Abstract

Digital learning is rapidly evolving and is increasingly recognized as essential, as it demonstrates adaptability in an era of rapid technological advancement. One area significantly influenced by this development is English education, which has benefited from various learning software and applications targeting the four core language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Among these, mastering speaking skills is crucial in English language learning. However, many students struggle with pronunciation. Engaging and interactive learning media can boost both motivation and learning outcomes. This study is a descriptive qualitative analysis that examines existing digital tools designed to support the development of speaking skills. Using content analysis, the study explores the use of Google Pronunciation, Duolingo, and Cake in teaching English speaking skills to elementary students. These applications provide interactive features and wide accessibility, allowing students to improve their pronunciation and speaking skills independently and in an enjoyable manner. Although these tools share the common goal of supporting English language learning, each has unique strengths and limitations depending on its features and platform. The findings suggest that these technologies can streamline the learning process and significantly enhance student outcomes, making English speaking practice more effective and enjoyable. This study offers an overview of how these digital tools contribute to the improvement of speaking skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Civic Education (Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan or PKn) within the cultural environment of a boarding school to enhance students’ character development, particularly in terms of responsibility and discipline. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research focuses on a single boarding school as the primary subject. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and the principal, as well as document analysis. The findings reveal that Civic Education is not only delivered theoretically in the classroom but is also integrated into students’ daily lives through consistent habituation, school regulations, and exemplary behavior demonstrated by all members of the school community. The boarding school environment, which emphasizes discipline and independence, provides ample space for the internalization of character values, especially responsibility and discipline. These results indicate that a contextual approach to Civic Learning, embedded within a strong school culture, effectively reinforces character formation. Thus, the contextualized implementation of Civic Education in the cultural environment of a boarding school

Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing adolescents’ motivation to learn the Qur'an during puberty within the educational settings of madrasahs and Islamic boarding schools (pesantrens). Puberty represents a crucial stage of human development characterized by profound physical, emotional, and social transitions, which can significantly impact students' engagement in religious education—particularly in the consistent and disciplined practice of Qur’anic learning. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 150 students aged 12–15 across various institutions. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to examine the relationships among key variables, including family support, instructional methods, and psychological conditions, and their influence on students’ motivation. The results reveal that strong family support and interactive, student-centered teaching strategies are positively correlated with higher levels of learning motivation. Furthermore, emotional self-regulation and a clear understanding of the value of Qur’anic memorization play a vital role in sustaining motivation during this transitional phase. The study also highlights common challenges faced by adolescents, such as decreased concentration and mood fluctuations, underscoring the need for adaptive pedagogical approaches and increased collaboration between educators and parents. These findings offer practical insights for religious education practitioners in developing more effective, engaging, and supportive Qur'anic learning programs tailored to the developmental needs of adolescents undergoing puberty.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up of academic supervision conducted by principals at three private Madrasah Aliyah institutions in Bandar Lampung City: MA Darul Falah, MA Hidayatul Islamiyah, and MA TGIA Perkemas. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using two stages: individual case analysis and cross-case analysis. The primary sources of data included school principals, vice principals, teachers, and administrative staff. The findings reveal the following: First, the principals at all three madrasahs consistently conduct supervision planning by reviewing the completeness of instructional administrative documents, such as syllabi, annual and semester programs, lesson plans (RPP), and minimum mastery criteria (KKM) before classroom instruction. Second, academic supervision is conducted semiannually at MA Darul Falah, while it is conducted annually at MA Hidayatul Islamiyah and MA TGIA Perkemas. Third, the analysis of supervision results involves teachers identifying key issues in the teaching process and implementing improvement programs when students do not meet the minimum performance criteria. Fourth, follow-up actions taken by the principals in academic supervision contribute to the improvement of teacher professionalism, which ultimately supports the achievement of educational objectives. This research emphasizes the importance of structured academic supervision as a strategic tool for improving teaching quality and achieving sustainable educational outcomes in private Islamic schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the campus environment on students’ learning interest in Civic Education at Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to explore how both physical and social aspects of the campus environment affect students’ motivation and engagement in academic activities, particularly in Civic Education. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires distributed to students enrolled in the Civic Education program. The findings reveal a strong and significant correlation between the campus environment and students’ learning interest, with a correlation coefficient of 0.82, indicating a very strong relationship. Furthermore, the study finds that students’ learning interest has a strong influence on academic achievement, with a correlation value of 0.70. Another finding indicates a moderate correlation of 0.51 between campus environment and learning interest when analyzed independently. The results of hypothesis testing also show that the F-calculated value (6.33) exceeds the F-table value (3.15), confirming the significance of the relationship. These findings suggest that a conducive and supportive campus environment—encompassing clean and organized facilities, healthy peer interactions, and constructive lecturer-student engagement—can enhance students' interest and academic performance in Civic Education. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the non-academic factors that influence learning motivation and offers practical recommendations for universities to strengthen campus culture and learning infrastructure. It also provides valuable insight for future research in educational psychology and civic education development at the higher education level.

Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores the author's long-term journey in learning English through the lens of Deeper Learning, emphasizing the transformative role of evolving digital technologies. From early reliance on analog tools such as cassette tapes and printed dictionaries to the adoption of artificial intelligence, chatbots, and mobile applications, the narrative traces how each technological era has reshaped language learning practices. Through thematic analysis of personal experiences, three key insights emerge: the expansion of immersive learning via digital access, enhanced learner autonomy through personalized technologies, and the development of hybrid human-AI interactions in language acquisition. The study reveals that technology serves not merely as a supplementary aid but as an active mediator that cultivates critical thinking, collaboration, and communicative competence. The key contribution of this study lies in providing a reflective, experience-based perspective that bridges personal narrative with theoretical understanding, offering valuable insights for educators, curriculum designers, and language learners on how to meaningfully integrate technology into language education. These insights call for a reimagining of English language classrooms integrating formal instruction with learner-driven, technology-enabled ecosystems.

Abstract

Learning the pronunciation of letters in reading the Qur'an has a very important role in maintaining the authenticity of the meaning of the verses of the Qur'an. Mistakes in pronouncing the hijaiyah letters can significantly change the meaning of the verses, which has an impact on the understanding and practice of Islamic teachings. Along with the development of digital technology, the use of social media, such as TikTok, offers great potential to improve tajwid learning in a more interactive and accessible way to a wider audience. This study aims to examine the application of the tajwidul method in learning the Qur'an through the TikTok Live platform, with a focus on detecting and correcting errors in pronouncing hijaiyah letters in real time. The research method used is qualitative with a case study design, which includes an analysis of 13 TikTok videos of Ustadz Gifari Putra and direct observation during the TikTok Live session. The results of the study show that direct interaction through TikTok Live is effective in improving students' understanding of correct pronunciation, with the help of clear visualization of mouth and tongue movements. However, technical constraints such as signal quality and limited time to provide personal attention remain challenges in implementing this method. This study contributes to the development of tajwid learning in the digital era, and offers recommendations to improve the quality of tajwid teaching through social media, especially TikTok, by optimizing interactive and visualization features.

Abstract

This study investigates the relevance of Paulo Freire’s concept of conscientization within Islamic religious education. In many traditional Islamic educational institutions, teaching methods are still heavily rooted in rote memorization and authoritative instruction, with minimal space for critical engagement, dialogical learning, and social reflection. This condition poses a challenge to the goal of Islamic education, which is to form holistic individuals who are spiritually devout, ethically responsible, and socially aware. Freire’s educational philosophy, which promotes dialogical methods, problem-posing strategies, and praxis—the union of reflection and action—offers a transformative pedagogical framework that can be integrated with Islamic values. Through a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes selected scholarly literature from 2018 to 2023, focusing on works related to critical pedagogy, Islamic educational reform, and humanistic learning. The findings demonstrate strong philosophical and pedagogical parallels between Freire’s conscientization and core Islamic concepts such as ta’dib, ijtihad, shura, and amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. While Freire’s secular-humanist orientation may raise theological concerns, this study shows that with contextual adaptation, his ideas can enrich Islamic pedagogy rather than contradict it. The study proposes the development of an “Islamic critical pedagogy” that synthesizes Freirean methodology with Islamic ethical foundations. Such integration can revitalize Islamic education by promoting critical thinking, moral consciousness, and active citizenship among learners. Ultimately, the research contributes to the discourse on educational reform in Muslim societies by offering a pedagogical model that is both theologically grounded and socially transformative.
