost their identity. Reproduction of signs is done to fulfill their desire to reach a point of freedom that they expect, regardless of the background of the sign present. The short story “Daulatul Ashafir” by Taufik Al-Hakim which tells about the lives of two birds and a man who are filled with the hustle and bustle of social conflicts that are relevant to the state of modern society today. This study uses Umberto Eco's semiotic theory as a theoretical basis to find signs in the text that indicate an author's criticism of modern society. The results found in this paper are some of Taufik Al-Hakim's criticisms of modern society in the form of criticisms of arrogance, consumerism, greed, and ignorance that are intertwined in the soul of modern society. The author is able to convey his criticism of modern society in the short story "Daulatul Ashafir" by placing two birds as the main character and anti-thesis against humans who are considered the highest entities of creatures in the universe by negating the life that exists outside them.

Abstract

Women and literary works are inseparable unity. This is where the study of feminism in literary works oriented towards the state of women in literature was born. This study describes aspects of women's image contained in the group of women's short stories by Mochtar Lubis. The method applied to this study is qualitatively decisriptive. Data in research is analyzed by applying content analysis techniques, data collection processes applying library techniques, reading techniques, and recording techniques. The results and findings of the study are four forms of female imagery, namely: (1) physical image, (2) psychic image, (3) family image, and (4) community image. In addition, Mochtar Lubis's women's short story collection book can also be used as an alternative teaching material in short story learning which in the revised edition of the 2013 curriculum is contained in K.D. 3.8 about identifying the value of life contained in short stories and K.D. 3.9 about analyzing elements of short story builders by making the short story collection book as an increase in the wealth of short stories used in learning.

Abstract

Local languages preservation could be afforded by means of conservation or revitalization. To determine whether a language can be conserved or revitalized, its vitality status must be known first. The vitality status of Akit language in Hutan Panjang Village, Rupat Island, Bengkalis Regency is still unknown. Therefore, the research focus is to identify the vitality status of Akit language in Hutan Panjang village. The data were collected from the questionnaires spread to the community of Akit tribe in Hutan Panjang village by means of purposive sampling technique. Other than using the questionnaires, the data were also collected by direct observation of the language situation in Hutan Panjang village. The data were analyzed by using quantitative approach namely scoring respondents’ answers, calculating mean score of each question, calculating cumulative index of each indicator, and calculating total index of its vitality. The research shows that the indicator cumulative index of the number of speakers is 0,74, the language contact is 0,72, the bilinguality is 0,86, the dominating position of the speaker community is 0,74, the language use domain is 0,18, the language attitude is 0,72, the regulation is 0,39, the learning is 0,39, the documentation is 0,44, the new challenge is 0,13. The total index score of Akit Language in Hutan Panjang village which is 0,53 is categorized as “deteriorating”. The research recommends the government of Bengkalis regency and Riau Province to afford the preservation of Akit language whether it is in Hutan Panjang or other villages to prevent decreasing status of Akit language.

Abstract

The Holy Qur'an is an authoritative book that has the authority to govern or make rules that adherents must implement. Because not all religious adherents understand the source language (BSu) in the scriptures, it is necessary to translate the scriptures into the target language (BSa). In linguistic studies, especially semantics is able to bridge the study of translation and the study of the meaning of language in order to produce good translations. In translation, there are six problematic meanings, namely lexical meaning, grammatical meaning, textual meaning, contextual meaning, idiomatic meaning, and socio-cultural meaning. Therefore, a translator, especially an authoritative text translator needs to understand linguistic studies, especially semantic in order to be able to produce quality translations.

Abstract

Based on the observation of the speaking ability of children aged 4-5 years in RA. Miftahul Huda is not sufficient. This study aims to describe interpersonal communication, speaking skills of children aged 4-5 years and the correlation between mother and child interpersonal communication on speaking skills of children aged 4-5 years. The research method used is a quantitative correlational study. Based on the results of the analysis of interpersonal communication categories of high (0%), moderate (100%), and low (0%). The speaking ability of children aged 4-5 years is categorized as high (0%), moderate (100%), and low (0%). There is a significant correlation between mother's interpersonal communication on the speaking ability of children aged 4-5 years, because tcount is greater than ttable worth 0.673>2.021.

Abstract

Register used in the culinary field is very interesting to be studied. The terminologies in the culinary field are commonly using foreign terms and have undergone a shift that contributed to an effect on language shift directly and indirectly. Based on the reasons above, the writer is intending to describe the problems that occur in the language registers used by chefs which have an impact on English for specific work fields. Besides, the language used by the chefs is a part of language variety registers that are interesting to study because the variety of language registers in this field is not found in the other events. Register spoken language is restricted to the use of words and phrases used in spoken language. To achieve the objectives, the author applied a sociolinguistic approach and the research method was descriptive qualitative methods. The authors also make observations by watching some cooking shows on Youtube.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the types of bullying in the novel Manusia-Manusia Teluk by Artie Ahmad. This research belongs to the type of qualitative research with qualitative content analysis methods. The approach used is literary psychology. The source of the data for this research is a novel Manusia-Manusia Teluk by Artie Ahmad. The research data are in the form of words and sentences that represent the types of bullying in the novel Human-Man Teluk by Artie Ahmad. The data were collected using document or library study techniques. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out through three stages consisting of: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the novel Man-Man Teluk by Artie Ahmad represented four types of bullying, namely: (1) physical bullying; (2) sexual harassment; (3) verbal bullying; and (4) mental bullying.

Abstract

In life, one's problems will always arise both internally and externally. This study picks up Puthut's E.A. vs. Gindring Wasted novel titled Life Is a Jerk, and I'm Forced to Enjoy It. The approach used is literary psychology. Research methods are qualitative descriptive. The source of the data is the novel Life Is A Jerk, and I'm Forced to Enjoy It. Research data is in the form of phrases or sentences from the character "I" in the novel Life Is Jerk, and I Am Forced to Enjoy It. Data analysis uses Freud's personality theory (Id, Ego, and Super Ego), Lickona theory (Moral knowledge, moral feelings, and moral behavior), an interactive analysis model from Miles and Huberman.  The results of this study are, 1) The personality of the main character has an honest personality, vindictive, does not want to filter the various offers he gets first, cowardly, lazy to mince words, and likes to forgive. 2) The educational value that can be taken from the novel Life Is Jerk, and I Am Forced to Enjoy It Puthut E.A. vs Gindring Wasted's work that is, obedient, full of sympathy, and the habit to do deeds according to the values and norms that apply by not judging someone.

Abstract

This article will describe how the form of mimicry or imitation was done by the natives to the Dutch and the Dutch to the natives in the novel Student Hidjo by Mas Marco Kartodikromo. The purpose of this study was to determine the intrinsic elements and forms of mimicry or imitation of the characters in the novel. The method used is descriptive with a qualitative form. The approach used in this study is a postcolonial approach. Based on the analysis, several forms of mimicry or imitation were found in the Student Hidjo novel, including; mimicry of the use of language, mimicry of equipment for human life, mimicry of customs, and mimicry of science.
