DIVAGATRA - Jurnal Penelitian Mahasiswa Desain is a regular journal published by the Fakultas Desain, Universitas Komputer Indonesia. DIVAGATRA is published twice a year in April and October. This scientific journal aims to disseminate the scientific works of Diploma (D3), Bachelor (S1) and Master Degree (S2) students in the fields of design, art and culture. The focus and scope of articles that can be published by this journal are in the fields of Interior Design, Visual Communication Design and Graphic Design as well as other design and culture fields.

Abstract

The search for national identity in the development of modern Indonesian art has given birth to many artists with their characteristics. Emiria Soenassa, one of the pioneering female artists, plays a vital role in creating a vision of diversity that unites modern Indonesia today. Soenassa's works reflect her complex life experiences through the perspective of the female gaze, making her an important example of contemporary Indonesian art. This research explores how Soenassa's works position their subjects with a female gaze approach and how this contributes to gender struggles in the fine arts. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis through archival research. The work was analyzed by applying the female gaze theory by Laura Mulvey and the Ways of Seeing concept by John Berger to understand women's perspectives and feminist art in the Indonesian context. This research will provide new insight into the contribution of female artists to the development of modern art in Indonesia.

Abstract

Video games have become a medium of entertainment that is needed by almost everyone. One of the most popular categories of online video games today is MOBA. Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor are examples of the most played MOBA games. These two games are similar in the visual aspect of their hero characters because they are inspired by predecessor characters such as legendary figures, mythological creatures, or even inspired by categories of creatures on earth which are then combined with humans. Mobile Legends has 4 hero characters that are visually similar to Arena of Valor. This makes both games modify, add, or even change the visual elements of each hero to avoid plagiarism. The modification of these heroes makes each character have its own impression/value. Analysis of visual elements is carried out by comparing the visuals of heroes from two games that are similar using matrix system theory so that the impression/value created by each visual can be found. The results of the visual analysis of the heroes of the two games that have been compared will determine which visual character is more suited to the impression presented.

Abstract

Daarut Tauhiid Islamic Boarding School is one of the famous Islamic boarding schools in Bandung which is currently located on Gegerkalong Girang street. Daarut Tauhiid has a very large open area and has many institutional buildings and facilities spread across various areas. However, students and visitors are often confused about finding the location of the building/facility they want to visit. With this problem, a design is needed to inform the Daarut Tauhiid Islamic Boarding School area such as the location of the building/facility through infotainment map media. The purpose of this design is to facilitate and help students and visitors who are interested in finding the location of the building/facility they want to visit in the Daarut Tauhiid Islamic Boarding School area with creative visual information. With the infotainment map, it is hoped that students and visitors will no longer have difficulty finding the location of the building/facility they want to visit, by getting creative visual information.

Abstract

The redesign process to create and develop a new visual identity for Fariz Carwash, a vehicle washing service business, was carried out to ensure that the logo used is more conceptualized and reflects the company's line of work. The previous visual identity was not relevant to the company, with a logo that only consisted of hand visual elements and lacked balance. The method used in this redesign involved identifying issues with the current visual identity, developing a logo concept that reflects the business field, and applying the new logo technically across various media. This process included research into visual elements that can effectively and relevantly represent the business. In addressing this issue, a well-designed visual identity is crucial for building the company's image, enhancing competitiveness, and expanding consumer reach. A thoughtfully conceptualized visual identity is capable of conveying the core meaning of the company and enhancing its reputation in the public eye. The result of the redesign is a new visual identity for Fariz Carwash, including a logo redesign and a name change to better suit the services offered, becoming Fariz AutoMoto. A brand guideline and supporting media were also developed to accompany the logo, ensuring greater consistency for the company. A well-executed visual identity design process can positively impact the company's image and competitiveness in the market.

Abstract

As development progresses, urban land is becoming increasingly scarce. From these problems, land prices in areas that are considered strategic have increased. One of them is Denpasar City, which is experiencing an increase in population due to urbanization and an increase in the economic sector, resulting in high occupancy demand for office facilities, but cannot be fulfilled due to several factors and the concept of the available offices is still conventional. Meanwhile, office activities today tend to be dynamic and do not require extensive office facilities. Through the design of Rental Office in Denpasar with a modular concept, flexible office needs can be met. The application of the space module system will facilitate the optimization of space that can be adjusted according to the activity needs of users, and is equipped with shared facilities. The method used is the programmatic method, which determines a theme and concept from the existing problems and how to solve the problem itself, resulting in the theme and concept of industrial-modular. The expected result with the presence of this design is that it can help entrepreneurs who want to have an office with affordable rent. For a greater impact, it is expected to trigger a trend of entrepreneurship for the younger generation so that it affects the increase in the people's economy.

Abstract

Playing is important for the developmental stages of early childhood, as it can enhance intelligence in strategy planning and build a child's character education. Character education for children can be formed through playing traditional games. Indonesia is a country that has many traditional games that have been played for generations, but their existence is starting to fade due to the rapid flow of modernization and increasingly advanced technology, making today's children prefer playing gadget games and making them mature faster than their age. To prevent children from forgetting traditional games and becoming individualistic, the approach to playing can be started from the closest adults such as teachers and parents. The researcher has chosen one region, namely the Riau Islands, to make an E-Book containing traditional games from the Riau Islands which includes information about the games, number of players, tools and materials, how to make them and how to play them, in order to bring back children's love for traditional games in Indonesia and is expected to have good habits so that they can become children with strong character in their behavior.

Abstract

Dapur Yura is a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) engaged in the Indonesian culinary sector. This MSME serves various typical Indonesian menus, such as yellow rice, geprek chicken, fresh vegetables, and tumpeng rice, which are made with quality ingredients and authentic flavors. Founded by Pipin Swandewi in 2023, Dapur Yura is located at Jalan Raya Baturiti No. 99, Batunya, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Currently, Dapur Yura does not have a strong visual identity to reflect the characteristics of its products. In addition, the available promotional media is still limited, so it has not been able to reach a wider market. This design aims to create a visual identity, such as a logo and Graphic Standard Manual (GSM), which can increase brand awareness. In addition, a marketing strategy is also designed through offline promotional media, such as signboards, banners, and business cards, as well as online media in the form of Instagram content. This study uses observation methods and direct interviews with MSME owners, as well as a SWOT analysis to identify business strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. With this design, Dapur Yura is expected to increase sales, expand market segmentation, and become better known to the public.

Abstract

One of the important elements in visuals is artistry, because artistry greatly affects the composition of the resulting image. The main elements of artistic design are costume character design and make-up arrangement. With the concept of costume design and character make-up, a character has its own characteristics in films, TV shows, and stage theatre. The process of making a character in costume and make up design is the main thing to support the deepening of the character, in the making process a case study is carried out and data collection techniques in the form of content analysis, from online media which is then processed in an intensive and detailed way, to explore the process of designing costume and make up characters. after obtaining character design reference data, the data is processed by deeply analysing the acquisition of data that has been obtained. The important impact of research on the process of costume design and styling cowboy character make-up to descriptively describe each process undertaken.

Abstract

The Pasar Baru Dam has maintained the survival of Tangerang City for a long time. Since the establishment of this building during the Dutch colonial period, this dam has provided many benefits. The Pasar Baru Dam documentary video is a documentary video that discusses the Pasar Baru Dam in Tangerang City. This video contains various kinds of information about the dam. The purpose of this design is to examine a Motion Graphic design that is used to support data and information through visual media which is applied to the Pasar Baru Dam documentary video. The research method used in this design is qualitative, which includes data collection methods in the form of interviews, observation and literature study. The results obtained from this design are in the form of Motion Graphics which present information about the Pasar Baru Dam as supporting media in the documentary video about the Pasar Baru Dam.

Abstract

The ever-growing creativity of product packaging design has an important role in attracting consumers. Tehbotol Sosro is one of the brand that promotes Indonesian culture through an annual packaging design competition, especially in 2024 with one of the winners being Dolanan illustration. The research aims to analyze the 2024 packaging illustration using Robin Landa's design principles. The descriptive qualitative research method with interactive models in data analysis consists of 4 stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the analysis were found to be asymmetrical, there was no visual hierarchy and emphasis, a repetitive rhythm of shapes, lines, and colors gave a monotonous impression, a consistent unity of visual style, and fulfilled the 5 laws of perception organization. The result is an illustration that fulfills almost all design principles. The existence of illustrations of traditional games is not only for aesthetics, but also a part of cultural revitalization by reviving and introducing traditional games with meaningful visuals.
