Abstract

The improvement of learning quality in Indonesia is greatly influenced by teacher performance and the effectiveness of principal leadership. This study aims to analyze the role of participatory leadership by principals in building teachers' intrinsic motivation and its impact on learning quality. We obtained data using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with teachers and principals, along with document analysis. The selection of research subjects used purposive sampling because the subjects had to meet several established criteria. To make the qualitative data easier to understand, thematic analysis was employed in this study's data analysis. The results of the study showed that the implementation of participatory leadership through teacher involvement in decision-making and granting autonomy was positively correlated with increased teacher intrinsic motivation (autonomy, competence, connectedness). We observed that teacher intrinsic motivation contributes to improving learning quality through teaching innovation, student interaction, and the development of relevant materials. The principal's participatory leadership was significant in fostering teacher internal motivation, which had a positive impact on the quality of school learning. The implications of the study emphasize the importance of adopting participatory leadership as a strategy for empowering teachers and improving the quality of education.

Abstract

Perspective drawing is a fundamental skill in art education that plays a crucial role in developing visual abilities, creativity, and the understanding of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional plane. However, many students experienced difficulties in grasping the abstract concept of perspective, particularly in determining the horizon line and vanishing points, which was attributed to the limitations of conventional learning media. Therefore, this study examined the application of the Vision Frame learning media in teaching perspective drawing techniques to students at Islamic Middle School. The research employed observation and questionnaire methods to collect data on students' perceptions of the effectiveness of Vision Frame as a visual aid in the perspective drawing learning process. This research was conducted at the Islamic Middle School (SMPIT) Darul Fikri Makassar. The data analysis techniques included both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The analysis revealed that the majority of students (75%) rated Vision Frame as highly effective in accelerating and simplifying the determination of the horizon line and vanishing points. No students provided negative feedback regarding this media. These findings indicated that the use of Vision Frame significantly enhanced students' understanding of perspective concepts, reduced technical errors, and increased their confidence in drawing. Therefore, Vision Frame was considered an innovative and effective learning medium worthy of integration into the art curriculum at the junior high school level, as demonstrated in the case study at SMPIT Darul Fikri Makassar.

Abstract

This study investigates the enduring impact of colonial legacies on Indonesia's national education system. The main objective is to analyze how structures, language policies, and bureaucratic frameworks inherited from the Dutch colonial era continue to shape educational access, quality, and equity today. Using a qualitative research approach, the study reviews secondary data, including academic articles and policy documents, combined with thematic analysis to identify key patterns and influences. The findings reveal that the dual-track curriculum system, separating academic and vocational education, perpetuates social segmentation, particularly disadvantaging students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Furthermore, the colonial use of Dutch as the primary language of instruction has created a longstanding preference for foreign languages, such as English, in formal education, which exacerbates learning inequalities between urban and rural areas. The study also highlights how the rigid, hierarchical educational bureaucracy inherited from the colonial period limits innovation and local adaptation in schools. Overall, the research concludes that addressing these challenges requires more than superficial curriculum revisions; it calls for deep systemic reforms that prioritize inclusivity, local relevance, and greater flexibility in educational management. By transforming these inherited structures, Indonesia can move toward a more equitable and high-quality national education system that better serves its diverse population.

Abstract

Massive environmental degradation, climate change, and other ecological crises demand responses that are not only technocratic but also transformative in terms of values and worldview. Islamic education with an ecotheology paradigm can be an instrument of social transformation towards a more sustainable and ecologically just civilization. Therefore, this study aims to underscore the growing urgency of incorporating ecotheology into Islamic education in the Anthropocene era. With a qualitative approach and literature review, this work reveals that ecotheology in Islamic education requires a holistic and integrated approach, from the philosophical to the practical level. The curriculum, learning methods, and the role of educators must be aligned to create a transformative learning experience. The existing challenges can be overcome through a comprehensive strategy and strong commitment from all stakeholders. Islamic education that integrates ecotheology will be able to produce a generation of Muslims who are not only individually pious but also have high ecological awareness and responsibility. They will become agents of change who can contribute to building a sustainable and ecologically just civilization.

Abstract

As a national policy, we introduced the zoning system to ensure equitable access to education and reduce the concentration of students in "favorite" schools. Despite efficient communication and sufficient administrative procedures, structural and social variables impede the policy's success. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the New Student Admission or PPDB zoning policy at public junior high schools. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach to explore the implementation process, focusing on four key variables based on Edward III’s policy implementation model: communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. This research was conducted at public junior high schools in Sukabumi City, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving education officials, school administrators, local policymakers, and community representatives. Triangulation techniques were employed to validate the findings. The results show that Sukabumi has implemented the PPDB zoning policy in accordance with regulatory guidelines, yet several challenges persist. The uneven distribution of public schools across districts has created disparities in access, with some areas experiencing oversubscription and others lacking adequate school options. Additionally, limited digital literacy among parents and unequal school facilities have affected public acceptance of the policy. Despite effective communication efforts and adequate administrative procedures, the success of the policy is hindered by structural and social factors. In conclusion, the effectiveness of the zoning-based admission policy in Sukabumi depends not only on regulatory compliance but also on regional capacity and community support.

Abstract

Low physical activity among higher students impacts those with less than optimal cardiorespiratory capacity. One important indicator of physical fitness is VO₂ max. This study aims to evaluate the impact of aerobic exercise on higher students. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group. The subjects of the study were 96 students from the Faculty of Sport Science and the Faculty of Public Health, Makassar State University, aged 19–22 years, who participated in an aerobic exercise program for eight weeks with a frequency of four times a week and a duration of 60 minutes per session. VO₂ max measurements were carried out using the Modified Cooper Test. The findings of the analysis revealed that the average VO₂ max increased from 32.1 ml/kg/minute to 38.7 ml/kg/minute (p < 0.001), representing a 20.5% increase. This study proves that aerobic exercise is an effective and applicable form of intervention to improve the cardiorespiratory fitness of higher students. Aerobic exercise programs should be incorporated into the campus health agenda to promote a sustainable, active, and healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Tennis is a sport that requires high endurance capacity, especially for adolescent athletes who are in their physical development phase. Interval training has been recognized as an effective method for improving cardiovascular endurance and sport-specific performance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of interval training in improving endurance in adolescent tennis players. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. The study involved 40 adolescent tennis players aged 14-17 years, divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=20) receiving interval training and a control group (n=20) receiving conventional training. The intervention was conducted for 8 weeks with a training frequency of 3 times per week. Endurance was measured using the multistage fitness test (beep test) and tennis-specific endurance tests. The results showed significant improvement in endurance capacity in the experimental group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The experimental group showed an average increase of 18.5% in VO2max, while the control group only showed 7.2% improvement. Tennis-specific endurance tests also demonstrated superior results in the interval training group. Conclusion: Interval training proves to be more effective than conventional training methods in improving the endurance capacity of adolescent tennis players. Abstract

Pencak Silat is a traditional Indonesian martial art that requires exceptional defensive skills, particularly in blocking techniques. Shadow fighting training has emerged as a potential method to enhance blocking speed and reaction time in athletes. This study aims to investigate the effect of shadow fighting training on blocking speed performance in Pencak Silat athletes. We conducted a quasi-experimental study with 30 Pencak Silat athletes, aged 18-25 years, dividing them into experimental (n=15) and control groups (n=15). The experimental group underwent 8 weeks of shadow fighting training (3 sessions per week, 60 minutes per session), while the control group continued regular training. Blocking speed was measured using reaction time tests and blocking movement analysis before and after the intervention. The experimental group showed significant improvement in blocking speed (p<0.05), with mean reaction time decreasing from 0.47±0.08 seconds to 0.32±0.06 seconds. The control group showed no significant changes (p>0.05). Post-intervention comparison between groups revealed significantly faster blocking speed in the experimental group (p<0.01). Conclusion: Shadow fighting training effectively improves blocking speed in Pencak Silat athletes and can be recommended as a supplementary training method for enhancing defensive performance.

Abstract

This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyse the mathematical reasoning abilities of junior high school students when solving plane geometry problems, specifically focussing on their camper type adversity quotient. The research subjects consist of two students who were selected based on the Adversity Response Profile (ARP) questionnaire scores, namely two camper subjects with moderate scores. Furthermore, the researcher gave mathematical reasoning test questions on the quadrilateral material and conducted interviews with each subject. The researcher checked the validity of the data by using source triangulation. The analysis of mathematical reasoning ability is based on three indicators: finding mathematical patterns to make generalisations, performing mathematical manipulations, and drawing conclusions while compiling evidence and providing reasons for the correctness of the solution. The results of this research showed camper-type students used inductive reasoning, which is good in determining mathematical patterns, but cannot make appropriate generalisations of the patterns that were found. In doing mathematical manipulation, there are camper-type students who use trial and error strategies in solving geometry plane problems. Camper-type students can draw conclusions from a geometry plane problem but have difficulties in gathering evidence and providing reasons for the correct problem-solving.
