Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Mobile Legends game on learning interest and prayer discipline among Islamic Religious Education students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. As a highly popular game among students, Mobile Legends not only serves as entertainment but also influences academic and spiritual aspects. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenology method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six active players and participatory observation, both directly and via digital platforms. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, and validity was ensured through triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that excessive involvement in playing negatively affects learning interest. Students often postpone studying, lose concentration, and experience reduced academic motivation, particularly when striving for higher in-game rankings. Moreover, gaming habits influence prayer discipline; many respondents admitted to delaying or missing prayers due to gameplay. Some expressed guilt and discomfort after neglecting this religious duty. This phenomenon highlights that without strong self-control and effective time management, Mobile Legends can disrupt students' academic performance and spiritual commitments. Therefore, collective awareness is essential to promote wise technology use, ensuring it supports rather than hinders their primary roles as learners and devout individuals.

Abstract

Speed Rail (KCIC) project, developed under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The research addresses the urgency of assessing whether large-scale infrastructure projects financed through bilateral loans risk creating long-term debt dependency, drawing lessons from Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port case. The objectives are to evaluate the potential of the KCIC to drive economic growth while identifying financial vulnerabilities, and to explore how such insights can contribute to civic education and policy literacy in Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive case study approach is applied, using secondary data from government reports, academic literature, and credible media sources, framed within dependency theory and the debt-trap diplomacy discourse. Findings reveal that although the KCIC has potential benefits for connectivity and investment attraction, significant cost overruns and reliance on long-term foreign loans may expose Indonesia to fiscal risks similar to those experienced by Sri Lanka. Policy recommendations include diversifying financing sources, enhancing project governance, and embedding infrastructure analysis into public policy and strategic leadership education. These measures can strengthen national capacity to negotiate and manage large-scale infrastructure projects, aligning economic development with sustainable sovereignty.

Abstract

Self-confidence is a crucial psychological attribute that shapes students’ academic performance, social interactions, and personal development. Factors such as life experience, self-evaluation, and beauty privilege play a significant role in influencing how college students in Yogyakarta perceive and express their confidence. This study aims to determine the effect of life experience, self-evaluation, and beauty privilege on the self-confidence of female college students in Yogyakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sample consisted of 300 female students from several universities in Yogyakarta who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used is a scale that has been validated and tested for reliability. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that the three independent variables of life experience, self-evaluation, and beauty privilege simultaneously had a significant effect on the self-confidence of female students. Partially, self-evaluation contributes the most, followed by life experience, while beauty privilege has a smaller but still significant influence. The findings suggest that self-confidence is not only determined by internal factors such as self-evaluation, but also by life experiences and perceptions of physical attractiveness. This research contributes to the development of strategies to increase the confidence of female college students through psychological and social approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the philosophical reasons for choosing the International Baccalaureat (IB) programme as an internationalization strategy at Yayasan Lembaga Pendidikan Al Firdaus (YLPAF) and find out the preparation using the IB curriculum. This research is qualitative research with action research methods. Data collection techniques with observations, interviews, and documents. Those studied were YLPAF directors, principals and teachers. Data analysis used interactive analysis. Data validity methods used with triangulation of data sources. The results of this study are the philosophical reasons why YLPAF chose the IB curriculum because the IB program teaches character and IB does not change the initial concept of Al Firdaus as an inclusive and Islamic school. The preparations made by YLPAF in preparing for IB authorization are as follows: improving human resource skills at YLPAF, especially in the fields of IT and English, train all stokeholders towards the IB programme, carry out all activities recommended in the IB programme so that the concept of IB is more quickly recognized and absorbed by YLPAF.

Abstract

Competitive advantage in today’s global era is largely determined by how human resources (HR) are managed and developed, including within the field of education. Rapid changes in global society have created interactions across countries in the economic, social, technological, and educational sectors, thereby increasing cross-cultural interdependence. However, research on the role of Indonesian local culture in HR and educational development remains relatively limited. In fact, the failure of many HR management and development practices is often linked to incompatibility with local cultural values. This article presents a systematic literature review to understand the development of research on the influence of local culture in Indonesia on HR and educational development. The systematic literature review method is applied to examine and synthesize previous studies in a structured manner. The findings indicate that integrating local culture into HR and educational development strategies enhances effectiveness, sustainability, and contextual relevance. Moreover, this study highlights the importance of adapting HR and educational management practices to local wisdom and values to address global challenges while strengthening national identity. This review is expected to provide contributions for academics, practitioners, and policymakers in designing more contextual, inclusive, and sustainable HR and educational development strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of leadership, workload, and work environment on job satisfaction among healthcare workers at the Cibiru District Community Health Center in Bandung and examine their relevance to education and competency development. The research method used was quantitative descriptive research with a population of all employees at the Cibiru District Community Health Center in Bandung, totaling 74 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicate that leadership has a positive and significant influence on employee work performance. The work environment also has a positive and significant influence on employee performance. However, workload does not show a significant influence on job satisfaction, although the direction of the relationship is negative. Simultaneously, the variables Leadership, Workload, and Work Environment significantly influence employee job satisfaction, with 44% of the variation in work levels explained by this model. These findings confirm that formal education, leadership training, and a healthcare curriculum that integrates managerial and leadership aspects are important foundations in improving healthcare worker satisfaction and performance. This study implies the need to strengthen the educational dimensions and healthcare curriculum to develop effective leaders, create a supportive work environment, and encourage improved service quality in healthcare centers.

Abstract

This study investigates the semantic translation strategies employed in the meaning shifts of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale Les Souhaits Ridicules, translated into Indonesian. Utilizing a qualitative approach and Chesterman’s 1997 translation strategy theory, the research identified and classified semantic techniques including synonymy, paraphrasing, antonymy, converses, emphasis, distribution, and hyponymy shifts. Analysis of 92 data points conclusively revealed  that paraphrasing (43.48%) and synonymy (27.17%) were the most prevalent strategies, with emphasis shifts also significantly present (17.39%). These findings indicate that meaning shifts are executed functionally and adaptively, aiming to preserve acceptability and readability for young Indonesian readers without compromising the story’s moral message or narrative essence. By comparing these results with prior studies, this research offers a substantial contribution to the exploration of semantic strategies in children’s literature translation, underscoring the importance of translator flexibility and cultural sensitivity. The study’s limitations, particularly its scope and singular focus on semantic strategies, provide clear directions for future research into cross-linguistic and cross-cultural translation within the fairy tale genre.

Abstract

The use of the internet and digital devices has become an important part of teenagers' daily lives, raising concerns about the increasing phenomenon of online gaming addiction. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control and online gaming addiction among junior high school students in Padang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design and involves 125 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Game Addiction Scale (reliability = 0.851) and the Self-Control Scale (reliability = 0.793). Data analysis was performed using Pearson's product-moment correlation technique with the help of the SPSS 20 for Windows program. The results showed a significant positive correlation between self-control and online game addiction (r = 0.483; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that adolescents with high levels of self-control also show a high tendency toward online gaming behavior, meaning that self-control in the context of adolescence does not always function as a protective factor but can be adaptive to social and digital environmental pressures.
