Abstract

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly increased in recent years, offering both opportunities and challenges. While AI enhances efficiency across various sectors, it also introduces new risks, particularly in the realm of cybercrime. This study explores the potential threats posed by AI-driven cybercrime activities in the context of the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Indonesia. Using a qualitative method with literature review and document analysis, the research identifies three key threat domains: cybersecurity, physical security, and political security. AI enables cybercriminals to launch sophisticated and hard-to-detect attacks, such as phishing, misinformation campaigns, and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. These threats could disrupt electoral processes, manipulate voter behaviour, and compromise the integrity of election outcomes. The study highlights how AI-driven attacks can also exploit Internet of Things (IoT) devices and spread deepfakes and political bots to influence public perception. With the rapid advancement of AI, traditional cybersecurity measures may struggle to keep pace, making it imperative for authorities and cybersecurity experts to strengthen monitoring and response capabilities. This research emphasizes the need for robust strategies to mitigate AI-driven cyber threats and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article compares and contrasts the handling of separatist movements and regional rebellions in Indonesia. As a plural society, the Indonesian state has encountered challenges from its margins almost since its birth. However, the challenges do not necessarily always come in the form of secessionism. Some regionally based rebellions also sought to change the state foundation or the way to run the state. This article examines two cases of regional rebellions throughout the nation’s history, i.e., Aceh and East Timor. It contends that Indonesia’s margins revolted from the combination of deprivation factors, such as ideological, economic, political, and identity, which got sidelined as Indonesia spurred on the nation-building effort. The handling of the rebellions has also been varied, with military suppression as the default approach before Reformasi. Reformasi has widened the range of choices of the state in dealing with the separatist challenges.

Abstract

This study explored the effects of visualization and phonetic processing on comprehension and memory retention in learning Mandarin as a second language. Through an experiment involving three conditions: pinyin, black-and-white pictures, and colored pictures, the study evaluated participants’ accuracy and reaction time in completing visual and phonetic-based tasks. The results showed that visual cues, especially colored pictures, increased response accuracy and decreased reaction time compared to pinyin and black-and-white pictures. These findings suggest that visualization not only aids vocabulary recall but also facilitates faster cognitive processing, potentially reducing students’ cognitive load. Implications for Mandarin teaching include the importance of using appropriate visual teaching materials to support learning and memory retention at the beginner level. These results contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of multimodal learning and the importance of tailoring teaching methods to learners’ cognitive characteristics.

Abstract

Damage to forests outside Java, including West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is largely due to the absence of forest management units (FMUs) at the site level, resulting in open access areas prone to illegal logging and deforestation. The establishment of FMUs is mandated by Law 41/1999 and Government Regulations 6/2007 and 3/2008. Since 2008, NTB has initiated FMU development through area designations and the issuance of governor regulations. By 2016, four provincial FMUs and nine district FMUs were established. However, Law 23/2014 shifted forest management authority to the provincial level. This study examines the implementation of FMU development policies in NTB, applying Van Meter and Van Horn's public policy theory, a qualitative descriptive approach, and ASOCA strategy analysis, verified through triangulation techniques. The findings highlight several supporting factors, including forest management authority, regional leadership commitment, local regulations, and long-term planning. Conversely, challenges include reduced authority under Law 11/2020, limited budget capacity, widespread encroachment, and weak provincial-district coordination. Despite these challenges, the policy implementation in NTB is considered effective, evidenced by the establishment of 15 FMUs and one nature park, as well as the enactment of Regional Regulation 14/2019 on forest management. A new AN KHAN policy strategy model is proposed to accelerate FMU development in the region.

Abstract

This research explores the impact of social media promotion, customer engagement, and marketing innovation on the marketing performance of MSMEs in Bali, with e-marketplace as a mediating variable. Using a sample of 200 MSMEs utilizing balimall.id, the SEM-PLS results indicate that social media promotion and marketing innovation significantly enhance marketing performance, while customer engagement does not have a direct impact. However, what distinguishes this study is the finding that the e-marketplace mediates the relationship between these three variables and marketing performance, strengthening the effects of promotion and innovation. The novelty of this research lies in the strategic role of the e-marketplace as a catalyst in the MSME digital ecosystem, where effective innovation and social media promotion can significantly improve marketing outcomes. This study is compelling as it provides new insights into how MSMEs can maximize the potential of digitalization through e-marketplace platforms to compete in a dynamic market.

Abstract

Nowadays, the trend of cosmetic usage is not only significant for women, but men have also become a substantial segment of the cosmetic market. “Along with this, maintaining consumer loyalty has become a major challenge for many companies. Previous studies have examined the factors influencing repurchase intention, but there has been no research on the role of consumer satisfaction in mediating the influence of these factors. Empirical data were gathered using questionnaires provided to 168 respondents and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach with SmartPLS. The findings of this study demonstrate that consumer satisfaction can strengthen the connection between product quality, service quality, and brand image and their influence on repurchase intention. These findings are expected to provide valuable contributions to cosmetic industry players in formulating effective strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and promote purchase loyalty.” This study is also anticipated to serve as a valuable resource for future researchers who aim to explore and analyze the various factors that impact consumers' intention to make repeat purchases within the cosmetics industry.
