Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence, learning motivation, and discipline in early childhood at Ikhwanus Shafa Kindergarten. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design to determine the extent to which emotional intelligence and learning motivation affect children's discipline in an early childhood education environment. The research sample consisted of 25 children aged 5-6 years enrolled in Ikhwanus Shafa Kindergarten, with data collection through observation, questionnaires, and structured interviews with teachers and parents. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson correlation statistical techniques to measure the relationship between the variables studied. The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and learning motivation with children's discipline. High emotional intelligence in children contributes to increased learning motivation, which in turn supports the achievement of better discipline. These findings indicate the importance of developing emotional intelligence and learning motivation as determining factors in the formation of disciplinary behaviour in early childhood. The implication of this study is the need for an integrated emotional intelligence development program in the early childhood education curriculum to improve the quality of education and children's character.

Abstract

The comparative analysis of children's social skills between Indonesia and other countries remains limited due to the scarcity of standardized tools in different countries. This study evaluates the association of cross-country differences, age, and gender with children's social skills in Indonesian and Japanese by using the exact measurement: Social Skill Scale-24, which consists of 3 sub-scales (assertion, self-control, cooperation) and 24 items. The data was collected in Indonesia from nine kindergartens in B City, West Java. The Japanese data was obtained from the Child Cohort Study (CCC), collected in 2022. Finally, there were 1436 participants, with 1157 participants from Japan and 279 from Indonesia. Our findings indicate that country difference is significantly associated with children's social skills (p<0.05). Indonesian children demonstrated stronger cooperation skills, whereas Japanese children excelled in assertion, self-control, and the overall SSS score. In addition, children's age and gender were significantly associated with preschoolers' social skills in both samples. Furthermore, all items in SSS-24 achieved satisfactory CFA scores (>0.5), and the omega coefficients for the total scores above 0.9 in Indonesia and Japan imply this questionnaire is valid and reliable. These findings suggest that best practices from each country can be adapted to local cultural contexts to improve children's social skills.

Abstract

The Generation Alpha era marked by the dominance of digital technology has had a significant impact on the socio-emotional development of early childhood. Excessive exposure to technology often reduces children's direct social interactions, thus inhibiting their ability to develop social and emotional skills. This study aims to explore the concept of Kampung Dolanan as an alternative to revitalize positive behavior in early childhood through traditional games. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, the study was conducted in Metro City, Lampung. Data were obtained through participatory observation, interviews with parents, educators, and facilitators, and document analysis. The results of the study indicate that Kampung Dolanan is able to support children's socio-emotional development by improving cooperation skills, empathy, emotional management, and self-confidence. Traditional games that are implemented in a structured manner not only preserve local culture but also provide space for children to learn social values in a supportive environment. The active role of parents, educators, the community, and local government is very important in the successful implementation of the Kampung Dolanan concept. This study recommends Kampung Dolanan as an innovative socio-emotional development model to support the growth and development of early childhood in the digital era.

Abstract

Multicultural learning is one of the strategic approaches in supporting early childhood social development, especially in an environment rich in cultural diversity such as in RA Nurul Islam Singkawang. The need to integrate multicultural values in learning in early childhood education institutions is relevant because of the importance of building empathy, tolerance, and social skills from an early age. However, in-depth studies related to the application of innovative approaches based on multicultural education to the development of social attitudes and behavior of early childhood are still limited. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach, involving teachers and principals as the main data sources, to identify the effect of the multicultural approach at RA Nurul Islam Singkawang. The results showed that this approach improved children's empathy and tolerance, encouraged more inclusive social interactions, and increased confidence in cross-cultural interactions. In addition, children also showed initiative in conflict resolution and mastery of social skills, such as understanding different perspectives and establishing harmonious relationships. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating multicultural values in the early childhood education curriculum to support better character building and social skills.

Abstract

SEMAGI is a breakfast habituation program given to early childhood as an effort to provide children with an understanding of the importance of breakfast in the morning to improve concentration in learning at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the SEMAGI program habituation on learning concentration in early childhood at SPS Kamboja 4 School, Sukowono District, Jember Regency. This study used a pre-experimental research approach with one group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis used in this study used t-test analysis to determine the impact of breakfast habituation on learning concentration in early childhood as seen from the significance of the difference in learning concentration before and after being given the SEMAGI program. The pre-test results showed that out of 25 samples, 16 (64.0%) respondents had poor learning concentration and 9 (36.0%) respondents had good learning concentration, while in the post-test, 7 children (28%) still had poor learning concentration, while 18 children (72%) had good concentration. The results of the t-test analysis showed a significant difference in learning concentration before and after the SEMAGI program with a t value of 2.736 and a p value of 0.012. These results show a significant number because the p value <significance level (α) = 5% (0.05). Based on these results, it can be said that the SEMAGI program has a positive impact on learning concentration in early childhood at SPS Kamboja 4 School, Sukowono District, Jember Regency. Based on the research that has been conducted, students are accustomed to having breakfast to support children in concentrating when receiving learning at school.
