Abstract

The rapid integration of AI tools like ChatGPT in education raises questions about their potential to enhance assessment methods. However, researchers have not fully explored teachers' attitudes toward adopting ChatGPT for educational assessment, especially regarding how gender, academic discipline, and years of experience influence their attitudes toward using these technologies. The study examined the effect of gender, academic discipline, and years of experience on teachers' attitudes toward using ChatGPT for educational assessment. The study employed a descriptive survey research design in administering an online survey to teachers (n = 102). Data collected were analyzed using linear regression. Results indicated that gender (β = -.536, p = .002) and academic discipline (β = .349, p = .014) significantly influenced attitudes, with male teachers and those in the Sciences showing more favourable attitudes toward ChatGPT. However, years of experience had no significant effect on attitude (β = .035, p = .616). Overall, the model was statistically significant (F(3, 98) = 6.450, p < 0.05), highlighting the importance of gender and discipline in shaping attitudes toward the use of ChatGPT for educational assessment. The study concluded that gender and academic discipline are key predictors. Other unexplored factors might influence teachers' attitudes toward adopting ChatGPT for educational assessment. Further research may consider exploring additional factors like institutional support, training, and perceived usefulness of AI tools to gain a comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

This article underscored the economic diplomacy as a pillar of bilateral engagement between Kenya and Uganda from 1962-2024. This is due to the fact that, since the Kenya’s attainment of independence in 1963, and Uganda in 1962, a relationship that is not limited to cooperation, competition and mutual dependency has been going on. This article reviewed related literature and gaps identified. It adopted historical research design which enabled the study to relate the past events with the current. Administrative directors, diplomats, immigration agents, security guards, traders, and certain homeowners with land near the border were among the groups targeted. Since the study was qualitative in nature, it adopted purposive and snowballing techniques. The research found out that; both countries have utilized economic and peace diplomacy to strengthen ties, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development and cross-border trade. Notably, Uganda is Kenya's second-largest export destination, accounting for 9.5% of Kenya's total exports in 2023. Conversely, Kenya is a significant export partner for Uganda, representing 16.88% of Uganda's total exports. It also emerged that; In light of the fact that Uganda is a landlocked country and Kenya is dependent on the Ugandan market for the export of its produce, the diplomatic relations between Kenya and Uganda are of great significance. Additionally, the research recommends that; ultimately, a comprehensive approach that combines empirical data and interpretive insights is crucial for maximizing the benefits of economic diplomacy.

Abstract

This research examines ethics and responsibility in the practice of political demagogy with the aim of understanding the conceptual and practical impact of this phenomenon. Political demagogy is defined as a practice in which leaders use manipulative rhetoric to influence the masses in favour of specific political interests. This research found that demagogy is characterised by emotional manipulation, distortion of facts, and populist rhetoric that exacerbates the polarisation of society. From an ethical perspective, demagogy violates the principles of honesty and transparency and exploits public fear and discontent, which can undermine trust in democratic institutions and increase social instability. The responsibility of political leaders is crucial in this context. Leaders are expected to maintain integrity, put the public interest first, and encourage constructive dialogue, as well as protect democratic institutions from the damage caused by demagogy. The research also identifies several practical steps needed, including improved political education and media literacy, as well as strengthened regulation against disinformation. Overall, this research emphasises the importance of a deep understanding of ethics and responsibility in politics to prevent the misuse of demagogy and ensure the health of democracy. With a comprehensive approach, society can be protected from the negative impacts of demagogy, and democracy can be better sustained.

Abstract

This study is motivated by challenges in managing teacher competence to improve the quality of learning at Majelis Taklim Konversi Diniyah (MTKD). These challenges are evident in the suboptimal implementation of ensuring teachers’ mastery of pedagogical competence, which impacts graduate quality and the effectiveness of the learning process. The purpose of this research is to examine, interpret, and describe the planning, organizing, implementation, supervision, emerging issues, and solutions in managing teacher competence to enhance learning quality. The study adopts a qualitative approach and a case study method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings of the study demonstrate a positive impact of teacher competence management on improving the quality of learning at MTKD. Planning is conducted collaboratively and documented in materials aligned with the learning standards of MTKD, tailored to the institution's managerial needs. Organizing is systematically structured into MTKD programs, covering the establishment of study groups (rombel), the management of participants (jamaah), and detailed budgeting. Implementation encompasses capacity building for MTKD leaders, curriculum application, and professional training and mentoring. Evaluation is carried out through direct and indirect supervision. No significant issues were identified; however, technical problems related to teaching staff resources, budgeting, and the alignment of teacher competence management with the specific situational needs of MTKD were noted. Recommendations include enhancing teacher competence, adjusting the curriculum to meet the needs of MTKD, and utilizing technology for guidance, monitoring, and professional training.

Abstract

This study examines the issue of low reading interest among students, which can negatively affect their literacy skills and behavior. If left unaddressed, this issue could lead to a generation with poor literacy abilities and a lack of moderate attitudes. The purpose of this research is to analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation processes, as well as the impact of the Literacy-Based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in the subject of Islamic Education (PAI) and Character Education on shaping students' moderate attitudes. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate several key points: (1) The planning process of PjBL in Islamic Education begins with setting objectives aligned with local contexts and religious values, analyzing student characteristics, adapting teaching strategies, preparing worksheets, and designing evaluation tools. (2) The implementation of PjBL in three junior high schools in Bandung involves teachers assigning project tasks, planning project steps, scheduling, and providing continuous monitoring and guidance throughout the project. (3) The evaluation of PjBL includes assessing students' ability to manage projects, the relevance of the projects to the local context, and the authenticity of the final products, which reflect the success of the PjBL implementation. (4) The literacy-based PjBL model demonstrates a significant impact on fostering students' moderate attitudes, particularly in terms of tolerance, national commitment, anti-violence, and accommodation of local culture, with varied results across the three schools. This study concludes that the Literacy-Based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in Islamic Education (PAI) and Character Education effectively supports the development of moderate attitudes in religious practices among students at SMPN 18 Bandung

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see the impact of Gross Domestic Product, Military Expenditure on Foreign Direct Investment in ASEAN countries. The results of this study show that GDP has a negative influence on foreign investment and the increase or decrease of Milex significantly affects foreign direct investment according to the political stability in each country. In some countries, it is said that increasing Milex does not necessarily make a country safer. An increase in Milex can occur when conflicts in a country or region increase and as a result investor confidence decreases. Whereas in other countries with higher political stability, descriptive statistics of military spending are used in this study and the data used in this study are from SIPRI, Word Bank, and data from the financial statements of ASEAN countries. Before the analysis, the constant value is, meaning that if the independent variable Milex is equal to zero, then the dependent variable (Foreign Investment) will have a value of 10.58533. The regression coefficient value of GDP (X1) is -0.180875 and Milex (X2) is 0.541519 and has a positive sign which means that if Milex increases by 1 unit, the dependent variable, namely Foreign Direct Investment, will also increase by 0.180875 and vice versa. it shows that the Jarque-Bera value is 67.16348 with a probability of 0.00000. The output result of the Adjusted R-Square value is 0.872961, or 87.29%.

Abstract

Symbolism is one of the significant literary approaches through which various literary, ideological, and scientific texts are analyzed using its concepts. In this study, the symbolic verses of the Holy Quran are interpreted based on the foundational principles of this approach. The primary aim of this work is to determine the extent of symbolism in the Quranic verses and to understand the various viewpoints regarding the "cognitive" and non-"cognitive" nature of the Quranic language. To achieve this goal, a "descriptive-analytical" method has been employed. The findings of this study indicate that the language of the Quran is generally referential and cognitive, meaning there is a meaningful and clear relationship between the signifier and the signified in the concepts of the Quran. In this regard, the "non-cognitive" perspective of the Quranic language, proposed by some thinkers, is not valid, as the language of this divine text is based on common usage and is not limited to any specific group or time. Furthermore, many verses previously considered "symbolic" in earlier studies are not symbols but perceptual metaphors. However, the representation of a limited number of symbols (while retaining their primary meanings) in some Quranic verses cannot be denied. Therefore, these verses can be analyzed and interpreted based on the essential principles of symbolism, such as the originality of imagination, the authenticity of emotions, elevated literary language, and phonetic arrangement.

Abstract

This study uses a normative legal research method. Normative legal research is examining law from an internal perspective with the object of research being legal norms. This study aims to determine the Urgency of Imposing the Death Penalty on Narcotics Dealers Reviewed from a Human Rights Perspective. Discussion Results: The death penalty is one of the main punishments regulated in Article 10 of the Criminal Code. Where, the death penalty is carried out by shooting the perpetrator dead as regulated in the law. The death penalty is a form of accountability for unlawful acts and this punishment is the highest punishment of all existing punishments and is regulated in the Criminal Code. The death penalty for drug dealers is something that must be done and expedited, because the circulation of narcotics is currently increasingly rampant and the impacts it causes greatly affect the lives of the nation's next generation, as well as security and order in the nation and state today and in the future. The consideration to impose the death penalty on drug dealers is more directed towards providing a deterrent effect on the perpetrators as well as law enforcement to create a sense of justice in society. The death penalty imposed under Indonesian law still has pros and cons in some circles of society and legal observers. That the death penalty is a violation of the Human Rights to life, because basically death belongs only to God Almighty. The death penalty when associated with the Human Rights Law, then clearly violates what is formulated in the Human Rights Law Articles 4 and 9. However, in contrast to what is stated in Articles 70 and 73, that there are restrictions set by law as long as the freedom to live does not violate the provisions set by law, such as violating public order, morality, morals, or the interests of the nation. While the criminal acts committed by drug dealers have clearly violated the provisions in question, the death penalty is actually a punishment that clearly does not violate the Human Rights Law.

Abstract

The method used in this article's research is normative legal research, namely research into problems by looking at the sources of applicable regulations relating to the title.Qualifications for Criminal Acts of Drug Abuse with Relatively Small Amounts of Narcotics Evidence. The Supreme Court as the Highest Judicial Institution has given Authority to the Panel of Judges who examine and try Narcotics cases to escape the minimum limit provisions of Article 111 or Article 112 of Law No. 35 of 2009 if indeed based on the legal facts revealed in the trial it is proven to violate the provisions of Article 127 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.; then in accordance with the provisionsArticle 127 of the Narcotics Law stipulates that: "Any person who abuses: a. Class I narcotics for themselves shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) years;", therefore the Panel of Judges in deciding cases related to narcotics abuse, even though the public prosecutor does not charge Article 127 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, the Defendant's actions can be categorized as Class I narcotics abuse for themselves, so in other words the judge has the authority to impose a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) years.
