Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Talking Stick learning model on the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in Natural Sciences (IPA) at the UPTD of State Elementary School 122345 Pematangsiantar. The method used is quantitative with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design involving 30 students as a sample. The research instrument is an essay question that has been validated by two validators using the Aiken's V formula, with high validity results in the aspects of content, construct, and language. Data on students' critical thinking skills were collected through pretests and posttests, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and N-Gain tests. The results showed a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills after the application of the Talking Stick model, with an average pretest score of 44.86 and a posttest score of 88.83. The average N-Gain score of 0.79 (high category) indicates the effectiveness of this learning model in improving critical thinking skills. The application of the Talking Stick model has also been shown to increase student engagement, motivation, and activity in learning. In conclusion, the Talking Stick learning model is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of fourth grade students and is recommended for wider application to support active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Picture and Picture learning model on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 134633 Tanjungbalai. The type of research used is quantitative research with an experimental method, using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research sample was fourth-grade students consisting of 7 male students and 13 female students. The data collection technique was carried out by a multiple-choice test on the material of Plant Reproduction, which was used as a pretest and posttest. Scores were given with a value of 1 for correct answers and 0 for incorrect answers. The test was given before and after treatment. The data analysis technique used a normality test and hypothesis test. The results of the t-test showed that the t-count value was 18.812, while the t-table was 1.729 with a significant level (2-tailed). Because the t-count (18.812) was greater than the t-table (1.729), it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the Picture and Picture learning model on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 134633 Tanjungbalai. Thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using vocabulary matching games in improving young learners’ vocabulary mastery. Conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Semarang, the study employed a quasi-experimental design involving two eighth-grade classes: one as the experimental group using vocabulary matching games, and the other as the control group using traditional methods. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to both groups to assess vocabulary development. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s vocabulary mastery, with the average score increasing from 62.85 to 78.62, while the control group improved from 52.65 to 65.41. An independent samples t-test showed a p-value of 0.020, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The results support the idea that game-based learning fosters active engagement, better retention, and enhanced motivation among students. This research further aligns with previous studies that emphasize the pedagogical benefits of interactive vocabulary instruction. In conclusion, vocabulary matching games proved to be an effective instructional strategy for enhancing vocabulary acquisition and should be considered as a valuable tool in language learning classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the experiences of teachers and early childhood in PAUD Hatuhuran, Kairatu District in learning through the Joyful Learning approach. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were obtained through interviews, participant observations, and reflective notes on teachers and students. The results showed that the Joyful Learning method—which combines games, nature exploration, and arts and culture—successfully increased children's active involvement, curiosity, and social, emotional, and cognitive development. Children appeared more enthusiastic and active during the learning process. However, teachers face challenges in managing dynamic classes, limited facilities, and minimal parental support. Teachers are required to be creative and adaptive in designing learning activities that are fun but still educational. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of teachers in creating meaningful learning experiences through a child-centered approach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the errors made by tenth-grade students of Central Lombok Senior High School in solving word problems on arithmetic sequences. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with 30 tenth-grade students in one of the high schools as research subjects. Data were obtained through written tests in the form of arithmetic sequence story problems and semi-structured interviews. Error analysis was conducted based on Newman's theory, including reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and encoding errors. The results showed that the most dominant errors occurred at the transformation stage (34%), where students had difficulty converting verbal problems into mathematical forms. In addition, process skill errors (28%) also often appeared because students did not correctly apply the arithmetic sequence formula. These findings provide implications that learning needs to be improved through a contextual approach and intensive word problem practice to improve students' conceptual and procedural understanding.

Abstract

Fine motor skills are an important aspect in early childhood development that needs to be optimally stimulated. This study aims to improve children's fine motor skills through paper quilling activities at the IT Cendekia Takengon Private Kindergarten. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 20 children, consisting of 10 boys and 10 girls. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and documentation, while data analysis used percentage formulas and qualitative descriptions. The results of the study showed a significant increase in children's fine motor skills. In the pre-action, the percentage of achievement was only 45%. After the intervention in cycle I, it increased to 64%, and in cycle II it reached 83%. This increase reflects that paper quilling activities are effective in training hand-eye coordination, paper rolling, cutting, and sticking skills, as well as children's ability to express creativity through artwork. Thus, paper quilling activities can be used as an alternative learning strategy to develop fine motor skills in early childhood in a fun and meaningful way.

Abstract

This study aims to describe prospective teachers' views on the use of social studies learning media that integrate elements of local wisdom. The background of this study is based on the urgency of presenting contextual learning to better suit students' social and cultural realities. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection methods in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The subjects in this study were students of the social studies education study program who attended the instructional media course. The findings indicate that the majority of prospective teachers understand the importance of local wisdom as a meaningful learning resource and are able to explore the potential of local culture to be part of the social studies learning material. They also demonstrated innovation in creating learning media that highlight folklore, traditional games, and the surrounding environment. However, there are still obstacles, such as limited resources and access to relevant information. The conclusion of this study confirms that the integration of local wisdom into social studies learning media plays a strategic role in encouraging active student involvement and strengthening cultural identity. However, its implementation requires institutional support in the form of training and the provision of contextual learning resources.
