Abstract

Gender equality is still an important and strategic issue to discuss in Indonesia. This study aims to describe the gender role attitudes of students in the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education (PTMA) environment because PTMA students are agents of change and are tasked with spreading the Muhammadiyah Islamic preaching committed to gender equality and justice. The research method used quantitative with respondents in this study totaling 200 students in various PTMA, 136 women and 64 men. The instruments used in this study were constructed by the researcher and consisted of five dimensions: religion, marriage and family, social work, work, and education. The results of this study indicate that in general, the gender role attitudes of students in the PTMA environment are more egalitarian than traditional gender roles, meaning that they already have a gender role perspective based on equality. However, there is still a gender bias, such as the view of the same potential between women and men in education; religious authority (ulama) towards women is not the same as men; and opportunities for public leadership for women. The implications of the findings of this study will be discussed further.

Abstract

This research described the social construction of the belief system on the identity of the ghost Kuyang in Kalimantan. This research argues that ghost stories have constructed the ghost's identity of gender and place. The gender always represents the ghost as a woman while the place represents the Kuyang ghost as a Dayak or Malay tribe in Kalimantan. This research formulates how the Kuyang ghost story can establish a social construction of the belief system on identity in Kalimantan. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method by collecting data through storytelling in the community and on YouTube social media. The results of this study show that: 1) female ghost stories represent a patriarchal system for women; 2) the development of a belief system in local communities; 3) community responses through tradition and religion; and 4) social construction shapes the identity of Ghost Kuyang in Kalimantan. The development of the social construction of the belief system in the ghost of Kuyang can bring a new discourse on identity following ethnic, religious, and culture in Kalimantan.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate differences and correlations in engagement levels within university organizations among PMII members across Islamic State and private higher education institutions in Cirebon, as well as differences in their self-actualization. The research employs a quantitative approach with systematic random sampling. A sample of 285 participants was selected from a population of 1070 PMII members at these institutions with analysis techniques involving the Mann-Whitney U test for the first and second research questions, and Spearman’s correlation for the third. Results indicated a statistically significant difference in engagement levels within organizations between Islamic state and private higher education (U = 7193.500, z = -2.263, p = .024), suggesting higher engagement among Islamic state students. However, no significant difference was found in self-actualization levels between these groups (U = 5128, z = -.166, p = .868). Moreover, a strong positive correlation was observed between engagement levels within organizations and self-actualization among PMII members in both Islamic state and private institutions (rs = .525, p < .001).
