Tenses are the bases in learning English. Whether we agree or not learning tenses is recommended for students to master English. Students at SMK Cokroaminoto Kotamobagu still find tenses difficult. That is the main reason of the researcher to conduct this research. This research aims at finding out whether color symbols is effective or not for students to learn tenses, in paricular Simple Past Tense. This is a pre-experimental research with pre and post - tests design. There are 13 tenth-grade students involved in this research. Pre-test and post-test were used in obtaining the data. The data in this research were analyzed statistically using mean score formula. The result of this study shows that the scores of Post-Test’s is higher than those of Pre-Test. The researcher could say that there is significant difference in the students’ understanding about Tenses by using Color Symbols. These results led to a conclusion that Color Symbols are considered effective to improve students’ ability to understand Simple Past Tense.

The purpose of this study was to reveal how the concept of social class appeared and how it affected the main character and her relationship with others in Theodore Dreiser’s Sister Carrie. This study was made using qualitative approach. In analysing this study, the researcher used M. H. Abraham’s mimetic theory. The result of this research reveal that there are three kinds of social class that the characters mainly grouped into which are the lower, middle, and upper classes. The groupings are made based on the situation of the characters jobs and income, living conditions, social circle and material wealth. Social class affected the main character by changing her point of view as she adapted to live in the late 19th century Industrialized Chicago. This affected her relationship with other people in a way that she would break off her relationship with others if they are no longer useful to her to get what she wants the most which are wealth and fame, which in the end she regretted

This study aims to uncover the involvement of millennials in the Black Lives Matter movement, which is also called The Millennial Movement against racial discrimination in Angie Thomas' novel, The Hate U Give. The researcher uses qualitative methods. The data are presented descriptively. The mimetic approach is used in this study to help the researcher examine the representation of the movement in the novel and its relationship with real-world movement. The results of the study indicate that millennials play an important role in the movement by participating in various forms of activities such as demonstrations, social actions, and social media to fight against social inequality, injustice, and discrimination towards Khalil and the black community. The implications of the research on the novel emphasize the importance of the younger generation in speaking up for justice in society. The novel encourages the younger generation to be courageous and use their voices to advocate for a more equitable and inclusive world. It teaches us that positive change can happen when we all work together, and that the younger generation can play a pivotal role in shaping a better future for us all.

The purpose of this study was to describe the students' anxiety when speaking English in the eleventh grade at SMK Kristen 2 Tomohon. The goal of this study is to determine the extent of students' anxiety and the causes when speaking English. The qualitative method was employed in this study data gathered by observation and interview. According to the study's findings, 2 students (10%) are relaxed, 7 students (35%) reported mild anxiety, and 11 students (55%) are experiencing moderate anxiety. The factors cause anxiety are, they felt intimidated by the teacher, they did not understand or the material was difficult, they felt there was no preparation, or because the teacher did not explain clearly. It can be concluded that the majority of students have nervousness when speaking in English. It is crucial for English teachers to be paying attention. The teacher must provide encouragement to the students and speak confidently

The purpose of this research was to ascertain whether or not an approach using small-group discussion aided by video-based media may be effective in enhancing students' reading abilities. In order to boost students' reading abilities, an activity in which they work in small groups to watch videos of the topic being covered is used. Researchers used quantitative research through pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design and the sample of this study was class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Eris totaling 20 students. In this study, researchers employed a multiple-choice questionnaire. The average score formula was used for the statistical analysis of the study's data. Students' average score improved from 36 on the pre-test to 78 on the post-test, according to the statistics. Student performance improved by a mean of 42 points between the pre- and post-tests. Students' post-test scores, on average, were found to be greater than their pre-test scores. The study's author, therefore, drew the inference that including video-based, small-group discussions into the process of teaching reading may be effective.

This study aimed to analyze how sexism are expressed in JPNN.com and TribunNews.com online news headlines. This research used qualitative research, where instead of using numbers, the data collected were words and quotes. In addition, the researcher used stylistic feminist discourse analysis by Sara Mills to analyze sexism in women-related headlines on JPNN.com and TribunNews.com online media. From this study, it could be concluded that there were three forms of sexism that discriminate against female characters in JPNN.com and TribunNews.com news headlines. The three forms of sexism were women as perpetrators of immoral acts, women as objects, and women as inferior. Realizing the shortcomings in this study, the researcher hoped that further research that has the same object of study can be better. Also hopefully that attitudes that refer to sexism in journalism and society can be eliminated.

Learning problem found by SMP N 5 Tondano is that teachers often use conventional learning, namely the lecture method, so that students listen more to explanations from the teacher, so that boredom arises while studying. Teachers are often more dominant in the class compared to students, who only receive material explanations. Students are less active in learning because they are not interested in the learning methods used by the teacher and do not pay attention to what is conveyed by the teacher. Learning that uses the method can interest students as well as increase results or objective learning. Media songs, are still Not yet crowded and used by teachers, then according researchers use songs as learning media with the objective of increasing the ability of students' English pronunciation. Song media is also very well used because the teacher always follows the development of the student. the purpose of this study was to discuss the effect of using song media to improve the English pronunciation of class VII students at SMP Negeri 5 Tondano. the method used in this study was the experimental method. The population in the study were all students in class VII. the samples were taken from one class and one group pretest and posttest and were analyzed using the t-test > 1.68, then h1 is accepted and h0 is rejected, meaning that there is an effect of using songs on students' pronunciation results. Conclusion The use of improvised song media results in the English pronunciation of class VII students at SMP Negeri 5 Tondano

This study aims to show how the difficulties faced by English students from Sangihe in learning English, especially in terms of speaking ability. This research was done by using qualitative method. The data comes from Sangihe students that is currently studying in English Education Department in Universitas Negeri Manado. In collecting the data the researcher used interview technique which involves 7 students that are originated from Sangihe. The data was analyzed by using Miles & Huberman’s method; data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result of the study shows that mother tongue does affect students’ learning ability especially in learning speaking of English language. It shows that mother tongue impacts students psychologically as they feel afraid and not confident in speaking English. Furthermore, it affects the student speaking ability as they find it harder to learn English grammar and vocabulary while having Sangihe as their mother tongue, and, their environment also affects them as they found people are commenting if they falsely utter an English word. It can be concluded that mother tongue does affect someone’s ability in speaking English psychologically, grammatically and environmentally. Psychologically, it makes the student shy and not confident. Grammatically, it affects their pronunciation and environmentally, it affects their behavior of being criticized

The purpose of this study was to examine whether the use of pictures could increase students' vocabulary. Students of SMP Kristen 17 Tatengesan for the 2022/2023 school year (including 20 students of seventh grade) were selected for this study. Pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test was used in this research. This study consisted in four meetings. Prior to treatment (used pictures), the first researchers performed a pretest. After treatment (used picture), students were given a post-test. Data collection technique used test as instrument. That is objective in terms of matching the item 5 numbers, completion 5 numbers and true/false 10 numbers, The total is 20 numbers. The result of this study found that pictures was effective showed the scores post-test (78.52) was higher those of pre-test (50.5). This suggests that the use of pictures is considered can effectively increase students vocabulary.

This research discusses about Interferencing a novel called Around the Â world in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. The work tells the story of two travelers that grow to a trio and then a foursome as they fight their way through countless obstacles to reach home in time.Â The work focuses of a wealthy british bachelor, named Phileas Fogg, who spend his days gambling with friends at the social club and spent his night alone. Around the World in Eighty DaysÂ was published in 1873. The story follows two travelers that grow to a trio and then a foursome as they fight their way through countless obstacles to reach home. This research divided in three parts, first one is what should have we interference on this novel, the second is describing phileas foggâ€™s character, and the third is what makes the main character want to fulfill his dreams to be able to travel around the world.
