Abstract

This study is motivated by the continuous changes in people’s lives resulting from advances in science and technology, particularly in education. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Information was obtained from the head of the madrasah, the chairman of the madrasah committee, teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using a descriptive narrative technique through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of respondents, methods, and time. The findings reveal that the use of information technology, specifically the WhatsApp application, in the learning process at MA Ma'arif Roudlotuth Tholibin, serves not only as a medium, source, and tool for evaluation but also as a stimulus for student engagement. Students reported feeling less bored, more motivated, and more actively involved in learning. The use of WhatsApp as a learning medium helps overcome students’ limited experiences, fosters interaction with their environment, ensures uniformity of understanding, and supports the development of appropriate basic concepts. Furthermore, it enhances students’ interests, regulates learning pace, and provides a comprehensive learning experience from concrete to abstract concepts. Contribution: This study contributes to the field of educational technology by demonstrating how the integration of a widely accessible communication tool—WhatsApp—can effectively enhance student motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes in a madrasah context. It highlights the potential of low-cost, familiar platforms to bridge technological gaps in education and to create more dynamic and interactive learning environments.

Abstract

This study explores the application of geospatial data in disaster management within Garut Regency through the Geospatial Information System (SIGAP) developed by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). SIGAP integrates diverse datasets, including Digital Elevation Models, drone imagery, and satellite imagery, to support risk mapping and emergency decision-making. Employing a qualitative approach through interviews and documentation, this research highlights not only the system’s role in disaster mitigation but also its potential as an educational tool for fostering disaster awareness in schools. By providing spatial data as contextual learning materials, SIGAP enables geospatial-based disaster literacy, where teachers and students can engage with interactive digital maps and location-based data. The findings suggest that incorporating SIGAP into education enhances early disaster preparedness and promotes disaster literacy that is both data-driven and technology-oriented. This study contributes by (1) demonstrating the practical integration of geospatial data into local disaster management, (2) revealing the dual function of SIGAP as both a mitigation tool and an educational platform, and (3) offering a model for embedding geospatial-based disaster literacy into formal education to strengthen community resilience.

Abstract

Management of New Student Admissions (PPDB) is a crucial element in ensuring that schools can provide optimal educational services. In this context, information technology plays a significant role in introducing schools through various platforms, including websites and social media, to disseminate information about the PPDB process and the flagship programs offered. This study aims to analyze the management of PPDB at SMK Muhammadiyah Petanahan, Kebumen Regency, using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews with stakeholders involved in PPDB (the Principal, PPDB Chairperson, and students), observations of PPDB activities in the field, and documentation studies of promotional archives and new student admission data. The data were analyzed using Miles & Huberman's data analysis technique. The results of the study indicate that SMK Muhammadiyah Petanahan has a good reputation and several flagship programs. However, there are weaknesses in promotion that have not been maximized, especially in the use of social media. The school also faces threats from competition with other schools and societal stigma against vocational schools. Nonetheless, there are significant opportunities, including government support for vocational education and the potential for collaboration with companies for student internships. This study concludes that effective PPDB management at SMK Muhammadiyah Petanahan requires strengthening promotion through information technology, utilizing collaboration opportunities with industries, and improving facilities to address increasingly intense competition.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the quality of the dormitory program (wisma) and students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI BP) among female tenth-grade students at SMA IT Nur Hidayah Sukoharjo. Employing a quantitative correlational approach, the research investigates the extent to which the dormitory program contributes to students’ academic performance in religious studies. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, and analyzed using correlation analysis techniques. The findings show that although the dormitory program demonstrated a moderate level of implementation quality, students’ learning outcomes in PAI BP were relatively low. Furthermore, statistical analysis indicated no significant correlation between the dormitory program and students’ academic performance in PAI BP. These results suggest that while the dormitory program may provide potential benefits for student development, it does not directly influence academic outcomes in the subject studied. This study contributes to the understanding of religious boarding school programs by providing empirical evidence that dormitory initiatives, in their current form, may not significantly impact students’ academic performance in Islamic education. The findings highlight the need for program refinement and the integration of complementary academic support strategies. They also open avenues for further research on mediating factors—such as student motivation, learning environment, and teacher support—that may strengthen the effectiveness of dormitory programs in enhancing both character formation and academic achievement.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of Ulul Ilmi character-based parenting in female dormitories as a strategy to enhance students’ mental health and educational attainment. The Ulul Ilmi concept, which integrates scientific knowledge with Islamic values, is designed to foster positive character development among students, thereby supporting both their psychological well-being and academic success. Employing a qualitative case study approach in the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) dormitory, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation analysis. The findings reveal that Ulul Ilmi character-based parenting creates a supportive environment that strengthens students’ emotional resilience, mental health, and learning motivation, ultimately improving academic achievement. Furthermore, the study highlights the role of spiritual and social reinforcement in shaping constructive peer interactions and promoting holistic self-development. This study contributes to the growing discourse on character education and mental health in higher education by offering an integrative model of parenting in dormitory settings. It demonstrates that embedding Ulul Ilmi values into parenting practices not only enhances students’ well-being but also provides a framework for fostering a healthier, value-driven academic environment. These insights can inform dormitory management policies and character-based education programs in both national and international contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Al-Islah wa Tagyīr method in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) as a means to promote students’ mental health. The Al-Islah wa Tagyīr method, which emphasizes self-improvement and transformation through spiritual and moral approaches, is employed to enhance students’ psychological well-being. A qualitative approach was adopted using a case study method in universities that have applied this method in PAI learning. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the application of the Al-Islah wa Tagyīr method strengthens students’ religious and psychological dimensions, positively influences emotional regulation, enhances self-confidence, and fosters healthier social interactions. Consequently, the method has been shown to be effective in supporting the attainment of improved mental health among students. This research contributes to the enrichment of Islamic Religious Education by integrating mental health perspectives into pedagogical practices. Specifically, it offers a holistic model of PAI learning that not only develops religious knowledge and moral character but also supports psychological resilience and well-being. The study provides theoretical insights into the synergy between spirituality and mental health and offers practical implications for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers in creating more comprehensive educational strategies that address both cognitive and emotional aspects of student development.
