Abstract

West Sumatera has high fishery potential, particularly for macarel(Thunnus sp), whose presence is influenced by oceanographic factors such as sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll-a concentration, and ocean currents. This study aims to analyze the variability of SST, chlorophyll-a, and currents in West Sumatera waters, identify oceanographic indicators of upwelling events, and examine the relationship between upwelling and potential macarel fishing grounds. Using a qualitative survey approach and ArcGIS 10.8, spatial analysis was conducted to determine potential fishing zones. Results indicate SST fluctuated between 28.1°C (February 2023) and 30,4°C (July 2022), while chlorophyll-a showed seasonal variation, peaking at 0.40 mg/m³ in June 2022. Current patterns are influenced by monsoonal winds and global atmospheric phenomena, with stronger currents during the East season, promoting upwelling and marine productivity. Overlay analysis revealed weak to very weak upwelling occurring periodically. Despite the weak upwelling, West Sumatera remains a highly potential fishing area, supported by positive correlations between SST and chlorophyll-a with macarel fishing zones. Regression analysis shows SST and chlorophyll-a negatively affect macarelcatches, whereas currents have a positive influence. Overall, oceanographic variability significantly impacts fishing potential in West Sumatera.

Abstract

Belawan Ocean Fishing Port (PPS) is one of the largest fishing ports in North Sumatra. PPS Belawan aims to increase the income of fishing communities through the provision of fishing port facilities and infrastructure. The study aims to analyze the optimization of the level of utilization of basic, functional and supporting facilities at the Belawan Ocean Fishing Port and to determine the condition of these facilities. The latest conditions in the field through field surveys show that there are several facilities whose utilization levels are not optimal and whose conditions are not good, such as the port pool. The study was conducted at PPS Belawan, North Sumatra from December 15, 2024 to January 15, 2025. The method used in this study is the survey method. The data collected in the study are primary data in the form of interviews with several sources whose daily activities are related to port facilities, namely basic facilities, functional facilities, and supporting facilities. The data analysis used is descriptive which explains the condition of the port facilities and the level of utilization of port facilities from several facilities which can be calculated systematically. The results of the research show that the Belawan ocean fishing port facilities whose level of utilization can be calculated are still not optimal, even far from optimal, while the conditions of all the facilities required to be in ocean fishing ports, namely those divided into basic facilities, functional facilities and supporting facilities are in quite good condition, and can support port operations quite well.

Abstract

This research aims to maximize the potential of women's entrepreneurship through cooperative institutions by supporting food independence, creating a targeted strengthening strategy model that can be adopted and applied not only in cooperative and SME institutions but also to all women entrepreneurs. The research was conducted at the BMT Trans Mekar Sari Mandiri Consumer Cooperative in Mulia Sari Village, Tanjung Lago District. The research involved at least 10% of the total population, namely 100 female entrepreneurial respondents using a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. The method used in this research is a quantitative method. The data obtained in this research consists of primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through direct interviews in the field with sample cooperative members (women entrepreneurs) using a list of questions contained in the form of a questionnaire. Secondary data was obtained from agencies related to this research, namely the Banyuasin Regency Cooperative Service as well as literature such as cooperative RAT reports, books, journals, articles, and previous research. To analyze the data was used SWOT analysis. The results of the research conclude that strategies that can be implemented include maximizing women's abundant resources in cooperatives, carrying out cadres according to standardization, formulating rules for the protection of women in entrepreneurship, making it easier for women entrepreneurs to access capital, and collaborating with various parties supporting the development of women's entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Research is an innovation in utilizing oyster mushroom baglog waste as a material in water filtration, which is being researched and applied to the community. Water samples were 3 samples for each 3 locations taken form two villages, namely: 1) water used for oyster mushroom cultivation in Payakabung Village (S1), 2) water used for household needs in Payakabung Village (S2), and 3) The Indralaya Combined Cycle Power Plant uses water from the Kelekar River, Tanjung Seteko Village (S3). This study was conducted with three treatments and two replications at each water sample location, as follows: Oyster mushroom baglog waste briquette composition: 10% (A), 20% (B) and 30% (C).  The results showed that. The filtration can increase the pH value from acidic to neutral value and decrease Fe concentration. However, several water quality parameters (TDS, Mn, NO2-N, NO3-N, Cl2, Cd, Pb, F, BOD , COD, total coliform and Escherichia coli) show varying trends but are still in accordance with the quality standards of existing regulations. Technology validation to the community showed that most of participant understood and 100% considered that the system useful as solution for their water problems.

Abstract

Groundwater potential zone mapping is essential for identifying optimal sites for sustainable water infrastructure. This study presents a novel integration of ten environmental factors using remote sensing and GIS-based Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to delineate groundwater potential zones and suitable borehole sites in Esan Central Local Government Area (LGA), Edo State, Nigeria. Unlike previous studies that focused on fewer variables, this research incorporates slope, geology, rainfall, drainage density, lineament density, land use/land cover, elevation, soil type, and proximity to infrastructure. The model was validated using 43 ground-truth locations with an overall accuracy of 85.3% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.78. Results showed that the majority of the area (65.2%) falls under moderate groundwater potential, while only 0.06% lies in the very high category. Borehole suitability analysis identified 43 optimal drilling locations. These findings provide actionable insights for planners and water agencies aiming to improve rural water access through scientifically grounded siting decisions.

Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the stability of three types of retaining walls cantilever, gravity, and sheet pile to address landslide risks along the Enim River in Tanjung Karangan Village, Muara Enim Regency. The village is prone to landslides due to high riverbanks and unstable soil conditions exacerbated by erosion and settlement encroachment. To mitigate these risks, retaining walls are crucial in maintaining slope stability and preventing further erosion. The study utilized Windows Forms methods to perform numerical simulations and evaluate key factors such as the safety factor, sliding resistance, overturning resistance, bearing capacity, and material strength of the designed walls. The cantilever retaining wall design proved effective, achieving safety factors for overturning (1.80), sliding (1.51), and bearing capacity (1.31), making it suitable for implementation at the study location. However, the gravity retaining wall, despite meeting safety requirements for overturning (1.72) and bearing capacity (1.35), failed in sliding, with a safety factor of 1.49, indicating it is not appropriate for this case due to insufficient sliding resistance. The analysis of the sheet pile retaining wall focused on embedment depth and material quality. A steel sheet pile with a length of 9 meters, an embedment depth of 4.82 meters, and material properties of Fy = 450 MPa and E = 2.1 x 105 MPa was determined to be a feasible solution. The findings conclude that both cantilever and sheet pile retaining walls can effectively mitigate slope instability and riverbank erosion, while the gravity retaining wall is not suitable for the given conditions. These results provide valuable insights for future infrastructure development in landslide-prone areas.

Abstract

Abstract: Pelabuhan Dalam Village, Ogan Ilir, is a swamp–lowland agricultural area dominated by rice cultivation. Challenges such as the decline in productive labor, the use of conventional tractors that cause soil compaction, and the low participation of women and the elderly have led to socio-economic and ecological problems. This study integrates a socio-agroecosystem approach through the implementation of semi-autonomous hand tractors to improve technical efficiency and community empowerment. The results show a 31% increase in work efficiency, a 17% reduction in fuel consumption, and a 21% decrease in soil compaction. The participation of women and the elderly also increased, accompanied by a 16% rise in household income per planting season. This integration has proven effective in promoting socio-economic welfare and the sustainability of wetland agriculture in South Sumatra.

Abstract

Log ratio is one of the change detection techniques often used in SAR image-based flood inundation analysis where the differences in characteristics between its polarizations are expected to complement each other and provide optimal predictions. This research aimed to identify the characteristics of the output generated from various potential combinations utilizing log ratio change detection. The study utilized Sentinel-1 GRD IW dual polarization mode before and during the flood event  as its main datasource. Briefly, the data processing consists of preprocessing, collocation, and change detection, which were subsequently followed by analysis and evaluation. The analysis results indicated a highly significant difference in characteristics among the four outputs of log ratio change, where the combinations of VH1/VH2 and VV1/VV2 detected much smaller changes compared to the combinations of VV1/VH2 and VH1/VV2. The VV1/VH2 combination acts as a counterpoint to the VH1/VV2 combination, as the changes identified in VV1/VH2 showed a tendency towards positive values, whereas the opposite is true for VH1/VV2. The evaluation results show that the highest frequency of errors in detecting changes sequentially was observed in the combinations of VH1/VV2, VV1/VH2, VV1/VV2, and VH1/VH2.

Abstract

Moringa oleifera (MO) seeds have a protein with positive charges which act as cationic polyelectrolyte and active substances; rhamnosyloxy benzyl isothiocyanate. These substances are useful to reduce and adsorb pollutants and dyes in textile wastewaters. However, the use of MO seeds as a coagulant is inadequate to improve the wastewater quality. Therefore, in this study, the coagulation performance was improved by the addition of anionic polyarcylamide (PAM). Results revealed that the combination of MO+PAM showed a better performance than MO only. The removal efficiency of wastewater parameters enhanced to 88.83%, 80.58%, 19.90%, and 5.86% for dye, TSS, BOD, and COD, respectively. The addition of PAM in MO coagulant also assisted in reducing the settling time significantly (30 min). Furthermore, SEM images proved that dye solid and MO seeds combine to create clumps or flocs. Then, dye substances were drawn or trapped by the porous nature of the charge-containing MO seeds.  As a whole, the use of MO+PAM give a new notion in treating textile wastewater quality.
