Abstract

China is the country that has provided the most assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic to countries in the Southeast Asian Region. Some concrete efforts have been made by China such as diplomacy of masks, vaccines, and Medical Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against all countries in the Southeast Asian region, including Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. These countries believe that China's humanitarian assistance is very much needed in this Covid-19 pandemic situation. However, in the course of this series of efforts, it gave rise to speculative assumptions from the international community. So that in the end, from this paper the author tries to answer the question of what is behind China's efforts to make foreign aid efforts to countries in the Southeast Asian Region using the concept of foreign aid from Maria Andersson. Maria explained that there are humanitarian, economic and socio-political motives in influencing a country's foreign aid. This is what the author will explain in this paper, in an effort to answer questions related to China's background in expanding its humanitarian assistance in the Southeast Asian Region. It is hoped that this paper can be used as a comparative material for similar research and as a contribution to ideas for interested parties.

Abstract

Satisfaction or dissatisfaction is the conclusion of the interaction between expectations and experiences after using the services or services provided. However, more service satisfaction assessments are done with survey calculations that explain relationships that are difficult to interpretation. Data mining with the C4.5 Algorithm technique can create decision trees that handle discrete type attributes and discrete numeric types, as a result of which the resulting data is easily interpreted and has an acceptable level of accuracy. This study aims to find out and analyze how much student satisfaction levels to teacher performance by using the C4.5 Algorithm method. The data was taken from a sample of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang students. The results of this study showed that SMA Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang students were satisfied with the services provided with a percentage of student satisfaction rate of 90.4% with tangible (physical evidence) as an influential dimension determining the level of student satisfaction. This research has contributed to enriching problem-solving solutions using the C4.5 Algorithm. It is hoped that the results of this study can be applied to improve teacher performance so that the services provided to students can be better and become a reference to improve student satisfaction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the verbal and visual modes that are presented in a video advertisement. This study also aims at finding the relation of these two modes in representing a writing skill's importance in a video advertisement. The method that is used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method that used a Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) as an approach. The theory of multimodality by Kress and Van Leeuwen as well as the theory of systemic functional grammar by Halliday and Matthiessen were applied to analyze the data. The data was collected using observation of a video advertisement; the study case is Grammarly’s YouTube advertisement entitled “Save Time Editing Papers | Grammarly Makes One Click Simpler”. The results show that the combination of verbal and visual modes could represent the writing skills importance thoroughly in the video advertisement. It was discovered that the importance of writing skills was clearly depicted in the video advertisement through the analysis of visual modes using representational, interactive, and compositional meaning. This finding is also supported by the analysis of verbal modes using the systemic functional grammar theory, which supports the meaning created in visual mode. Therefore, it can be concluded that the visual and verbal modes can show the representation of writing skills’ importance in a video advertisement clearly. This study is expected to be a reference for further research that is related to this topic.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of critical thinking on the use of students' critical thinking skills in essay writing. This study uses an experimental study conducted on Indonesian students from the Department of Informatics Engineering divided equally into the experimental group and the control group. While participants in the experimental group were taught to write with critical thinking skills, others were taught to write without reference to these skills. Participants in both groups took a pre-test and posttest to evaluate the development of their use of critical thinking skills in argumentative writing. Data that has been analyzed quantitatively shows that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group. The students' ability to use more credible evidence, answer alternative arguments, support conclusions, and maintain a logical flow of ideas in their essays did not reach the level of mastery in the posttest, but the average level they achieved was convincing considering the short training time they had. Critical Thinking integration for a longer time can yield satisfactory results.
