Abstract

In this paper we interrogate the teachers training programme offered at an institution of higher learning in Namibia. We used Empiricism to explore the authentic practices used in the transformational processes exposed to 3rd and 4th year mathematics and science student teachers. We emphasized three important constructs that guide the scholarship of teaching, namely standards of excellence, virtues and values to guide IK integration in the curriculum. We conclude that student teachers understood the meaning and importance of IK. However, the teacher preparation curriculum did not include aspects related to IK, it was left at their own discretion to adopt. We recommend appropriate strategies for adoption to implement and guide the required standards and values for curriculum development.

Abstract

Teachers are the final mediators of the school curriculum, and their competence level largely impacts students' learning outcomes. This quantitative study aimed to explore the mediation of teacher productivity with the instrumentation of in-service training (INSET) while adopting Social Learning Theory (SLT) as the theoretical framework. A descriptive survey research design was adopted while a multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select samples from a population of 7538 public secondary school teachers and 203 principals in secondary schools in Ekiti state, Nigeria. The sample for this study consisted of 396 participants which comprised of 360 teachers and 36 school principals. Data were gathered and analysed through In-service Training Experience and Impact Questionnaire (ITEIQ) and Teachers' Productivity Questionnaire (TPQ) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation respectively. The study revealed that INSET moderately enhances teacher productivity. The study recommends providing continuous and regular in-service training to teachers in Nigeria to improve their productivity. In addition, such training programs could be designed based on the principles of Social Learning Theory through the instrumentation of collaborative learning, peer mentoring, and feedback mechanisms.

Abstract

This study explored the potential of Twitter to transform and enrich geography teacher education in South Africa for the digital age. This mixed methods study utilized content analysis of tweets from selected geography education Twitter handles and focus group discussions with South African student teachers using Twitter. The research design involved training student teachers on using Twitter for curriculum purposes over eight weeks, followed by focus groups to capture their experiences and perspectives. Findings suggest Twitter offers valuable opportunities for networking, accessing resources, and fostering global connections among geography educators. However, realizing Twitter's full potential requires thoughtful implementation strategies, including usage policies, educator training, and support for community building. As an exploratory study, it provides initial evidence that integrating Twitter into teacher training could strengthen geography education in South Africa by equipping educators with expanded networks and professional development avenues. Nevertheless, structured implementation and ongoing collaboration are crucial for leveraging Twitter to bridge divides and align training with 21st-century contexts. Further comparative and longitudinal studies can build on these preliminary insights to optimize the use of Twitter in transforming geography education for the digital age in South Africa and beyond.

Abstract

This study emphasizes the importance of adding life skills education to school curricula, recognizing that not all students' paths will lead to traditional employment. While not all students will become doctors, engineers, or lawyers, they will all go through a process of growth. Every individual needs key life skills necessary for resilience, adaptation, and effective management of daily life. This study aims to explore the important role of education in preparing the developing generation to live at the desired level by emphasizing the importance of empowering schools to shape a more productive future. This study utilizes the case study research approach. In this technique, researchers remain outside of the situation under investigation, focusing on the examination of many aspects and components that may interact. as a result, a holistic education, active families, and a developing curriculum with 21st-century skills enable children to overcome social barriers and prepare them for postsecondary education and the workforce. This study proposes a holistic strategy that emphasizes life skills alongside academic coursework, developing individuals who are adaptable and ready to face future challenges by revisiting the traditional educational tripod.

Abstract

This research aims to examine improving students' critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes using the Guided Discovery Learning learning model. Critical thinking and scientific attitudes are important aspects to develop in learning, especially in science learning in elementary schools. Critical thinking is part of the cognitive work process and a scientific attitude develops affective aspects. A quasi-experimental study using a pretest-posttest control group design is the research methodology. Students in the fifth grade at SDN Bukit Duri 05 in South Jakarta served as the research subjects. The control group received therapy using the Free Discovery Learning learning model, whereas the experimental group received treatment using the Guided Discovery Learning learning model. According to the study's findings, there was no difference between the experimental class's and the control group's early critical thinking skills. The results showed that there was no difference between the experimental class and the control class in terms of early scientific attitude abilities. Additionally, compared to students in the control class, those in the experimental class showed a different growth in critical thinking abilities. Lastly, it was discovered that the experimental class and the control class had different rising scientific views.
